That would be great for gaming, downloads, and web browsing. We live in an exciting age. my friends.

i would first like them to release the diamond CPUs first, then maybe consider the optical ones...

So... Frozen light? Like, is it like ice, only...light? I mean, is it a physical object made out of light? If so... And if its not super fragile... You could, like, make a sword out of it... And call it a lightsaber..

Anyway, that was my random thought of the day...

lightsabers ae made from laser beams :)

Well, duh. I just meant that they could call it a lightsaber since it would be a saber made of light. I didn't say the actual sword would be like the Star Wars weapon, just the name....

well, the name is copywrited...so therefore, you would need to call it a light-saber...or something.. :p

Re: Frozen Light

I think that is will be a long time off before this is ever put into use.

Bose-Einstein condensates are something that form at approximately .1 degrees above absolute zero. Right it takes massive laser cooling and other methods that I don't even know about to keep the atoms that cool. The light is stopped inside of it because the atoms have practically no movement and so the light photons get trapped with them.

It's very fascinating stuff though. It will be cool when they find easier ways to maintain it. I read about this phase of matter a while ago. The ions get so slowed down that sometimes they all settle in the same energy level, which forces them to stack up kind of weirdly.

more info about this phase of matter can be found at http://www.fortunecity.com/emachines/e11/86/bose.html

Very cool, I think your physics and chemistry teachers will love this. :D

I remember reading this somewhere else. Very interesting and exciting.

Edit: I remember now. "Somewhere else" is actually "here". How stupid I've become...

That just sounds like it would destroy the competition as soon as it comes out...
