Riddles thread
I was looking around GT thinking about wat would be cool to have a thread about and then it hit me. *WHAM*
RIDDLES! We need a good thread about riddles. I don't think that there is any other thread for riddles so I started this. Basically ask riddles and answer them. Oh, and +rep people who can get the hard ones if you want. I'll get the ball rolling. A house is built with all 4 sides facing south. A bear walks by. What colour is the bear? EDIT:Type in different colours to make it interesting. Please. |

Re: Riddles thread
English!
There are more than ten words in the english language! Is that the answer? |
Re: Riddles thread
No I'm sure that the answer is an actual word. I used to know this one but I can't remember. Curse this human brain.

I think the answer is "therein" 1. the 2. there 3. he 4. here 5. herein 6. her 7. in 8. ere 9. rein 10. therein :) Ok... A man was building a house out of bricks, and he had just enough bricks to build the house. Not one to many or one too few. He takes one brick and throws it up in the air, how many does he have now? I dont feel like writing in different colors, btw. And why the heck is the bear white? I dont get it. |
Re: Riddles thread
The bear is white because the house was built at the North Pole. On the North Pole. It's a Polar Bear. :)

And no one has got my riddle...and it's a really hard one, so in the mean time, I'll tell you another one. If someone can get the answer to this one, I'll give you the answer to the first: A man and a woman are on an airplane, traveling to England. The man is a very worn down person, and looks like a bit of a hermit. He has torn clothing and appears to be poor, but he is smoking a cigar. Next to him is a very very high class woman, wearing very elegant clothes and a lot of expensive jewelry. She has her hair all done up, and almost appears to be royale. She is holding a poodle in her lap. She turns to the man and says: "sir, that cigar smells dreadful, and is causing my clothes to stink, please put it out." The man replies: "I will put out my cigar if you get rid of that poodle." The woman promptly throws the poodle out of the window. The man is stunned. He thought the poodle was the womans pride and joy. So he smiles and tosses out his cigar. Suddenly someone yells: "Dog on the wing!!!" So everyone on the plane rushes over to see, and they see a dog on the wing of the plane, with something in it's mouth. What is it? |
Re: Riddles thread
First guess would be the Cigar, but maybe it's deeper than that.

I also like to do what you mentioned. I tell the first riddle, the brick one to a group of people, and I refuse to tell them the answer. I even go as far to say "sleep on it...you might have an idea when you wake up..." Then several days or even a week later, I tell the next part. They want to kill me, but I love it. On one of my scholarship retreats I told the first part of the joke to my favorite supervisor. He's a short guy who loves video games and is obsessed with star wars. He is also an English Major and has read all of my favorite books. Then, I told the last part of the joke to another supervisor, a woman, and told her to wait until the retreat was over to tell him the second part of the joke. He still remembered it the next time I saw him. haha |
Re: Riddles thread
I have a bunch. To make it less fun, im putting the solutions at the bottom, so if you dont want to know, dont read them.
Q1. Mom, Dad, and 2 kids have come to a river, and they find a boat. It is small and can only carry one adult or 2 kids at a time. Both kids are good rowers, but how can the whole family reach the other side of the river? Q2.Why can't you take a picture of a Indian woman with hair curlers? Q3.What is the largest possible number you can write using only 2 digits - just 2 digits, nothing else? Q4.Before Mt. Everest was discovered, what was the tallest mountain in the world? Q5.Because cigars cannot be entirely smoked, a hobo who collects cigar butts can make a cigar to smoke out of every 5 butts that he finds. Today, he has collected 25 cigar butts. How many cigars will he be able to smoke? Q6.Jenn is facetious. She is also abstemious. She gets pneumonia. Given those clues, what is the only American tree she will like? Q7.How many birth days does the average man have? Q8.Why are 1898 silver dollars worth more than 1897 silver dollars? Q9.What English word can have 4 of its 5 letters removed and still retain it's original pronunciation? Q10. If there are 5 apples on the counter and you take away 2, how many do you have? ------------------Solutions--------------------------- A1. The kids row across. One comes back. An adult goes over, and the kid comes back. Both kids row across again, and one comes back. The other adult rows across and the kid comes back. Both kids row across again. A2.You can't take a picture with hair curlers you need a camera! A3. 99 ( 9 to the 9th power), this is 9x9x9x9x9x9x9x9x9 or 387,420,489. A4.Mount Everest has always been the tallest mountain, even before being discovered! (Actually the tallest mountain is Mauna Kea in Hawaii, but that is only counting what is below the water as well.) A5. 6, he makes 5 originals from the 25 butts he found, and after he smokes them he has 5 butts left for another cigar. A6.The Sequoia. She only likes words with all 5 vowels in them. The Sequoia is the only American tree that contains all 5 vowels. A7. One. A8.$1,898.00 is one more silver dollar than $1,897.00 A9.Queue A10. 2 |
Re: Riddles thread
What's the sum of every number from 1 to 100?
It's 5050. 1+100 is 101, 99+2=101, so since you're using 50 pairs, 50 X 101 is 5050. |
