The official name for the DS

Is Nintendo DS. ;) I guess they liked it and I don't blame em.

They have shown the final look of the machine:

(You might have to right-click and click 'show picture', because PlanetGameCube doesn't want me to link to their site. :p)

"Software companies worldwide have more than 120 Nintendo DS games in development. Nintendo alone is developing more than 20 titles, and in excess of 100 companies have signed on to create games for the new system."

I fell in love with the DS all over again.

I approve.

It looks pretty good. And the news about the games and the companies signing on is very good. I have a question? Does the DS use discs or cartridges? I haven't really been paying much attention to it..

Good job Nintendo on going back to the board and bringing out a product 10x better looking then it was before. Now I want one since I won't have this gray box out and about and people looking at me weird :p

Cartridges. But don't worry, battery life isn't going to be bad

Re: The official name for the DS

Well when I first saw the pic didn't think it was much changed from the original design.. Then I saw the old design, and it is a big change, it looks a whole lot sleeker and the color is better

Only issue is where does the stylus go?

Lower right area of the DS, see that small circle? The bigger image shows where the stylus goes very well.

Looking nice. And kinda cool to have a system with my initials.

Re: The official name for the DS

Of course they named it the "DS." They need to name it something with a small pre or suffix that they can add to every one of their titles. They didn't do that with the cube and they don't have nearly enough creativity to come up with another new set of titles.

Zelda DS
Mario DS
Metroid DS
Here they come!

And furthermore.

How typical of Nintendo.

Yeah, they sexed it up after the PSP out classed and out gamed them in every facet imaginable, but they didn't add an analog stick. Remember how ground breaking that thing was according to Nintendo in 96'? Apparently it's not going to be that important to play glorified ports of their old games that once couldn't be played without it. Maybe 18 months after it comes out they're going to realize it was a good idea and we'll get a DSSP, and then everyone will fork over another $200 to get the real deal that they were screwed out of in the first place.

Pfft.

Someday all the bull**** will come back and bite them in the ass for real, and I don't intend to be on the ship when it does.

Nintendo was one of my favorites when it came out. Atari got old. A similar pattern applies today. Nintendo got old.

yeah, but it has the touch screen - nintendo wants that to be the "new" analog stick. i can understand why they didn't include it. take a look at it this way: some laptops have the touchpad (nintendo) and some have that crappy eraser head in the middle of the computer (sony) i'm not complaining about the lack of analog stick at all.

hard to imagine right now, but i can picture using the touch screen with your finger to move your character.... tough to get used to at first, but so was trying to use the analog stick with fighting games... at first.

Re: The official name for the DS

I'd just like to point out how incredibly comfortable and sexy the GBASP's control pad is. It is very comfortable, and I have had no problems moving in all directions with it. I'll reserve judgement until I get my hands on a DS, but I bet it will all work out. Remember all the harsh comments about the SP before it came out? Those were quickly dismissed.

Canyarion 07-29-2004 05:15 AM

Re: The official name for the DS

Heh I remember those. Everyone said it was too cubic to be comfortable. :D

Crash, I think the touch screen will be used for a lot of movement things, but remember that the position isn't really comfortable for your hands...

The Blue/Black combo is the best one. The Blue/Silver one is excellent too. Also the Retro one is good too.

I like it. I think I'll try to make a Photon-suit style, so it fits the Jet Black Gamecube and the Onyx SP I have. :D

I.... fail to see your point.

Elaborate.

(but both the touchpad and the knob suck, I use a mouse on any laptop)

that's right, they do both suck... i always thought they sucked badly, but after being forced to use them I got used to em. I still prefer a mouse, but the touchpad is cool now. However, most people use a Wacom Tablet when editing pictures (those professional guys i mean). That is like the DS's controls. They use it because it's more accurate. My point is, dont knock it until you try it. Maybe not right away, but after a season or so, there will be some pretty wild games appearing.... and that is what i'm looking forward to.

Nintendo is right, if something doesn't happen fast, this next generation will be the last one the video game market sees.
