Mario DS glitch?

Is it just me, but everytime i reload a game from the previous day, my once 20 lives turns into 4.... on every character....

i spent like a half hour loading each character up with like 20 dudes, and each time i turn it back on, they go to 4.... what gives?

Nintendo wants you to die?

That's an interesting bug if it is.

It was like that in the original as well. It's not a glitch, it's the game.

Its a Nintendo thing, I think. I'm not sure about the newer ones, but some Zelda games only give you three hearts when you start a loaded game, even if you had full health when you saved it (not that you only had three heart pieces, but out of howevr many you obtained, only three actually had life in them....).

Same with the older Metroids.

I don't know why they do that.

To make the games harder/more of a challenge? Or to stop people from cheating, by obtaining lives fairly.

That's kind of a cheap way to make a game more challenging. Especially in the cases of Zelda and Metroid where you start out almost dead when you begin.

There are only two ways I can think of as to how one could go around obtaining lives unfairly:

1) Using a cheat device such as GameShark, etc. In this case, however, I don't think it would be too hard for someone to just reinsert the cheat every time they play.

2) Abusing a glitch in game. But then, of course, this woud be Nintendo's fault for not catching the glitch. So they'd either have to assume there's a glitch in there (and pre-emptively stopping people from abusing it, which is cheap) or they knew it was there in the first place (so they should have just fixed the glitch).

Granted, that's just my thinking process. Nintendo's may be way different...

I think Super Mario AllStars saves all your lives, not sure about Super Mario World, but Mario 64 didn't. :( It's no glitch.
