Star: Wars or Trek

Finished watching Fanboys, which is a pretty funny movie.

And this seems to pop up often in the movie so curious on what side of the line GTers fall on?

While both great, I have to say Star Wars.

I am a Jedi Knight, it is what I wrote my religion as, in the last census taken in the UK.

Find a song by Moby, Star Wars Remix. Jus heard it the other day, it's great.

I've never seen more then the odd episode two of Star Trek, so I guess I'll pick star wars until I am more fully educated.

Too hard of a decision to make.

I've never really seen a full episode of Star Trek or any of the movies, so by default I'm a Star Wars man.

I love the old Star Trek. The original, with Shatner.
Not only did Shatner have the first white/black kiss on television, he was a totally badass captain. None of that "Democracy first" bullpoop. Shoot first, question the corpse.

But I do love Star Wars.

The original Star Trek was fantastic.

But Star Wars is just......Star Wars

Star Trek. There hasn't any decent star wars content since the early 80's (except the OLD Cartoon Network series), and Roddenberry was smart enough to allow others to handle his franchise rather than running it into the ground like Lucas. If you had asked me in the mid-90's? I would have said Star Wars all the way. But combine a continued movie franchise with an excellent series (The Next Generation and even DS9), and I think Star Trek wins by attrition.

George has deminished his own work to the point it is losing it's mystique over time, IMO. Enterprise almost gave us similiar results, but I think Abrams' movie is going to put the nail in the coffin in this argument.

Trek. Fox and Prof. S said it -- Georgey boy ruined Wars. While I don't like all the Trek, I like at least three different series of it (The Next Generation, Voyager, and to a lesser extent the Original Series), but I also like a handful of the movies. That's more than I can say about Wars. (I'd probably like Deep Space 9 if I had ever gotten into it. I liked an episode here and there of Enterprise, but for the most part that series was horrendous for me.)

And though I don't think even those Trek movies that I like match up with the original Wars movies, I agree with Prof. S that the new Abrams' Star Trek sure looks like it's going to be awesome, especially as the RT reviews roll in.

Re: Star: Wars or Trek

I don't think Lucas ruined Star Wars at all.

Rather, I think that everyone's expectation of the newer movies was set far far too high compared with the original epic trilogy. Go back and actually watch episodes 4-6, and you'll see one thing: They actually suck. However, that is immediately negated due to the fact it was released in the 70's (and obviously the "CGI" in it was fantastic for the time) and that Harrison Ford was in it. Mark Hamill was a terribly horrid actor 90% of the time - the only times he was a good actor was when he wasn't struggling to awkward up his lines. Again, this is negated due to the sheer fact of nostalgia.

Anyways, compared to the sheer epic-ness of the trilogy, people were expecting Episodes 1, 2 and 3 (especially 1) to literally give them a handjob while they watched it, because it was nearly almost 30 years since it started, so it has to have been 30 times better then!

And don't even bring up the Jar Jar Binks thing, without realizing Wookies, C3-PO or the Ewoks.
