Xbox vs Gamecube (IGN's stats so far)

The scores speak for themselves:

9.0 and Higher
Xbox: 9 (18%)
Gamecube: 5 (15%)

8.0-8.9
Xbox: 19 (28%)
Gamecube: 8 (24%)

7.0-7.9
Xbox: 12 (24%)
Gamecube: 5 (15%)

6.0-6.9
Xbox: 6 (12%)
Gamecube: 6 (18%)

5.0-5.9
Xbox: 3 (6%)
Gamecube: 5 (15%)

4.9 and below
Xbox: 2 (4%)
Gamecube: 3 (9%)

Total Games Reviewed
Xbox:49
Gamecube: 32

(Note, precents are not exact)

I'm glad Nintendo fans stopped saying quality over quantity... because right now Gamecube has neither.

And have you ever considerd that these scores do not matter? If you want the most accurate and unbiased opinions, it's EDGE magazine you need, not IGN.

(Idiot then turns his back to BigJustinW and proceeds to run, before BigJustinW finds a sharp instrument to throw at Idiot, because Idiot, as his name implies, is an idiot.)

And then I go to Gamespot and almost every Xbox game is under 6.0. I don't go by online reviewers anymore...at least not their scores.

Gamer 03-12-2002 05:30 PM

I dont go, to often, by online reviewers either anymore, they are usually alot more generous with their scores toward a certain system.

Heyyoudvd 03-12-2002 10:39 PM

I really don't care what IGN says. They're so pro-Xbox, it's ridiculous.

They gave 9.0+ to DOA3, JSRF, Raw, and Wreckless. That automatically shows how moronic they are. These games are all average.

Also, SSX Tricky on Xbox got 9, while the Gamecube version got only 7.9. That's more than a full point difference, even thought eh games are nearly identical!

I would actually bet that GameSpot still gave more high scores to Xbox games than to GameCube games. Never mind that they gave DOA3 a 7.9 or somthing like that. They have also given Xbox games higher scores than IGN did. Contrary to what some people think, I don't believe either site is really all that biased.

So let's make this simple. Does Xbox have more games right now than GameCube does? Yes. That's just objective truth.

Does Xbox have more high quality games than GameCube? I think probably so (though admittedly I don't own either console. But I've been reading what reviewers say, not just their scores).

I would caution people against drawing any conclusions from this. Both consoles still aren't very old, and their current lineup of games isn't really indicative of how they are going to do in years to come. If the first few months really meant anything, the N64 would have been the second greatest console ever.

Heyyoudvd 03-13-2002 08:48 AM

In the first few months, all N64 had was Mario 64, Pilotwings, Mario Kart 64, Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey, and a few more.

Later on, it became great, with game like GE, PD, Zelda Oot, Zelda MM, Paper Mario, Conker, Bajo Kazooie/Tooie etc...

Joeiss 03-13-2002 10:03 AM

Meh. I do not think that anyone of here has played all the games that IGN reviewed, so we shouldn't just rely on other people's opinions. But, I think that online sites such as IGN and Gamespot are really good for giving a ball park figure on what they game is like. Think about it, it a gameis over 7 at a review site, you might as well try it out if the game looks interesting. And hell, even if games get under 5 and still look interesting to you, might as well give it a rent.

I basically agree with what you said...

As for the other posts...

Nintendo fans never seem to suprise me. About a year ago, when IGN was giving Ps2 bad scores, and Gamespot was giving Ps2 decent scores, nobody here paid any attentiod to Gamespot... AND when IGN was giving N64 good scores, but EGM, Next-Gen, and Gamespot were holding back, IGN was getting a lot more respect in the forums...

Maybe these scores show nothing.... then again, maybe these scores show everything....

Same... it seems like nowadays it seems like people think that if you disagree with reviews, then the site is biased... it's just an opinion! If the guy didn't like the game he didn't like the game...

Not to mention like recently in one of the gamespotting articles on gamespot, there was this thing about how many people on Xbox forums said that they seem to have something against Xbox or something... and they compared the average reviews from various games to their scores, and their scores were usually very close to the average score and sometimes a little higher... of course sometimes it was a little lower, but still it was pretty close...

I don't get why so many people consider gamespot and stuff biased

Anyways... Comparing IGN's reviews aren't really fair... the IGN guys have even said that before, I think... or at least other sites have... different people, different opinions, some people are tougher on scores, some people are a bit too generous, etc etc...

But right now I wouldn't find it surprising if Xbox did have more good games than NGC since it has more games overall... And like with PS2 or PSX, sure you get more crap games, but with more developers and stuff, you usually also get more good games... Unless you ONLY have those little crappy developers, which doesn't happen ;)

Same thing goes for NGC... When it comes to any form of entertainment... videogames, movies, TV, etc, a majority of them are crap... So with NGC, they have a fairly small selection of games, and there are only a few really good games, but there's less crap to dig through...

With Xbox you have more games overall, more good games, and more crap to dig through...

I personally don't mind having a ton of crap games on a system... just don't buy them... if it sucks, don't buy it, if the show is boring or stupid, don't watch it, if the movie looks retarded, don't see it... Sure sometimes things can be deceiving and look bad and end up good or look good or end up bad, but that's what reviews are for... not to base your decisions 100% on, but if you think a game looks good and gets great reviews, buy it... if it looks bad and gets bad reviews, don't buy it... and if it looks good and gets bad reviews or looks bad and gets good reviews, you might wanna give it a rent or something...

yep...

*looks at scores again*

GCN has more games total under 7.0, Xbox has more games total over 7.0

maybe the scores show nothing, or maybe they show everything...

Maybe they show that the Xbox guys are rating their games too high... or NGC guys rating their games too low (although I doubt that ;) )...

Maybe it shows that the people have different standards...

Or maybe it shows that Xbox truly has THAT many more good games than NGC...

Maybe it shows a lot of different things ;)

Maybe because Gamecube's version has 7 Buttons, and it's cut back on half or the tricks, and maybe because it's gameplay scheme is all around different from the Ps2 version...

In my personal opinion, if I didn't own a Ps2, there would be a lot more games I'd be buying on Xbox than GCN.... hell, even though I do own a Ps2 I'd buy more games on Xbox...
