Donkey Konga

Has anyone else played this game at Circuit City, or Gamestop or somewhere?

Personally, I think this is the coolest game I've played in a while... I'll be getting it! So much fun and so simple, just like Nintendo said. Who else is getting this game? I definately am!

Yeah, I've got a job in a Gamestop so I play it all the time. My co-worker and I have a routine where we play with capped markers for drum sticks. She takes one bongo, I take the other, and when you're supposed to clap we hit our markers together in the middle.

It's kinda dumb, but it makes the customers laugh their asses off.

Yeah, I want a link or something also. I haven't heard of anything and I doubt there has been because the game is made by Nintendo..hence the name Donkey Konga ;)

Are you like...too good to figure out the context clues? :p

It's a rhythm game. You use a pair of bongo's as a controller, and you beat on them in tune with a certain rhythm.

It's like DDR for the hands. Minus the cool music, plus the cheesy Donkey Kong and friends.

The game comin out for PS2, isn't Donkey Konga, it's like Donkey Konga. It is called Taiko: Drum Master.

Taken from an issue of PSM:
"Neil Peart fans, take a notice. TAIKO: Drum Master lets you test your rhythm skills with the best of them the old fashioned way: with a drum. Utilizing a proprietary drum contoller (though a Dual Shock will also work), Drum Master doesn't stray far off the rhythm path - just hit the drum on beat - but its unique aesthetics and input methods make it worth noting.
The drum is sensitive on both sides, as well as on the edge and surface, allowingfor more sophisticated drumming. Add in a diverse se;ection of Japanese, American and - gasp! - classical songs (though we have to confess the song list is not yet final), not to mention some addictive multiplayer modes, and you've got yourself a musical hit."

And here is the full song list.

Hah, take that Xbox owners. No drum game for you. :p

Wait an hour, are y'all talking about the old drum game made in DDR-style, or the one that's an action game controlled by drumming and clapping that was such a big hit at E3?

I got my hopes all up before I realized what game y'all were probably talking about.

I'm sorry you think that, but maybe you should go to a game retailer with the demo and play the game before you make that assumption.

It's so great. I started work 2 weeks ago and I've already rang up 15 preorders for that game after giving parents, college students, and kids a lesson on it. Everybody I've shown it to has fallen in love with it.

Dylflon 08-31-2004 02:12 AM

Re: Donkey Konga

I'd play it. But not buy it. I could also just go and buy a set of real bongos. Those are fun too.

Typhoid 08-31-2004 02:17 AM

Re: Donkey Konga

I doubt i would even rent it if I owned a GC....it does seem childish to me as well.

Think about it....you hit drums to the beat. Woo.

Im not big on that style of game, the whole DDR thing isnt really my love.

I would play it and give it the old college try if someone i know rented it....but not me.

Yeah that's what I thought at first too! :D
I've seen some screenshots of that game and I'm more excited about that one.

But perhaps I should play Donkey Konga just to try it...

You just turned 13, you ARE a child.

I dont understand how you two can say this is childish. How is it any more childish than any other video game? Wha?

Your arguments dont make any sense. Video games in essence are childish. They bring out the child in you...and what's the difference in hitting a bongo, a ddr mat, or the buttons on a controller?

:shakehead:

Not to ruin your point, but what about Manhunt, Mortal Kombat, GTA, games like that?

Kidding, i dont care.

But yeah, games are meant to be childish, in a sense, they are supposed to take you back to yesteryear, back when you didnt care about anything, back in the day.

well if I think that it's childish and I'm only 13 than it must be very childish

I think killing peopel and stealing is also childish. If you cant vent your anger to make money in a more honorable way, you are indeed acting very childish. In a video game it's different...its not real so you can actually enjoy doing it...but that doesnt change the fact that it's childish.

Someone should ban my brother fast. (code). He's making idiotic post (like his last two in this thread) for the sole purpose of getting money to feed his pet. >_>

Crash 08-31-2004 10:26 PM

Re: Donkey Konga

feed his pet... that's not childish at all... heh

no even GTA is childish... brings back memories of smashing toys and breaking stuff... as well as playing army and cops and robbers.

give the game a try, you might like it...I think DDR is dumb and childish, but then i've never tried it. I played donkey konga and it's essentially the same, but I find it very entertaining.

Who doesn't sing in their car when they drive, who doesn't even drum on the steering wheel when they get into it... it's the same idea.

Nintendo does make great fun games, but people are so damn judgemental that they are missing out... mindless sheep you are... mindless sheep.

Re: Donkey Konga

Yeah, I dunno. It just bothers me how people can say a game's dumb without ever playing it. Whatever.

On a lighter note, I got three more reserves for Donkey Konga today - all from University of Minnesota students. :-p

Yes I want to play a game where I get to delve into a character that catches the train to work and does really mature things like deposits money into his bank account, and study in his spare time. Gimme gimme gimme

Whack drums in the ass as they eat watermelon

And prettier too

They're not crappy. ;)

Re: Donkey Konga

I still think the game is kinda childish...yes, apparently games are supposed to be childish, somehow...( I dont really see how Manhunt or GTA or anything is childish) but the idea seems lame to me. Im not big on the "cartoony" games that are aimed at little kids.

I know older poeple like it to, its just that games like this, (DDR as well) just dont do it for me.

Call me judgemental or what have you, but i know what my video game preferences are, and this isnt one of them.

Wow, have you ever seen so many smiles in two pictures.

And to the childish thing, you can't dislike a game because it's childish. Look a Double Dash, it's a childish game and lots of people like it, old and young. Alot of the funnest games are childish. (Oh and Typhoid, this isn't directed at you.)

Crash 09-03-2004 12:17 AM

Re: Donkey Konga

my fav games are the childish ones...

super monkey ball, mario kart, mario golf

but i also like splintercell, metal gear solid and eternal darkness

and i like amy lee, cause its not that same old rap or teenage alternative crap

Ruling things out based on their level of maturity levels just means that you are missing out on an experience. Which can't be good.
