Its a pretty good list IMO. The Beatles definately owned it.

EDIT: There was one thing I disagree with right off the bat. I don't think nevermind - nirvanan should be on their. I think in utero was their best album...

Sorry, that list is terrible, sure alot of the stuff on there is correct and deserves to be there, but the order in which they are put in is appauling. And some of the albums on there just DON'T deserve to be there.

For a start, Jimi's best album was electric ladyland, everyone knows that! And
Revolver was The Beatles best album... (IMO)
And one of the biggest mistakes is not putting Jeff Buckley's Grace in the top 100.....

Glad they put U2's old stuff there, but where the hell is Sound Garden's A-Sides? Pearl Jam's Ten should have been much higher, atleast a place next to Nevermind, and much further away from Eminem!

In any order are all way, way better.

There are two different bands called "The Beatles" Imo. There's the real beatles IE: on drugs and making good music, and then there's the early 60's sucky pop crap beatles.

I used to own Born in the U.S.A. on tape but i wore it out from listening to it too much.

I can't believe Alanis Morisette is on there. I sold that cd away because I was embarassed to have it.

If this list was made about a year or two in the future, I'm pretty sure The Strokes wouldn't be on there. Just a fad band.

And Eminem only gets to be on there because of all the controversy he stirred up and because if he wasn't, RS would lose all their readers.

I disagree

The Beatles were great in both eras...and they evolved music in each era, too...which makes me sad they broke up.

are all great IMO. but I also love songs like While My Guitar Gently Weeps and A Day in the Life. So I get the best of both worlds :)

I haven't read the whole list... just the first 100 but so far looks like a pretty good list. While I agree that some might think that the order is a little off, this list is not based on the minority opinion, so keep that in mind.

PS: I'm happy to see Billy Joel and The Clash and the 70's bands like SEx Pistols and the Doors on the first page. They had a lot of talent (even if I don't listen to the music that much)

I agree with Stonecutter on this, I loved those 5 albums the most too. Magical Mystery Tour and The White Album would come next. I also agree with Shadow Link that they didn't order these very well, but..I mean come on Tommy at 96?! But after looking at the whole list I realized that you can't really make a best 500 albums list in a particular order, most of the albums on there are great, and it's all based off opinion. They should just call it the best 500 albums ever, instead of listing them in order from best to worst.

Ya she was! I have no idea how. Sure its a good cd but I was shocked. I think that poll was an online one though, the kind just random visitors to the site go and vote for. It wasn't like a bunch of mtv editors got around and decided or something...

And Nirvana and/or Kurt Cobain was on practically every list they had. They were chosen as the Greatest Band of all time....I like Nirvana, but I dont think I would rank them that high. Probably in the top 10, or at least 20, because they are an awesome band.

Lists in general are fairly useless...Not may people are ever going to agree on them, but that's precisely why lists are so popular. We can agree with them, we can disagree with them, and argue about them, etc...It will also fill up Rolling Stone's letter section next issue, which is good for them. I would have liked to see more albums that I liked on the list, but whatever.

Another nauseatingly predictable list from Rolling Stone, but, should anyone be surprised?

1. Their hip-hop/rap choices are hillarious, almost random.

2. Nevermind at #17? Didn't Nirvana get an undeserved nod in that 100 top guitarists list, too?

3. The Wall absolutely deserves a top fifty placing, if not top twenty.

4. Indie Rock? Even if you're not a fan of the genre, their damn sure should be some great bands on the list.

5. Led Zeppelin's IV was really low, this makes no sense to me at all.

Now, I understand I'm hard to please, hell, anyone is with a list of 500 bands/albums, but this is just terrible. They could've done a much better job.

I would hope that, if the entire staff were to have reviewed their list and provided their input on its oversights, there would have been fewer oversights. Its clear this was not the case and it was the doings of a "select few." (for lack of a better term)

Understand when reading this, that I am someone who owns not only two pink floyd T-Shirts, but also a Dark Side of the Moon tie, and a dozen or so floyd albums.

The Wall, while a great album, is not top 20 or top 50 material. Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here are both better albums, and I'd be tempted to say that Meddle is better aswell. There's no way you're going to put 4 albums by one band not named "the beatles" in any top whatever list.

Top 100 or 200, fine, not top 50.

First of all Jagged Little Pill was a very provocative album. No one had ever seen that kind of heart and soul poured out into an album. It's good the whole way through.

Next Eminem opened up areas in rap unopen to us white folk. He's one of the greatest performers ever. He's up there with Elvis and The Beatles. Not to mention the intelligence level of his rap. He's a rapping and rhyming fool. He can spin it better than most African-American rappers.

As for the Strokes... They have done some different things with their music. But I agree that they are sorta a fad band.

Vampyr... Those weren't the top 22 of all time, they were the top 22 of the last 2 decades. Otherwise the beatles, elvis, and nirvana would have been the top three in everything.

Whoa I've looked over this list about 3 times now and maybe I'm retarted but I didn't see L.A. Woman by The Doors anywhere on here? Whoa!

Makes sense to me. For the most part, I seem to overrate The Wall, so I expected a reply like this. I can't put my finger on it, but I just love The Wall so much more then the other albums, although I still love them all.

So yeah the doors were on there I was talking about the album L.A. Woman it's their big album. I just didn't see it anywhere.
