Mouse Question
Ok, this one has me stumped. I just bought an Optical Mini Mouse (try to hold the jokes back... please) GE type for my laptop. USB only. Plugged it in, nothing. Refreshed my device manager, nothing. Installed the software that came with it, nothing. Turned of the computer and turned it back on with the mouse plugged in, nothing. Did this more then once. And in different orders. Laptop is running on Windows PRO XP SP2. No new drivers to dl. The mouse is getting power (can tell from the REDEYE). I'm thinking of two reasons why this might be happening. Would like to hear from you guys. Thanks for the help.

Re: Mouse Question
im not totally familar with laptops.
however, on a PC, when you boot up and go into the bois, theres an option to enable USB Mouse and Keyobard support. Try such on the laptop? |

Re: Mouse Question
Push F2 or delete or whatever it is on startup, go to the Bios screen with all the boot-up info, and see if you can enable the mouse from there. Just mess around with the stuff in there.

Re: Mouse Question
OK, went in to the BIOS and enabled the USB Mouse... and guess what. NOTHING! I even went and bought a different mouse to see if it was just the mouse. And the new one isn't working either. It lights up when the computer is booting up, but once it gets to the WINDOW XP screen, the light dies. This is really starting to piss me off... this is the only computer I have until I get my stuff from the military. So I'm not getting my FPS fix! I NEED IT!

Re: Mouse Question
does it have a normal round (ps/2) mouse plug? cuz you could just use an adapter and plug into that. most come with one anyway.
or.... Right click MY COMPUTER, goto PROPERTIES. then click on the HARDWARE tab. then click on DEVICE MANAGER then in either -MICE and other pointing devices- or - Universal Serial Bus Controllers - make sure theres not one called UNKNOWN DEVICE or unknown something. if there is, delete or right lcick - Uninstall that unknown device, reboot and let XP try and reconize the mouse again. |
Re: Mouse Question
I doubt the hardware is properly configured, your mouse is lighting up.....so it has power.

Re: Mouse Question
Nothing with a yellow Question mark in My Device Manager. So I was also thinking that it was some type of Hardware problem. Was hoping that it was a faulty mouse, but what are the chances of getting TWO faulty mice.

Re: Mouse Question
Do you have a PC around that you can try these mice on? If not, what may be going on is possibly reinstalling the USB drivers just in case Windows is having a weird time trying to understand the mouse.

Re: Mouse Question
Alright, got my mouse to work. But you don't even want to now what I had to go through. It seems that SP2 is an EVIL dl. I wasn't able to dl USB for SP1 off the internet, so guess what I had to do. Yep, you guessed it... clean my HD and reload XP. AHHHH. Now this is where things really start to suck... even more then not having a mouse. I don't have all my software that came with the computer, thats with my house hold goods, and thats somewhere in the States waiting to get delivered to me. Now, I have about 6 ? in my device manager. And I can't get them off until I get my software. But my mouse is working.

Re: Mouse Question
Glad to hear you finally got that little bugger working. Sorry it had to come at the expense of several other lost devices. :(
