Special Annoucement: Homepage returning

*** PLEASE SEND ALL ARTICLES TO GameTavernNews@hotmail.com ***

This time it's for real, we will soon have a functioning homepage. The format will be different in that we won't have separate sections for news and previews on each console. Instead we will feature editorials on various gaming related topics. Formal reviews will be included too, but the focus will be on the opinion articles.

We're still determining whether or not we are going to use a flashy pre-made template (which costs money) or use a vb portal system. The portal system integrates the homepage directly into the forums. No designing is needed since the templates are already there. Whatever style we use for the forums should carry over.

Now Dyne has graciously agreed to let us harvest his internal organs to pay for the template. I told him that wasn't necessary but he has insisted on the extraction of at least one kidney. If something doesn't work out or if Dyne does not survive the procedure we will probably go with the portal.

In the meantime we need to collect content to post to the homepage. We will not have a formal writing staff; instead we will accept submissions from everyone. I know there are reviews and formal articles floating around here from previous attempts at making a page. Thanks for your help in this.

Yay! The Return of Homepage! :)

Is there a specific grand opening date?

Can we write on the topic of our choice? Or are there certain issues you would like people to tackle?

I won't tell you what to write on - I may have suggestions some of the time.

I'm going to get all my reviews and editorials from GamingNow.

And a quick note from me. NO PLAGIARISM (ie: Dont just copy and paste other views and call it your original)

Re: Special Annoucement: Homepage returning

Ok, I have a question.

I have all my old GamingNow reviews and editorials saved on my harddrive. When I typed them, I typed them using html code. Should I submit them like this, or would it be easier for me to go through and remove the coding, and just alter the text using word features, like "italics" instead of ""?

Neo 03-06-2004 12:42 AM

Re: Special Annoucement: Homepage returning

You should probably use the forum codes "[] [/]" instead of html. It's looking like we'll be going with the portal system for the time being, but ask Dyne to be sure.

Dyne 03-06-2004 01:24 AM

Re: Special Annoucement: Homepage returning

We're not running HTML on these forums-- I think because it's a portal and we're going straight through vB itself.. that the vB rules will apply. Any images too, use [IMG] tags; you know, standard procedures. For the portal, it's all going to be literally attached to vB, where we post in secret forums and it shows up on the front page. I had it going with my old site for a while.

But yeah, anticipate the portal. It's so easy to change it to HTML anyways afterwards.

Alright we need those submissions... Can't launch a site w/o content. Send everything to gametavernnews@hotmail.com. We mainly need opinion topics on any videogame-related issue, though we can use reviews too.

I submitted one review and one editorial just a few minutes ago. The review was called "state of nintendo", and the review was over Metroid Prime.

I forgot to put my username on it, so it has my real name, Zachary Wright. You can add "aka Vampyr" onto it if you want.

I did a retrospective on the whole Mario Bros. 3 in 11 minutes video scandal for a friend's magazine. Any interest in that for the page?

I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about.

Re: Special Annoucement: Homepage returning

Alrighty, we could use some additional submissions as we have very few. This is your chance to tell the world your opinions. Yes, millions across globe will have access to your writings. :D Of course they have to visit the site first, but that's just a small technicality. And how can you go on with the knowledge that you could die tomorrow without having first written a treatise comparing & contrasting the 99 lives trick on level 3-1 of SMB with the role the Visigoths played in the overthrow of ancient Rome? It's sick I tell you. Act now, before it is too late.

I just wish I could think of something video game related to write about.

The new page is up and running so if you like Vamp you can post the news yourself in the Editorials/Reviews forum which I'll give you access too. It will show up automatically on the homepage. I posted a couple threads for you which is why my avatar appears for some.

As an afterthought I've granted an additional privilege to P4 Platinum members - the ability to post articles on the homepage w/o prior permission.

Ok, thanks Neo. And the new page is pretty suave. I've never seen another site quite like it. Do you want me to go ahead and post those four reviews I sent you the other day myself? I can do it right now if you want, it wouldnt take very long.

'nother enhancement - Dyne has moved the reputation pips below the post count instead of next to them. Looks cleaner that way wouldn't you say?

I just installed the Arcade and put up a new logo. However, permissions are all wonky, so you won't be able to play in the arcade--yet. I'm looking to fix it tomorrow after I get some sleep tonight; I can't seem to find the problem right now.
