A Nightmare on Elm Street

Much like Halloween and Friday the 13th, Hollywood's other big baddie is getting a remake.

The major difference here IMO is that Robert Englund defined the character so it will just be weird seeing someone else step into his boots.

Or his awful striped sweater.

I cannot watch freddy krueger played by somebody else, ever.

EDIT: Actually saw the trailer, still dont like a diff guy as krueger but I'll give this a chance, this movie is THE horror movie (the original that is) like my biggest boogie man ever has been this guy.

Fun fact! I have a sleeping habit I developed as a kid where i tuck the sheet covering me under my feet so freddy couldnt pull me by the toes (dont ask im not sure). I do this subconciously to this day.

I'd be more torn up about Robert Englund's departure if the original series hadn't turned into a camp-fest over the course of the 8 movies (including Freddy vs. Jason). I thought the fact that Rober Englund starred in all the films was more "fun trivia" than it was "the defining element to the series."

Anyway, the cinematagrophy looks gorgeous and the horror genre might be a genre just confining enough to keep Michael Bay from Baysploding a whole movie. Because let's face it...as good as Nightmare 1 and 2 still are (and they are classics)...the special effects are definitely showing their age in a campy way. Although the bed scene with Johnny Depp and the Bathtub scene are still two of my favorite scenes in cinema. Also, the scene where Freddy's face comes out of the wall...

Even though I have my doubts I think the casting is inspired. Jackie Earle Haley (guy who played Rorschach in Watchmen) could bring an entirely new menacing characterization to the series. He played a child molester before, in Little Children, and was nominated for an academy award for it.

This just doesn't look like Freddy to me, but apparently the look nor the voice are final yet.

In honor of this film I've been trying to beat the Nightmare on Elmstreet NES game. It's a pretty fun game but it would be way better if we could find the 4 player adapter.
