Next Generation Plans

What are your plans as far as the next generation consoles go? Are you going to buy all of them or just one or two? Right now I have an Xbox, PS2 and GameCube but I don't think I can afford to support three consoles in the future. Though at the same time I don't want to miss out on any great games. Damn you exclusivity, damn you!

I'll be in University so I can only devote my time to one console. Most likely it'll be N5.

Re: Next Generation Plans

Right now I have no solid plans to buy anything but Ps3. I may get Xbox 2 if it gets PD:0, and I may get N5 if it gets a more N64ish version of zelda... but like I said, those plans aren't solid :p

Re: Next Generation Plans

I'll probably only get the N5 because the way things are looking, gaming is becoming so mainstream that its gonna be For every 100 piece of sh*t selling games, theres gonna be 2-3 great games that dont sell like they should have. I doubt I'll be going MS/Sony route because of the way they are entrepreting the console business. They think of it as trying to make it this grand all in one thing. Well, they dont know how to work in console business. Nintendo is the veteran and at least knows that in the console business, gamers want GAMES to play. And I'm one of them.

But if worst comes to worst and the console business in the future sickens me, I've already begun a collection of old school systems and games so I'll be fine to know that what I'll be playing is better then what MIGHT, i stress MIGHT come out in the future.

/end rant

heh you sound like one of those paranoid survivalists with bunkers stuffed with food in montana.

True Nintendo has been known for quality over quantity, but their quality has been slipping a bit lately. They still make great games but there's a bit of polish missing.

This is the first time that I'm not 100% sure I'll be getting the Nintendo console right off the bat. It depends somewhat on their online plans and cost. It would be cheaper if Nintendo just made games for other consoles, though I don't think I want to see that happen. The more toys the better.

Re: Next Generation Plans

The Way Nintendo's closed mindedness is going. the N5 is WAY out of the pitcure for me. it will be the first nintendo console i will not buy. which is sad, but i cant afford to waste money on thier empty promises anymore.

Xbox 2. Sorry but no. not gunna happen either.

PS3, im leaning towards yes. so prolly will pick it up.

My main gaming these days is PC, i've just gotta say i've outgrown the consoles. And online play is what i like.

GameMaster 04-29-2004 07:18 PM

Re: Next Generation Plans

I'll only be getting Nintendo Gamecube 2.

Re: Next Generation Plans

I still love Zelda Mario and Samus, but I'm not touching the N5 with a 10 foot pole anywhere within a year and a half of launch because personally, I think it's going to be nintendos last console. When it's cheap I'll pick it up.

PS3 is up in the air, but I doubt it.

Xbox 2 Probably.

I don't game much anymore, and when I do it's usually on the PC.

Acebot44 04-29-2004 08:38 PM

Re: Next Generation Plans

Xbox 2: for sure.

Ps3: most likely, it just depends on the price.

N5: Depends on the games. I havent bought a GC for it's games yet so...

Me either.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention PC gaming. That'll be continuing for me indefinitely.

Re: Next Generation Plans

When the next consoles come out I'm planning on buying a new PC.

So, that and university....cash isn't going to be all over the ****ing place.

It's funny. Nintendo's stance has been that they don't see online gaming as profitable. Well, funnily(yes it's a word)enough I won't be purchasing their next console because of their genius marketing strategy. WAY TO BE PROFITABLE NINTENDO!
I used to only think of getting a Nintendo console, but unfortunately their retardedness has altered my choice. If I do purchase a console it will either be a PS3 or Xbox2.

And then what happened?Mmm. What do you really want to ask me?
What is cash?
What was so funny about it?When was this exactly?Well that's okay.
When is funnilyyes it not a wordenough he or she will not be purchasing their next console because of their genius marketing strategy?
Quite honestly, I wouldn't worry myself about that.
By now you do not do only think of getting a Nintendo console but unfortunately their retardedness has altered his or her choice anymore?Try it.

I'll probably be getting the N5, but I think Nintendo should be taught a lesson.... perhaps I'll wait with buying it.

I'll have to see about my money situation... But probably a PS3 if it is anything like how PS2 was this generation.

But the only way I will get a next gen system is if I win it somewhere, or receive it as a gift.

PS3

For

Final Fantasy
MGS
Suikoden
Xenosaga (or whatever they make)
GT series

and many more if those come, it's a gauranteed buy.

Re: Next Generation Plans

My plans are simple....Sony PS3 is booked for purchase in my future. Nintendo is just a gaming console, and I don't think it's about that anymore, which is why they call it Next Gen Consoles, meaning not only gaming but CD/DVD/Networking....

PS3 is the way to go for me, and it will always be Sony, no matter what anyone else says.

I might buy the Xbox2 if ever I won the lottery. But to no avail, my salary only allows for one console.

Games to look for on PS3,
a new final fantasy
a new gran turismo (mosdef)
a new suikoden (with the way things are going, maybe we'll be in Suikoden 5 or 6 by the time PS3 comes out... Bring back Gremio,Pahn, and the Pretty Boy Attack!)

I also heard the PS3 is going to sport a CD-R burner.... cool, another perk with buying a Sony product...

what would you do with that.... i suppose you might be able to burn levels and take em to friends houses, but who would do THAT?

Canyarion 05-03-2004 06:50 AM

Re: Next Generation Plans

Just put the levels on a SD card. Or a FlashMedia one. Or a Memory Stick.

GM, if nobody buys the N5 right from the start, they'll have to lower the price and stuff.

Crash why does you legolas never work? and where's Boromir?? :(

I agree... I also wonder how Nintendo is getting there numbers when they say online gaming isn't profitable?!!?

Null 05-03-2004 11:43 AM

Re: Next Generation Plans

It's because nintendo doesnt understand online gaming fully.

Nintendo believes that people wont pay an extra service fee like Microsoft has for Xbox live. Which is some degree is true. some people like me wont.

However nintendo believes that they have to put up the servers to host games so people can play online, there by loosing money if they offer it free like Sony. Which is False. the players can be the hosts for the servers themselves. much line sony does online. one player hosts and another connects.

My hope is that consoles will integrate more with computers and people can set up full servers to run 24/7 like they do on PC games. except hosting console games instead.

Nintendo needs to do a little more research because making a game online compatable doesnt make them lose money, it makes the game sell more.

Re: Next Generation Plans

I read the other day that 40% of people with internet access have Broadband so there is no reason for Nintendo not to get in next gen. Plus, with the government pushing to make broadband available to everyone (wireless, over the power lines, etc...)I think if Nintendo doesnt announce an online plan next gen. they are done for because online console gaming has taken off alot since the DC days.

TheGame 05-03-2004 11:58 AM

Re: Next Generation Plans

I agree Null, and sometimes online gaming is the difference between buying a game for one console or another. My plans this generation were tobuy my EA games on GCN... but Ps2 introduced online gaming and the ability to download updated rosters, while the GCN version had GBA conectivity. *thinks about which is better*

Online gaming can swing game sales(EA sports), Hardware sales (HDD and headset for Ps2), and console sales (Xbox/Ps2 over GCN). Also, the online gaming community is growing and having strong ties to the systems that have the online games... Just think about every person on Xbox live, every person with a Ps2 Network adapter, and every person currently playing games online through PC. By not including online gaming you are cutting that market out.

What is that?I am thinking about every person on Xbox live every person with a Ps2 Network adapter and every person currently playing games online through PC.Will that accomplish your objective?
