Super Smash Bros. DS?!
I saw this on cube-europe.com

If this turns out to be true, I'll be really giddy about an SSB: DS. And since it will most likely be online, if they launched this, it could be the killer app to own for the DS. |
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
And one must ask themselves, why the hell didn't they make Smash Bros. online on the GCN to begin with?
I don't understand, Nintendo is going on about this wireless online gaming with the DS, and yet their home console, GameCube, remains offline with no plans at all, because Nintendo doesn't believe online gaming is worth the risks, or that it is profitable, and yet doing this online plan with the DS is much riskier and more expensive (on their part) than it would've been with the GCN. Sometimes I just wonder what the hell is going on with them. |
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
Haha I agree, they're all messed up. Must be the sushi.
Nintendo KNOWS about SSB, I've never doubted there would be a DS version. Pwn3d. Just imagine all the games played in school during the breaks. :D |
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
I personally don't care one way or another, if it's online.
I'm just pissed they would rather make a sequel on DS then consoles, hey portable SSB would be fun, but it needs a big screen counterpart. |
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
If someone will explain to me how the DS will be online, I will +rep them.
I just dont understand how it is supposed to work. Will you have to plug your DS into the wall? Will I HAVE to have a broadband connection to use this? Or will it be WiFi? And if it is WiFi, will someone please explain to me what WiFi is and how it works? |
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
Its WiFi. And it just works over a wireless connection that you can either setup in your own home or find one of many hot spots (wireless connectivity available) areas.
|
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
I agree with DM about the online thing... sometimes I wonder what goes on at Nintendo. They don't make any sense at all.
On a side note, seeing as I like the SSB series, but won't bet getting a DS, the game doesn't interest me much. |
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
Well, I think the DS is Nintendo's beginning of their next gen of hardware that will be more industry friendly per se because they are listening more to the consumer. Although the only downside to the DS for me is no analog stick which could hurt them and shy developers away.

What kind of places have WiFi? How much does it cost to set it up? |
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
It depends. Some places can have a sign up saying it is, you can check a few sites online that tell what place have WiFi available.
And as for cost. A decent wireless router at home is $50-$75 and for a wireless card or usb adaptor, they can be between $35-$65 depending on brand. |
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
i already told you guys...
the NEW super mario is going to be Super Smash brothers... here's a good show. ![]() adventure mode |
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
I hope it's graphics are equal or greater to that of Super Smash Bros. 64.
|
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
But the receiver is already in the DS, so you'll just need the wireless router. :)
Big hotels have these hot spots most of the time. You could just sit on their doorstep. :D |

Plus your broadband service that most already have....
|
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
Don't you have to pay when you're tapping into a hotspot? I mean, don't they have software that can detect who is using their hotspots?

Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
That sounds like way too much trouble just to play online.
And for another thing, I dont have broadband.... I think I'll get a DS anyway, but only after I see how well people like the games and if it will even be worth upgrading from my recently purchased SP. (I got it right before the DS was announced....) |
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
Usually your best bet for a free login is someplace like an Internet Cafe.
|
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
Kind of diminshes the whole portability feature when you have to stay at a certain place to use it.
|
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
Well you can ALWAYS use the local wireless link cable (;)) for multiplayer. You can't play online with your PC wherever you want, do you?

Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
Well, if your playing single player, it doesnt matter what your doing. But if you want to play online, your gonna have to either sit down and play or if the DS has a method that auto pick's up on new networks that have no encryption and can continue playing. But who knows, Nintendo hasn't said much on online play for DS yet :p
|
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
Right, a Hot Spot is only necessary for online play. You can always just wirelessly link up with your friends if you're hanging out - no Hot Spot necessary.
What else is Nintendo supposed to do for portable online access? They'd have to either put Satellite linkage into the DS (expensive) or use a Cell Phone Tower system to relay the data (also expensive). You can't blame them - there's no other good way to do it. We're lucky they're doing it at all. |
Re: Super Smash Bros. DS?!
That's what I was thinking. Take it or leave it!! There's no alternative.
