No wonder Nintendo is secretive

Microsoft and sony are damn theives....

first microsoft steals nintendo's handle... now sony steals microsofts complete online plan

here's microsofts plan: http://www.gametavern.net/forums/showthread.php?t=11119

The Marketplace enables players to browse subjects by game and genre among other methods and gives them the option to acquire episodic content, new game levels, maps, weapons, vehicles, vehicle parts, character skins, and new community-created content. Micro-transactions work in coordination with the Marketplace. Here, you'll be able to buy small-ticket online items (like the aforementioned list) enabling developers and the gaming community to charge for content they create and publish on Marketplace. This ought to be interesting, considering people generally don't want to pay for these kinds of items. Custom Playlists eliminate the need for developers to support custom music in games. With Xenon, all games will support custom soundtracks via the operating system. All of these features are operational the chip level; they're all built into Xenon, so developers can focus more on creative development.

But Sony does plan to build an infrastructure around a standard protocol that developers can use and plug into their games, help developers with billing, and offer mini-transactions that mimic the iTunes model -- gamers will be able to purchase downloadable content, user-created content (GT4 experts could sell souped-up cars to newbies), episodic content, access to persistent worlds, and other entertainment content. No launch details or specifics were given for this new PS2 online model, but it is under development. To help with the storage of this content, Sony will also be releasing a larger-format memory card - again, no details there either. Hirai sums it up: "We must evolve the experience of online gaming. Non-revenue-generating online gameplay is the norm, but not for long."

this is an exact copy of microsofts plan with microsoft having custom downloadable music (and rumored xpod) online market place where users can sell user made stuff, blah blah blah...

What exactly are you complaining about? Both Sony and Microsoft's next-gen consoles will have a great online plan, and there's a problem with this?

Practices like this aren't exclusive to the video game industry unfortunatley. It happens everywhere in business. Since you can't stop it, the only way to combat it is to offer something better. It actually forces companies to make great products, deals, etc. If they don't, they'll go under.

The worst cases are when a company doesn't even change a name that much. Like Microsoft's rumored XPod. I mean, if you're going to rip something, at least try not to make it blatantly obvious. It matters not, iPod will devour XPod.

Companies steal products all the time. I though people got over that fact ages ago.

You don't get over it, it's wrong. And getting desensitized to it simply because it happens all the time is even more wrong.

That picture was way out of line.

its not worng, thats how it works, new ideas become standard, and more new ideas are made after that. otherwise we'd never get anything better because there would be no reason to improve apon stuff if only one company could use it.

Competition is good, emulation is stagnating.

well i'd hate to be playin games today if no ideas where ever copied and used by others and improved apon, that would be a very sad day indeed.

Re: No wonder Nintendo is secretive

Right. I'd just like to point out that Microsoft and Sony went online already, and Nintendo hasn't.

And was my picture really that all uncalled for?

I got just about as much out of this thread as if someone just made a post that said,

"LOOK SONY AND MICROSOFT ARE DOING THINGS SIMILAR TO THEIR COMPETITION OMG!!!!WTFWHYWOULDTHEYDOTHATOMG>AALKJGD:SKJGD:K"

well i guess no console should really go online, because then they'd all be copying computers, and thats just wrong

That's right. How I could I forget computers. I'm so stupid.

I guess Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony all need to pay benefits to the people that brought us the Internet, some 32 years ago.

Re: No wonder Nintendo is secretive

I never said that at all, I think you're exaggerating my posts by a fair bit. We don't need to get in a big fight about intellectual property rights. We all know that a good idea will be copied, and that without that - any industry could become stagnant. What I am trying to iterate is the fact that there is a difference from flat out copying somebody and taking an idea and improving it.

You can take something and make it your own, where an individual draws the line is personal. I'm not going to get into an arguement about where the line really is.

Crash's post had the simple intention of making Nintendo's reasons for secrecy a bit more visible. Granted, he didn't have the best examples, but the meaning for the post is still there; and thanks to both of you, has been underlined and made bold.

So somehow, despite some of the substance lacking in the post in the first place, it's gone exactly where it needed to go.

Re: No wonder Nintendo is secretive

well if your think crashes original post was to say why nintendo is secretive, then your kidding yourself. you need to dig deeper and look at his posts to see what his intentions really are.
