What gives teachers the right?

So, apparently some college professors seem to think that just because they have that status they somehow have the right to be rude.

And the same goes for old people (especially old women)... (especially old FEMINIST women)

argh.... anyone else had any bad experiences with people being rude and think that its alright because of who they are?

Re: What gives teachers the right?

Just spit in their face if they are rude to you.

Re: What gives teachers the right?

Yeah, I've had teachers who think superiorly of themselves. I'm not sure because I'm not in college yet, but I think Professors are supposed to be even worse than K-12 teachers. Maybe one of our older members could verify that. Anyway, I don't tolerate it.

Re: What gives teachers the right?

None of my professors have been too bad so far. Well, one I wasn't too sure of, but I dropped the class before I could find out...Basically I like my other professors though, they're pretty nice people.

Re: What gives teachers the right?

I wont let teachers be rude to me...I establish myself as an outspoken, opinionated, take-no-crap-from-nobody student from day ONE. If they happen to speak rude to me, I speak rude right back to them...they DONT have the right.

Things used to be worse, though...I remember my dad told me that when he was in highschool, one kid mouthed off to a teacher and the teacher literally threw the kid down the stairs. No charges.

Wow, that just sounds overtly bitchy....

anyhow, my academic advisor is also department chair and a professor, and he likes to intimidate peoeple.. and yeah.. it sucks... just have to stand strong... AND TAKE IT.

Taking it isn't being a pushover, taking it is realizing what you need to do to get ahead... figure, almost any profession makes more than that or a professor or teacher... if you grade depends on taking their bs, and cringing in side, then just do it and figure than you'll be making twice as much as them later :)

Yea. If you get pissed at them thats exactly what they want. Just ignoreing them is the better thing to do.

Some professors need to be shot. However, shooting all the dumb, annoying, smart-ass teachers will cause a shortage in the already slim pickings of teachers, so we can't do that.

I disagree, though im only still in Highschool, (i didnt fail, i should be there) The stupid teachers/Profs, are what makes the world go 'round. Without stupid profs that dont know what they are talking about, we would be all smart and stuff. And thats not a world that I want to live in!!

I don't think you have to worry about that. :p

I know what all of you are saying. Teachers think they are hot crap these days but most of them are cold diarrhea.

Re: What gives teachers the right?

I experienced it a lot more in High School and even Jr. High than college. Teachers here care about you just as much as you care about them. They can (and probably will) be your friend and still give you an F. lol

Re: What gives teachers the right?

Certainly teachers, instructors, professors think highly of themselves, but in their elustrious and lackadaisical lives, they need that confidence and superiority complex to fill in the blanks in their lives.

Now, not to sound too much like a textbook, I'll just say that it's best to just take it in, until you graduate...

Cuz when you do graduate... thats the slap in the face that you should give them. Don't complain about their attitude or anything... Just know that you pay their salary, and that when you graduate they'll know that they didn't make you budge.

hehehehe.... ;)

Are you studying to become a teacher?

DimHalo 03-31-2004 04:05 PM

yes, secondary education (preferably middle school) french and math

Badass.

My cousin in California is studying to do the same.

If I were to become a teacher I'd probably do high school, but the good high schools, not the troublesome ones that I've been to.

I've always been a fan of the second one...you have a guest room right next door and what looks like some series SLIDE action with the W and the Y nearby.

And as for teachers...their jobs, IMO, is to give the student the absolute best opportunity to learn and acheive. Not just churn out info...IMPROVE your students. I would be a teacher that my students would hopefully joke with and talk to about sports and stuff, while maintaining that student/teacher respect by working hard.

sounds like you would make a good teacher. that's kind of how I want to be, once I get past the whole intimidation factor

You have the perfect attitude...good to hear in aspiring teachers. I've had a couple teachers in my day that actually changed me as a person for the better...that's the way it should be. +rep

Re: What gives teachers the right?

ya, i think teachers play a strong role in the way people act. I had this one teacher who was the best, because he was funny, so therefor the learning in that class was fun. If your going to be a teacher, dont be one of those monotonous teachers who make you take notes all day long. Then the kids dont learn anything at all...Just make it fun. For the sake of the kids.

I always like to point out to them that they're not allowed to smoke inside university buildings. :D

One time I said that to some kind of professor and he was like yeah you're right" while some other teachers that walked with him looked at me in awe. "He dares to speak up to our master!!!"
:)

I would be an awful teacher, there would be no shame in my class... Grades will be announced out loud every 3 weeks. (and if a student is getting an F I will allow the rest of the class to laugh at him/her... just incentive to do good) :) ;)
