Nintendo and Sony to use same memory chips?

Quote:

Japanese DRAM producer Elpida are set to supply chips for the PlayStation 3 and maybe even Nintendo's next-gen console.

Elpida president Yukio Sakamoto told Reuters that Sony plans to use 512MB XDR DRAM, with Rambus' interface technology, in the PS3. He added that both Toshiba and Samsung will also produce DRAM chips for the console. Sakamoto revealed that Elpida is negotiating with Nintendo to produce DRAM chips for its next-generation console, code-named Revolution.

One of the largest chipmakers in the world, Elpida is building a new factory in Hiroshima that will produce 300mm wafers. The new operation is crucial for the company, because it's currently operating at 100 percent capacity. The plant will open in the second half of 2005, and Elpida may establish another Hiroshima factory in the next few years.

This isn't good news. The company might take sides with one of the gaming companies and give the other gaming company memory chips of lesser quality or power. We all need to keep a cautious eye as the next system specifications are released. I sense deceit and lies in the future.

As long as it doesnt use the exact same chip, Im OK with it...

Im sure they have 2 different dev. teams that cant have any communication with each other IF this is true...

Well Elpida is already contracted with Sony on this memory chip deal, according to the article, and then the article says that Elpida is negotiating with Nintendo... so things aren't set in stone with Nintendo on these memory chips.

Ati is making a video chipset for Revolution and Xbox 2 but they are gonna be 2 different things.

Memory isn't as big a deal as Video Card/Chipset. Alot of companies use the same or similar memory. Good news for the maker, thats all

I doubt seriously that Elpida will take sides. In reality, the best possible senario for Elpida is that both consoles do well.

I thought Sony was making their own Graphics card/chipset? I dont remember news of Ati working with Sony also. Only heard abuot Nintendo/MS partnering with them.

I could've sworn Nvidia was gonna be with Sony or something similar.

Well we all know it's either one Nvidia or ATI... cuz they are the biggest video card manufacturers... but I could've sworn that Sony announced ATI. But not bad if Nvidia is doing it.
