Oscar 2011 Ballot/Predictions

Here are the nominees for this year's Academy Awards

Waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait...

Inception wasn't nominated for best Direction or Editing...

The Oscars just invalidated themselves. Done. Over. Goodnight.

In case you didn't know yet: Inception is overrated.

Not that other Oscar winners aren't...

In your opinion. But objectively, that movie had the best editing and direction I've seen in long time, regardless of what you think of the rest. The snub for editing is what really amazed me. That movie as masterfully edited. They took what could have been a complete muddled disaster and made it work.

My favorite movie of the year: Inception.

Second favorite: Black Swan

Lets all list the things we like, shall we?

How To Train Your Dragon and Despicable Me were both good movies. The latter probably is not "Oscar worthy" but it was cute as hell and had a great soundtrack. How To Train Your Dragon was better than Toy Story 3 but just by a smidgen. At least in my opinion.

The Oscars are too political anyway. This is the second time Nolan got snubbed; I believe Dark Knight was negated from Best Picture (insofar that they upped the Best Picture from 5 to 10 films). I look at the Oscars as a good guide for cinema, and nothing more. I'd say that the Best Actor/Actress categories are the most interesting portion of the awards. On the other hand, can you believe that shit last year with Sandra Fucking Bullock winning for the most vanilla movie/performance on earth, The Blind Side? Okay, so I retract my statement. The Best Actress/Actor crap is rigged too.

I've actually seen all 10 nominated for Best Picture this year...This is how I would personally rank them.

1. Black Swan
2. King's Speech
3. Toy Story 3
4. Winter's Bone
5. True Grit
6. Social Network
7. The Fighter
8. Inception
9. 127 Hours
10. The Kids Are Alright

In terms of other categories, I have my personal favorites, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll win. I bet King's Speech is the big winner.

Kings Speech was good, but somewhat boring. Your grandma loves the Kings speech, guaranteed. When I saw it it was a packed theater, very few people under the age of 60.

Toy Story 3 was very good.

True Grit did not live up to the hype in my Opinion

Social Network wasnt as good as I was expecting either.

Inception is over-rated.

127 hours was actually pretty darn good.

Those are the ones I have seen...I guess if I had to pick a winner I would say 127 hours. No clear cut standout this year for me.

Should we do an Oscar pool?

Don't think we've ever had an Oscar pool

I'd be into doing some picks...

Here's a Oscar drinking game I stumbled upon too. Figure it would be good to share with the tavern. http://www.movieboozer.com/2011/01/o....html?spref=fb

I feel like we could come up with better if we tried, but not really sure how much different, better it would be.

So I guess the other end would be creating the right Oscar themed mixed drinks.

I'd be down for doing picks.

However, will some explain to me when betting on the Oscars became a phenomenon? Someone at my work was talking about this, and I want to know if this is some sort of cognitive bias or if this is some recent trend.
