Nintendo iQue Player Spotted

From Gamespot...

Nintendo iQue Player spotted

Nintendo's new console for the Chinese market has been unveiled--ahead of its likely year-end release.

See it » When Nintendo announced its intention to release a specially-designed iQue Player game console in China back in September all we were told was that it would allow players to download games to a flash-memory card at stores, that it would run games originally designed for the SNES and Nintendo 64 consoles, and that it would retail for the equivalent of US$60. Specialist retailer Lik-Sang has today updated its Web site not only with the first images of the iQue Player, but also with some new information on the console which, having missed its original mid-October launch, currently has no official release date.

The iQue Player uses similar nano-technology to that used in Sony's upcoming PSX and, according to Nintendo, will be the first gaming device with such technology to be released--suggesting that iQue will arrive in stores in time for Christmas, given that the PSX is scheduled to ship in December. Lik-Sang also reports that the console comes with five games already on its 64-megabyte flash-memory card--the full version of Doctor Mario, and number of time-limited demos including: a 10-hour demo of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a seven-hour demo of Mario 64, and one-hour demos of both Wave Race and Star Fox.

Lik-Sang goes on to suggest that a release outside of China for the iQue Player seems likely, although this has not been confirmed at this time. We'll bring you more information on the iQue Player as soon as it becomes available.

Sweet, I'll be sure to get one!.....

I'm sure it would be cool if I lived in China, but I don't....

Still a nice concept though.

One question...how the hell does this thing connect to your television?

...yay, a Dreamcast controller!

Or an XBox controller missing an analog stick.

Probably with the same cable that transmits the Gamecube's image to your TV, the one that has a red, yellow, and white input jacks.

There aren't enough sharp edges to cut your hands with for that to be an Xbox controller.

Hm... I never saw it as something that non-Chinese would get... but I gotta admit, it looks nice.
The D-pad is interesting, I wonder if it's comfy. We might see it on the N5 if it's good.

No pic of the shoulder buttons yet?

If you dont live in china it may be hard to play this. Chinese retailers will have to program the game into the flash card that fits in the controller, thats the only way to get the games.

A nice thing to add to a collection though. Its pretty cheap, and you can play many SNES/N64 games and new game for it.

It looks pretty neat. Doubt if I would get one if it was available though... my hands are too small for the controller.

Oh yeah our slave has a point there... chinese hand are WAY smaller than ours... :p Hm I'll stick to my SNES/N64.

Oh, question: when they say 'Star Fox', you think they mean the SNES or N64 version??

I think Microsoft and Nintendo should have a contest to see who can make the worst controller. Looks pretty even right now.

Nintendo needs to stop wasting time by making crap like that, and start putting out more games. I hope to DOG that isn't the surprise that nintendo has for us at E3...

They are taking advantage of an untapped market. Plus, its not a piece of crap. Giving the Chinese a chance to play some of the greatest/most memborable games ever (legally that is) is great.

Both would have to give credit to Sega for inspiring them. ;)

Why? Companies love to go into regions no one else has because they can gain the most out of it.

Although that statement may sound good written down, there are plenty of times that companies have gone "into regions no one else has" and tanked because of it. I just think it's a stupid idea in my opinion, and the controller is butt ugly. They need to put their resources in creating another game boy that can compete with the technology of these other hand held gaming systems, in my opinion. Not waste it on another device that may sound good, but will probobly tank. I smell a "virtual boy" in the making...

The point is that the iQue doen'st cost much. They already have the games and they can make big profits in China.

They'll spend enough money on their next machines.

Why release a Game Boy in China? It's been pirated so much that it would be useless to release a "legit" GameBoy into a country where its been pirated/torn apart so much. So releasing something new and never seen before sparks interest in people on what it does and whether they want it or not.
