Re: DS price drop AKA psp doom3d
In opposing news, PSP's long awaited North American firmware upgrade is slated for Monday, August 15th. Included in this upgrade is the coveted web brower. This announcment leaves Nintendo with very little room left to squirm their way out of injecting internet into the veins of the DS unit. If Nintendo doesn't act quickly, I fear their handheld gaming will be d00m3d 4 3v3R!!!

Re: DS price drop AKA psp doom3d
Internet browsing on anything small (cell phones, PSP/DS, PDA like things, etc..) is never gonna get as popular unless they make a foldable keyboard that feels like the real deal and not something tacked on
But a DS price drop would be awesome :D |
Re: DS price drop AKA psp doom3d
Then maybe more of my friends can buy Animal Crossing DS! And I can chop their trees down!
I'm liking the prospects! |
Re: DS price drop AKA psp doom3d
does the PSP browser do streaming video/music?
the "unofficial" browser I have doesn't even store cookies.... I can't post on GT because of it. Oh well, there are plenty of other sites to visit, that dont' need any of that stuff. |
Re: DS price drop AKA psp doom3d
No, it doesn't stream anything. The only videos it plays now are MP4s and the music can only be MP3's or .wavs.

Re: DS price drop AKA psp doom3d
What I like about spending the money for the PSP is that it'll constantly add support for new things in firmware updates. Because of this fact I dont see a price drop for PSP in the near future. The PSP is going to be a handheld that is used for practically everything...

Re: DS price drop AKA psp doom3d
So where does one go about finding MP4 videos. Are people just converting videos to MP4 with their computers?

P.S. There's absolutely no reason the DS can't have firmware updates as well. It's just that Nintendo has apparently decided not to try to compete with iPod Video. |
Re: DS price drop AKA psp doom3d
thats a rather closed minded statment of it xantar, one would expect everyone to use every feature, nor like every feature,
As a portable game player, works great. As a portable video player, works well, i'd like it to support a lot more formats and have an easier system to use, but perhaps sometime later on, as far as putting videos on and watching em, i see no problems with it. plays audio great, it doesnt make a good portable audio player as its much bigger then say an ipod, but it wasnt made soley for that, and i see no problems in the way it plays music, they sound great out of it. as a portable internet browser, works just as well as my pocket PC. Just because you may not use em, doesnt mean it sucks at doing them. Room for improvment, yes, but still does it fine. As for the DS and firmware updates, i had read once that the way the DS was made it was incapabile of updating its firmware, because it has no way of running the firmware update to install it on itself. but that was before release and it coulda been changed or maybe was just an assumption. |

and how many of PSP's features have you used recently? |
Re: DS price drop AKA psp doom3d
I've seen the PSP's features. I don't care for watching movies on a tiny screen low resolution screen no matter how bright it is (there are DVD players the same size that work much better) nor for listening to music with such small storage space (there's the iPod) nor for browsing the internet without actually being able to point and click something.
Yeah, it all comes in one device, but I don't want to watch movies unless I'm actually going on some long trip where I expect to watch movies. Then I'll just carry a DVD player along. And I've never been so desperate for music that I would absolutely have to carry a PSP along with me for that purpose. And if I want to browse the internet and for some reason have no access to work, home or a computer store, I might as well just use my cell phone which also has a sucky browser but which I'm going to be carrying around with me at all times anyway. The PSP's multimedia capabilities are nice bonuses. I won't deny that. But people don't buy the thing for those features. They buy it for the games. And if people are starting to say that the PSP is a better movie player than game player, Sony is going to have problems. |
Re: DS price drop AKA psp doom3d
I wont get a PSP for the videos because I cant justify spending $20-$25 for a UMD of a movie that might contain an extra or 2 when I can get the same full DVD for $5 cheaper sometimes and be compatible with more then one thing but thats just me.
