Christmas
So, what do you usually do around Christmas? Do you do things with your family? Any traditions, do you oppose Christmas completely?
As Samantha Bee said. (Paraphrased) "Christmas, December 25th, the only religious holiday that is also a federal holiday, So Christians can go to their services in peace, and normal people can think about the separation of church and state." Anyways, I love Christmas. I have "traditions" that my family always does over the days suurrounding Christmas, and the day itself. Christmas Eve i go to my grandpas down the street, Christmas, we have people here, and Boxing Day i go to my grandpas in North Van. (Yes....I will admit, I am slightly unsure on how to spell "grandpa") |
Re: Christmas
I don't think you got her quote down quite right but oh well.
I eat a lot of oranges. I get happy. I get depressed. This year's holidays have been a real joke so far. I can't help but see all the bull**** that this holiday encompasses. anyway, merry christmas! |
Re: Christmas
Well, I don't finish exams until the 20th, which absolutely sucks. Plus that fact that I go back to school on the 4th completely blows too.
Anyways, every Christmas Eve my family has a party with a bunch of our friends and neighbours. It's usually pretty darn fun! Drunken karaoke is a plus, too. On Christmas day, we usually open up gifts, then either Christmas lunch at my house and then go to my aunt's/baba's house for desert and gifts, or just go straight thereto eat. I am not sure which one we are doing this year. I expect either BIG presents or big money from my baba, haha. Why? Because my sister and my aunt are going to New York soon for 4 nights, and staying in some fancy hotel. So that means Christmas bonuses for me! muahahahaahaa. I would like to wish everybody a Merry Christmas, and leave you with a classic Christmas song. Down in the workshop all the elves were making toys For the good Gentile girls and the good Gentile boys When the boss busted in, nearly scared 'em half to death Had a rifle in his hands and cheap whiskey on his breath From his beard to his boots he was covered in ammo Like a big fat drunk disgruntled Yuletide Rambo And he smiled as he said with a twinkle in his eye "Merry Christmas to all - now you're all gonna die!" The night Santa went crazy The night Saint Nick went insane Realized he'd been getting a raw deal Something finally must've snapped in his brain Well the workshop is gone now, he decided to bomb it Everywhere you'll find pieces of Cupid and Comet Then he tied up his helpers and he held the elves hostage And he ground up poor Rudolph into reindeer sausage He got Dancer and Prancer with and old German Luger And he slashed down Dasher just like Freddy Krueger Then he picked up a flamethrower and he barbecued Blitzen Then he took a big bite and said "It tastes just like chicken!" The night Santa went crazy The night Kris Kringle went nuts Now you can't hardly walk around the North Pole Without stepping in reindeer guts There's the National Guard and the FBI There's a van from the Eyewitness News And helicopters circling 'round in the sky Now the bullets keep flying the body count's rising And everybody’s dying to know - Santa, why? My, my, my, my - you used to be such a jolly guy. Yes, Virginia, now Santa's doing time In a Federal prison for his infamous crime Hey little friend now, don't you cry no more tears He'll be out with good behavior in seven hundred more years. (Alternate verse used in concert) Yes, Virginia, now Santa Claus is dead A guy from the SWAT team blew a hole through his head Yes, little friend, that's his brains on the floor Guess you won't have the fat guy to kick around anymore Now Vixen's in therapy and Donner's still nervous And the elves all got jobs working for the postal service And they say Mrs. Claus she's on the phone every night With a lawyer negotiating the movie rights (They talk about) The night Santa went crazy The night Saint Nicholas flipped Broke his back for some milk and cookies sounds to me like he was tired of getting gypped The night Santa went crazy The night Saint Nick went insane Realized he'd been getting a raw deal Something finally must've snapped in his brain Something finally must've snapped in his brain Tell ya something finally must've snapped in his brain. |
Re: Christmas
Christmas (and most other holidays) are nothing more than pure BS.

Re: Christmas
Amen to that.
I love Christmas. It is my favorite time of year. My family doesn't have a set way of doing things. It kind of depends on what part of the world we're in. This year I will be driving straight to my Grandma's house after I finish exams (maybe with a stop over in St. Louis to visit jeepnut's house). My parents and siblings will be meeting me there. Then we'll go back to my parent's place and celebrate Chrstmas eve and Christmas day. On top of that, there are two birthdays to celebrate (in addition to Jesus') |
Re: Christmas
my parents are buddhists...but cause we live in Malaysia where all races celebrate everything for the sake of a holiday and some fun....every xmas we go for a nice fancy christmas-sy dinner with all xmas-sy stuff.....and i sometimes go carolling at church with christian friends...havent done that in awhile though....
we dont really exchange gifts.....but i sometimes try...last year i bought a bag full of candy canes and left one at the doorstep of all my closest friends at night...cheap..but sincere...;) |
Re: Christmas
I'm not religious and my parents aren't terribly religious either, but that doesn't mean that Christmas can't be a wonderful time for you to gather with friends, family, etc. and have a good time. It's definitely a fantastic time of year and I look forward to it despite it having no other deeper meaning to me other than that I don't have school for a while so I can hang out at home for a bit. And presents, yes, presents are nice.

Re: Christmas
It's only fantastic because there are presents. Without that, it would be thanksgiving. But that doesn't mean it's a bad thing.
I love Christmas |
Re: Christmas

Re: Christmas
Let's see.
Usually about the 15th of December, we put our tree up. The weekend before that, we put up our Christmas Lights. For Christmas Eve, I used to have to go to church for 5 hours. My mom used to be the organist at our old church, so I had to stay for the "All-purpose" service, and the "Quiet" service. You know how hard it is to stay quiet in a quiet service when you're ten years old the night before christmas? Yeah. It's hard. Christmas morning is usually the earliest I wake up all year. I run out maybe first, or second, depending on if my brother is out already or not. Then I turn up the lights a bit, and turn on the TV to something like the Christmas Parade, or a Christmas movie. With a bit of sound going, I inspect the presents carefully. Then my parents wake up around 8/9 am and we open stuff until 11/12, where we head off to my Grandparent's house, mother's side. There, we have lunch, and open gifts from my Grandma. After that, we hijack it over to my other Grandparent's house, where we meet most of our gameplaying cousins. It's tradition to set up a Nintendo system to the small little TV in the upstairs room and crowd around it. Parents usually gather downstairs, and they come up one by one to see what's going on. Then, dinner at some point, then we go for a walk. (Last year was nice, because I was able to play my lighted GBA on the walk.) Then, we play tons of games and watch a movie before it's time to head home. And that's Christmas. We leave our tree up until the 6th of January, because that's when christmas "really" ends. And my birthday is December 31st, so it's nice to have even more presents appear under the tree then. :D |
Re: Christmas
I just want everyone to know that I WILL NOT LET THIS THREAD delve into a religious argument. If you are religious or not there are plenty of reasons to love Christmas and this time of the year. At its most religious Christmas is a celebration of the birth of the messiah, at its least religious it is a celebration of our loved ones, families and the best parts of ourselves.
If you want to talk about your Christmas plans and what you do this time of year, post away. The minute this turns into a "Christmas is bull****"/"You're a miserable self-hating atheist" party, I'll be shutting it down. Now myself, I've been working so much lately I hardly even realize what time of year it is, which is ironic since I'm working so much BECAUSE of Christmas. One thing I have noticed is that Christmas stress is VERY real. I bounce at a local bar and you would be shocked at how many seemingly calm regilars end up having to be separated over the littlest things. The alcohol releases all that stress in a violent way, even if its just been pushing and shoving to this point. I've bounced for almost a year straight and I've thrown more people out in the past 2 weeks that I have all year long before that. But I'm in a great mood. My girlfriend is taking me to Atlantic City for Christmas and I can't wait to hit the tables. MONKEY!!! |
