MSN on leet speak

http://tech.msn.com/guides/1064107.armx

somewhat amusing...

Quote:

While it has many nicknames, information-age slang is commonly referred to as leetspeek, or leet for short. Leet (a vernacular form of "elite") is a specific type of computer slang where a user replaces regular letters with other keyboard characters to form words phonetically—creating the digital equivalent of pig Latin with a twist of hieroglyphics.

Ahhhh.....another news quote that illustrates the point made on Somethingawful a few days ago.

It's so sad how the news lags behind, and how they continue to talk about things that most people on the internet want to go away. Oh well.

Don't mind it so much. What annoys the hell out of me is AOL speach. Such as sticking "lol" after everything, even if it isn't funny. Also hate "omg", "kewl", replacing 'you' with "u" and other such things. Most especially the overuse of "lol" though. I get angry just looking at it after I type it. Oh, and XD. If someone still sticks that whacked out smilie face at the end of a sentence I shall slaughter their first born and drown their dog and/or cat.

In my observations, "leet" speak is only used in a joking manner or to make fun of someone. I don't think anyone actually uses it. Except for the most common terms like "lol", etc...

Like here for example, we only use 'leet speak' to portray and make fun of a hypothetical gamer.
