Overclocking
I've taken necessary cooling precautions, but I'm not sure about how to go about overclocking the processor. I'm assuming you change the FSB speed in the BIOS, but whats a safe speed to change it to? i currently am running a 2500+, the actual clockspeed i believe is 1.83 GHz. I'd like to overclock it so that it runs about equal to a 3200+. Can anyone help?

Re: Overclocking
I have a 2500+ at 3200+ so I know how to do it to 3200 speeds easily (as long as nothing else inside complains :p )
Go into bios, the FSB should be at 333 (or 1 mhz around it) right now. Change it to 400 and your set. Now also, you do have PC-3200 ram right? (just to make sure it can handle 400 fsb without any problem) |
Re: Overclocking
i wish i had money to buy a 2500+...my ****ty comp is on a 1400+ (running really really really well)...oh well, hell my comp is so old, the motherboard doesnt support DDR RAM
lol...junbo, can you list what cooling stuff or whatever i would need to get a 2500+ to a 3200+? and how much it would cost |
Re: Overclocking
I suggest a water cooling system...but thats just me :)

Im sorry....i just find that f****** hilarious. |
Re: Overclocking
All you would need is a decent heat sink and fan. Jonbo has some insane heat sink that bolts to his mobo and a fan that, if ran on high, will cause you to throw it out of the window because of the noise.

Re: Overclocking
yea, same, i actually have the heatsink made for the 3200+, it was the same price....it also has the fan and bolts to the motherboard, plus i have a PCI slot double fan installed, as well as 2 external fans on the side of my case, and in the back. I think i'm alright on cooling. I never notice the noise since i always have music playing :D

yes yes, laugh it up

![]() ![]() (thats the same mobo I have but the northbridge heatsink is different for me) And the fan I have (with a fan controller obviously like Hero2 said) Image shown has a grill on it, mine doesnt for obvious reasons ![]() And just a comparision shot of a puny 80mm fan vs. Tornado 92mm (that i have) ![]() |

As for overclocking, anyone have experience overclocking a P4 2.4GHz B (533FSB)? I have a decent enough mobo to be able to change the speeds, but I've never had balls big enough to mess with such expensive components. |
Re: Overclocking
It's made of all Copper (best heat conductive material for a heatsink)
|
Re: Overclocking
Heat sinks are usually made of aluminum and copper.
Edit: Damn you jonbo. ;p |

junbo, post prices please?

Re: Overclocking
What the hell is a heatsink......:wtf: I know it sounds lame.....but perhaps my computer is too damn good.....who knows...

For the fan, I have no clue. Hero2 couldn't stand the noise (he had no fan controller) so I got it from him for free as an Xmas gift. And typhoid, a heatsink is a thing that helps to transfer heat away from the processor so it doesn't overheat. And no processor (past 1990 at least) can survive without a heatsink to transfer the heat off from it. |

After a few tests where you can see the RAM is stable at the speed slowly increase the CPU multiplier and retest until you reach the ceeling of it's speed on current cooling and voltage. From here on you're on your own if you try to increase voltage and other stuff. |
Re: Overclocking
I have a 2500 Gimpy ;)
And to quiet: As long as his isn't a locked barton (on hte multiplier) he can change it. I know about a year ago or so AMD started locking the multipliers on them (unfortunately mine was locked too) so he may or may not be able to mess with it too. And also, I spaced on the 166/200 thing. I'm used to thinking 333/400 and didn't think about the bios possibly showing it that way. |
