Really late birthday gift.

When I turned 16, which was two Decembers ago, my parents wanted to get me something really nice. There was one problem though. My dad had been out of work for 2 years, and they couldn't spend too much on something nice, so I've been waiting a long time for my 16th birthday gift. My parents finally gave it to me today. It is a flying lesson! I can't wait. I believe I'll be doing it in May. I've always wanted to know what it would be like to fly a plane. Have any of you ever flown a plane? I wonder what it will be like. I'll post and tell you what it was like after I've gone. :D

All I got for my 16th birthday was a golf club and a pat on the back.

Cool! Let us know how that turns out.

I've always wanted to fly a helicopter personally.

That sounds awesome, man! one of my mother's close friend's kids can fly fighterjets..that's so awesome....they've done dogfights and whatnot. It's something that i think almost anybody would like to do for fun . I mean, that's a REALLY cool hobby.

My mom and I made my reservation for the flying lesson today. I'm going on July 5th at 1:00 PM. Woohoo, I can't wait. This should be a really neat experience.

I've always wanted to see 2 planes crash...

Why is it when 2 planes crash its called a "near-hit"?
The planes did hit.
Wouldnt it make more sense to call it a "near-miss"?

Oh yeah, when your flying, just remember not to crash...

I wonder if the instructor is going to have a hang over?

Blood alcohol levels still high maybe?

Have fun flying. I'm planning on skydiving soon.

DON"T EVER SKY DIVE IN ALBERTA!!! there's this sky dive place somewhere in that province that has had 5 deaths in the last 10 years or something like that. They have videos of the people about to jump and it looks so sketchy. Apparetnly it's a pretty popular sky dive place. gah

Okay, I'll just answer everyone's question first, before I say what happened.

I didn't crash.

Okay, well, it was a really awesome. We did an inspection of the play for about 20-30 minutes, and when we finally started the plane, there were a few other things to be checked. I took the plane off, and it wasn't that hard at all. Just push the throttle in, slowly, over a time of three seconds, and as you get going faster, about 50, I pulled back on the stick(whatever you want to called it), and we were lifted up in the air. It was pretty simple, and really fun. I did a little turned, which was interesting, because you do it with your feet. For the most part the instructor did most of the flying, showing me everything, and he landed. I got to taxi the plane back to the lot where they park the planes. It was a great experience, and I recommend it to anyone who might want to do it. If you have any questions, just ask, and I'll answer them.
