Hacking the handhelds :)

Progress is much underway now. as some seen in that calculator program for DS, and the internet browser hidden in wipeout on PSP much bigger break throughs have now been made.

PSP >

- PSP UMD format cracked; game ISOs appear
http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000713042341/

- ontop of that, they've gotten the first home made code to boot up and run on PSP. :) emulators are going to appear sooner then expected. some saying within the next couple months.

This also greatly helps out the work on Linux for PSP.

DS>

- Linux kernel booted on Nintendo DS
http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000883042510/

Quote:

A breakthrough in the DS Linux project: developers have gotten the kernel booted on the Nintendo DS as well as a simple sash shell and some text games; input to the shell is done with the D-pad. The code is booted via modified firmware that should work with the PassMe, FlashMe and WifiMe boot methods, although not with the wireless multiboot method.
Linux with the touch screen would be cool. wonder what they'd do with the other screen, hmm.

Score!

All aboard the pirated train! Next stop, the town of free movies and games! Woo, woo!

lol

honestly i could care less about pirating games. on PSP its just not pratical, no way to burn something onto one of thoes dics, and memory cards would cost too much for each game individually, and unable to fit more then 1 on a memory stick you'd have to transfer one on and off at a time. I just want the old emulators.

Linux is free anyway, so i see nothing wrong with them putting thoes on the handhelds. :)

As soon as the NES and SNES emulator is released I'm jumping on with Chrono Trigger and Punch Out!

Fair enough, so I can't sell you the pirated games. But don't tell me for a second that you aren't exploding in your pants at the thought of having all your favorite blockbuster movies on your PSP for ABSOLUTLEY FREE! Just imagine watching Season 1 of Lost or 24 while you're on the airplane to your annual Caribbean cruise. Just admit it, you're sold.

:hmm: but um... you could do that since day one. you could always put whatever movie and video files on and watch it on the psp. How does any of this effect that?

Of course thats only the first working build of it, they still gotta get sound working, and im sure they plan on making the picture take up the full screen. but it is WORKING.

for now only works on Jap version 1.0 still gotta wait a bit longer for them to crack the 1.5 Jap and NA ones.

I really want a PSP. I could play all those GBA games for free...

But I keep spending my money on stuff so I can't ever save up enough to buy one. :(

I'm satisfied with the progress, keep up the good work. I hope it can download a TV tuner so we can watch TV and cable stations for free.

Would you like to be able to watch free TV on your PSP?

I also want video conferencing software. If the PSP is going to succeed, these desires will need to be met, either through Sony or Hackers. The video conferencing will need to be compatible with Apple's state of the art iSight web camera.
