The Avengers Movie

This is what Marvel has been building towards for the last several years.

Joss Whedon of Buffy fame will be directing this movie.

I really like Ruffalo as the replacement Banner. I think he'll bring some much needed pathos to the role.

What I am programmed to say since I apparently hate Marvel, this film looks awful and boring!

But seriously, the film looks pretty boss. Some of the line choices are a bit iffy, "If we can't save it, we'll avenge it!"

And the minor role Hulk/Banner plays in it.

The only way this movie won't totally suck is if 3/4s of the movie focuses on internal conflict within the Avengers. Loki is lame and boring.

This. Any word on the Red Skull for this movie?

Re: The Avengers Movie

Haven't heard anything about him. Though it isn't just Loki. The set photos have them fighting a lot whole of dudes in motion capture suits with alien looking weapons and what appears to be a spaceship. No word yet what they're suppose to be. Since the trailer has Cap vs. Thor, might be Skrulls.

Re: The Avengers Movie

Could this be based on The Ultimates storyline with alien Nazis? I think Loki was in on that one as well. It would be an incredibly entertaining if it was, train-wreck or not. Keep in mind, this is Joss Whedon writing and directing. He specializes in awesome.

I actually like Loki a lot, and it sounds like he has a pretty large fan following.

Anything with Nazis is awesome, if Indiana Jones and Hellboy has taught us anything.

I hope they release a decent trailer soon. Not knowing what the hell they are fighting (besides Loki) is so frustrating.

Currently 100% at Rottentomatoes. The reviews have my expectations at unreasonable levels.

I am truly surprised this is getting good reviews. I know it's Joss behind the wheels, but I figured even he couldn't make this overloaded superhero movie anything but a bloated mess.

Re: The Avengers Movie

OK, so I just came back from watching this movie as it premiered thursday and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised by what it was, i was expecting a rushed mess of crap Xmen 3 style, but the movie has good pacing and is IMO one of the best superhero films out there.

I paid for the 3D but you could watch this movie without it (I like watching movies in 3D). The effects are not gimmicky in your face coming at you crap, its just there to add to the ambience.

All heroes get some decent screen time and while the movie has some gags and punchlines they come out good and not corny IMO.

The effects are top notch and when the action kicks in you are in for a treat. This will totally be worth your time if you are into this kind of thing, Id rate it 9/10.

P.S: As usual for Marvel movies, stay after the credits :)

Oh and Hi everyone....

Re: The Avengers Movie

This movie worked so incredibly well. :D The humor is subleme. Action gets really good as well.

My only complaint is that it was a bit slow in the first half. Oh and not every hero seems as useful/capable as the others.

This.

I want a Stark/Banner super scientist show.

Re: The Avengers Movie

Watching the trailers and reading the initial reviews, I'm getting the impression that this movie has an Indiana Jones type of vibe to it. Not that it's like Indiana Jones, but that it's a "rollicking adventure" with humor and action. Am I on the right track?

I want to see this soooooo bad...

Teuthida 05-02-2012 04:17 PM

Re: The Avengers Movie

Indeed you are. It's a fun (and quite funny) action packed good time from start to finish.

Angrist 05-02-2012 05:18 PM

Re: The Avengers Movie

I personally thought the first half was a bit slow. But perhaps that's only because I compare it with the superb second half.

Professor S 05-03-2012 07:55 AM

Re: The Avengers Movie

Going to see it with the wife tomorrow night. Question: 3D imax, 3D only, or regular? I've never seen a 3D movie in the theater.

Angrist 05-03-2012 10:01 AM

Re: The Avengers Movie

Hm.... It's not a movie you HAVE to see in 3D, but I did think it added a bit. It didn't have any in-your-face 3D effects. The action wasn't hard to follow, unlike some movies.

So ehm I don't know. Depends on the price difference. $1? Go for 3D. $5? 2D is fine.

Professor S 05-04-2012 01:23 PM

Re: The Avengers Movie

We went with 3D IMAX. I little more money, but we haven't been out to a movie since the baby was born, so we treated ourselves. Tonight, 10:10 PM. So excited...

No I agree with you, the beginning is slow.. but I guess to get pieces together.

Which is odd considering they had 5 movies to do it.

But boy oh boy.. the 2nd half.. and that climax.

Re: The Avengers Movie

Saw it today - what an amazing movie. This is the best Hulk movie to date, heheh.

Mark Ruffalo was awesome, definitely my favorite Banner so far.

Angrist 05-04-2012 07:40 PM

Re: The Avengers Movie

I heard tonight that Ruffalo wasn't in either of the recent Hulk movies, is that correct?
If so, is there a spiritual Hulk prequel to The Avengers? In other words: which one should I watch, The Hulk or The Incredible Hulk?

I was watching Eternal Sunshine otSM tonight and I knew that guy with the glasses looked familiar. He looked so much older in The Avengers...

Vampyr 05-04-2012 08:05 PM

Re: The Avengers Movie

The most recent Hulk with Edward Norton is supposed to be the prequel to this movie. The other one with Eric Bana was rebooted by the Ed Norton one.

Ruffalo has signed on to do 6 more movies as the Hulk. Most of those will probably be cameos, but should be one or two more real Hulk movies in there, and maybe another Avengers?

One of my favorite parts was Phil's little speech to Loki.

"You lack conviction."

That was fucking awesome. My wife and I were quoting scenes to each other all the way home.
