No, you are not dreaming, Final Fantasy is BACK on a Nintendo Console -- actually 2 Nintendo consoles -- GBA and Nintendo GameCube! The new came from Nikkei's (Japanese official gaming source) website:

OSAKA (Nikkei)--Nintendo Co. (7974) has agreed to resume procuring the popular "Final Fantasy" video game software for its game consoles from Square Co. (9620) after a five-year hiatus, The Nihon Keizai Shimbun learned Friday.

The big news in this is not only is Square coming back, but the details -- Hiroshi Yamauchi himself is funding Square's return, by virtue of Fund Q, the fund set aside to help spark game development on GameCube.

The deal calls on the Square affiliate to produce software allowing users of two Nintendo consoles -- the GameCube and Game Boy Advance -- to play together by the end of the year.

Go ahead, clean the crap off your pants, then come back.. ;) Yes -- TOGETHER.

So, GameCubers and GBAers alike have something to look foward too playing Final Fantasy on NGC and GBA. Keep in mind that this HAS, I repeat HAS been confirmed officially by NCL.

Is square giving full-fledged support to Gamecube? Like just like PS2? If so, this is great news for Gamecube owners!

WHAT will be out be the end of the year?

Final Fantasy X?

This was already posted at PGC. I posted the link to that story in Jin's topic.

But nobody read it. I'm so ignored! :( :baby:

*wonders how long it will take for a GT staff writer to post this on the front page*

That would be Pimp if GCN did get FFX... but FFXI is my guess for the game

Drunk Hobbit 03-08-2002 04:15 PM

I don't like Square...but it does mean GameCube sales will increase...which means more people will want to develop for it...which means more games I like...yay. Hmmm, might try one of the FF games for GBA though.

magus113 03-08-2002 04:16 PM

thats great that GC and GBA are going to get some games.
It's about time that square lightens up a bit on nintendo.
they could probably remake ff7 with better graphics or a single player version of ff11 instead of an online one

Ridley 03-08-2002 04:19 PM

Square's making games for GCN and Hiroshi Yamauchi is actually funding the return?

*checks calendar*

*sees it isn't April 1*

*has a massive heart attack*

All I have to say is thank the big guy in the clouds. Lando Calrissian thank you!

;)

DeathsHand 03-08-2002 04:37 PM

That's awesome... I hope they still support PS2 nice and good though...

Hopefully AGB will get some nice lil' games... imagine a new 2D chrono game... hmm *rubs chin*

Hey I can dream can't I? :p

Although if this came from some kind of magazine, it COULD be an april fools joke since magazines are a month ahead (april comes out in March)...

just like that Sonic in SSB:M was EGM's april fools joke... *cough*

Edit: http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories...853838,00.html

Well OK now I believe it a bit more... :D

"but FFXI is my guess for the game"

But FFXI uses PS2's HD thing... NGC doesn't have one... how would they get it to work all nice and good

Maybe they will bring that "Final Fantasy X International" or whatever to NGC... and Kingdom Hearts (the disney/Square game)...

SHAT Grrr language filter.

I am rather pleased at that, moreso because it means that Squaresoft will be developing for GC and my hope for a compilation game of all the Squaresoft RPG's on SNES draws a step closer and also that other franchises will be available. I personally prefer the FF's of old to the newer versions but hey mabey my opinion will cahnge. Yeah.... Zelda FF Zelda FF Zelda FF Zelda FF.... yeah. Well done Hiroshi Yamauchi, you made them try harder to impress you, hopefully a higher standard of game will be delivered.

Step 1: SquareSoft diggitaly re-masters Final Fantasy I-VI and creates a double GBA cartridge pack.

Step 2: SquareSoft diggitaly re-masters Final Fantasy I-XI for GameCube in a 3-disk set, with GBA connections, so that you can share save files for Final Fantasy I-VI on GameCube and GBA.

Step 3:Continue to release forthcoming Final Fantasy installments for Nintendo formats, including Final Fantasy X, XI and XII.

Well, that's what I'd like to happen, but it probably won't....:( ,...still, I can dream....

Anyway, if this is true, then the tide has well and truly turned. This represents a hug marketing coup for Nintendo. SEGA was the first to relent, closely followed by Capcom and Namco, and now SquareSoft has joined the fray, well, who knows what may happen, but excpect developers in their hundreds to flock back to Nintendo. Now, Nintendo has four of the worlds top five developers tucked under their belts. (SquareSoft, Rarware, SEGA and Nintendo themselves, the fith being Bungie, which Microsoft blagged.)
On another note, perhaps it might attract back developers who push the GameCube away, because they got their hands bitten with the Nintendo 64, such as Konami. (Metal Gear Solid for the Nintendo GameCube, anyone?)

Also, his may kill off the 'short, but sweet' stratergy that runs around Nintendo at time of writing. With SquareSoft, and the influence that it brings to attract developers back to the Nintendo GameCube, relieving the games drought, Nintendo may have the time it needs to construct it's revelatory videogaming epics. We may yet see a 70 hour, realistic Zelda, and a humongous Mario game, before the Nintendo GameCube goes to the Great Attic of Forgotten Games Consoles in the Sky.....

Angrist 03-08-2002 05:10 PM

Is this confirmed????? Where's the source (not the XL site)???

:D:D

Idiot 03-08-2002 05:26 PM

I've just rememberd Enix, and their Dragon Warrior titles! (Which still outsell Final Fantasy 10 to 1 in Japan, and are rumoured for GC and GBA.) Imagine: Zelda, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior and Pokemon on the same formats. (Nintendo GameCube and Nintendo Game Boy Advance.) RPG heaven has opened it's pearly gates to Nintendo it seems...
