Which made you cry more?

I have a theory about how Pixar movies affect us which I'm going to put to the test. So answer the poll and after a few responses I'll tell you if it bears out my pet theory.

The more I reflect on Toy Story 3, the more 'ehhhh' I feel about the whole thing. Up! was way better, and How To Train Your Dragon was way way better than Toy Story 3.

This is more accurate btw:

In terms of this poll question....Up is definitely the answer. Up gives you a lifetime of heartbreak in about ten minutes, and it's a real soul crusher.

I think Toy Story 3 was the better film though. It's legitimately funnier and the later scenes are still beautiful. Both are brilliant, but I think Toy Story 3 wins in terms of a complete film. Up knocked me out with that sequence though.

To me it was close, but went with Toy Story because growing up and kind of letting go of some of the things from your childhood is something we've all gone through, though mostly without the closure.

I see the story in Up as touching, but not something I can relate to just yet.

I wasn't impressed with Up

Any studio can start a story with a non-linear life-death tear jerker. didn't save the rest of the shallow, dogs in airplanes shit. Nothing cool about being emotionally blackmailed to the following hour of nonsense.

I still haven't seen TS3, savouring the wait. I saw How to Train your dragon a few days ago. Pretty stellar stuff.

I Definatley liked Toy Story 3 more.

Although in terms of movies where I get all emotional, Big Fish does it to me every time.

I can't remember being very emotional at the beginning of Up, but I do remember it for TS3.

And I still haven't seen How To Train Your Dragon.

Haven't seen How To Train Your Dragon or Up (I plan on watching Up ASAP), but I don't think neither will be able to beat TS3's ending.

Re: Which made you cry more?

Cried at the end of TS3 more than I have any other movie prior.

The first ten minutes of Up would have made a nice stand alone short film. Didn't care much for anything after that other than Dug. Also didn't cry during the beginning because I didn't feel like I knew the characters well enough whereas I've knew the Toy Story ones for 15 years.

How To Train Your Dragon is the best animated movie (and maybe the best movie of the year period if I could remember what) I've seen this year. Fantastic.

I found the beginning of Up to be very sad, and the ending of TS3 to be happy. I found the passing on of the toys to bring a great sense of closure. Andy even said that he would stop by to play with her occasionally, so the toys will even get to see him once in a while. I don't know how it could have ended any better.

8/8. Somehow I don't think that poll is helping Xantar.

The end of TS3 didn't affect me at all.

The beginning of Up was a tearjerker for me.

Re: Which made you cry more?

Well, this has turned out to pretty much kill my theory, but I'll offer it to you guys anyway.

My theory was that people in their late 20s (especially married ones) would find the beginning of Up more moving whereas younger (and unmarried) people would cry more at the end of Toy Story 3.

Although I liked both films, I was moved more by Toy Story 3 because it was more relatable to me (although I packed up for college 10 years ago). I also think that the end of Toy Story 3 was really a lot sadder than anything that happened in Up. If you think about it, the first few minutes of Up is really a pretty happy story. Carl meets the love of his life, they marry, they stay married to each other until death do them part, and as far as we know, they never stopped loving each other the entire time. Sure, they never had children, but other than that they really had it good.

The ending of Toy Story 3, on the other hand, is the end.

But your mileage may vary.

Re: Which made you cry more?

Maybe instead of age narrow your theory down to in a relationship/not in a relationship.

The beginning of Up was very sad for me because I imagined what it will be like if I outlive my significant other with only the memories of how happy we were together, and any regrets I had of things we never got to do would just be magnified, even if I knew she didn't really care about that.
