How are your grades so far?

Most people should be getting their mid-term marks right around now...so I figured maybe some people would like to share/rant about how they're doing, grade-wise.

my marks are 82, 84 and 88...poor attendance and procrastination/lack of effort all around, too :p

Re: How are your grades so far?

My only academic classes this year are Government/Econ and English. My other 4 classes are all electives. I have A's in the electives, C- in Government/Econ and a D+ in English. I don't care, as long as I pass the classes that's all that matters.

They're probably only taking 3 classes.

3 seperate grades = 3 seperate classes.

If they were taking 5 classes, they'd have 5 grades. And so forth...

Re: How are your grades so far?

Well I'm in high school, I have block scheduling, so I have 5 classes right now.

Spanish 4 - 95
Chemistry - ..85
Math Analysis(pre calc) - I believe an 88 or an 89
Gym - some A, not sure of the number grade
SAT prep - 95

That's unfair :(

For the past three years I've had to take seven classes and this year I'm taking six. And you guys only have to take three! You must be at school for only three hours then. Shucks.

Re: How are your grades so far?

I'm taking five credit hours but only the lower level grades are reported at midterm, i have an idea of my other grades though:
Foundations of Mathematics/Proof Theory - worse than I would like
Intro to Linguistics: 96%
American National Government: 82%
French Literature Topics, Francophone Women Writers: B, don't know percentage
JINS, Music in Religious Thought and Practice: A, don't know percentage

So far:
Chemistry - 83
Accounting - 84
Computer Science - don't know exact mark, somewhere in the 80s
English - low 70s/high 60s... not sure of the exact mark, but I hate that class.

Next semester I have Biology, Physics, World Religions and Math.

I got my midterms a week or so ago, and for some reason our grade cards dont tell us our exact percentage, just a letter grade.

Health/Pe: A+
English: A
World History: A+
AP Probability and Statistics: A

Stu and I are in grade 12... In grades 9, 10 and 11, I had to take 8 classes per year (4 classes each semester).. But in grade 12, you can only take 6 courses if you want to, and I chose to.

Every other week I am finished school at 1:15... And get home like at 1:30.. yep. It is great.

Re: How are your grades so far?

I have no grades, suckers! For the first time in 15 years I'm not in any sort of school...Come to think of it, even I was in college I wouldn't be getting grades, we just get evaluations at Bennington, so no more grades ever I suppose.

That's different. I'm in grade 12 also but we take as many as 7 classes (max) or as little as 5 classes (min). And we take all the classes all year. We don't take a certain number of them one semester and then do a new batch the second semester. But in grades 9, 10, and 11 we take seven classes.

I'm only doing 6 this year. I get out of school at 2:10! It feels like elementary school again! Yippee skippy! :)

Re: How are your grades so far?

3 grades for 3 courses. One of my buddies (he's a year older) is only taking 2 courses, the school is letting him because he has enough credits to Graduate, he just wants to boost his marks in a couple courses.

How long are each of your courses? Mine are 80 minutes...

And I don't even know if I'm gonna graduate this year...I probably won't. But in either case, I still can be eligible to go to University, diploma or not. It's a loophole that works like this:

-18+ years of age (which I will be before next school year)
-Scholarship
-Good enough grades in basic subjects like English and Math (I always get 80-90 in English, and 90+ in Math)

So yeah...that's why I'm taking 3 courses. 4 is a full schedule in Ontario.

80 minute classes! :eek:

I couldn't sit in a class for that long, lol.

Our classes are only 50 minutes and that's bad enough.

That explains the difference in schedule...and you're probably going to have to sit through classes longer than 80 minutes if you're going to University...yep

The highest you can have is a 4.0, unless your taking AP (Advanced Placement) classes, in which each grade is worth one more point than a normal grade of that letter.

For example, my GPA is 4.25, because Im taking an AP class, and I have an A in it, but how do you have a 12?????

GPA scales are different everywhere.

At the college I'm going to right now, the GPA scale is out of 4.0. Last year it was out of 9.0. Other places will be different, it just depends on the school.

English - 80 (B)
Biology - 80 (B)
Health - 93 (A)

I'm rather disappointed with my grades right. My GPA is only a 3.27 :(. But... I just stopped caring.

Overall GPA of 12. :guitar:

My school was forced to go to a 12 points grading system because the competition for valid victorian was so tight. This is how it works out:

12 = A+
11 = A
10 = A-
9 = B+
8 = B
7 = B-
etc.

It's harder than a 4.0 GPA scale... the ranges are something like:

A+ = 100-98
A = 97-95
A- = 94-93
B+ = 92-91

It also sucks because Honors classes are graded the same way as normal classes are...

EDIT: on my scale Jason wouldn't have a 12, I suppose on his he does though.

Heh, dude, its one word: valedictorian. heh.

And anyway, when the race is really close like that at our school, they just let them tie and we have more than one valedictorian.

PureEvil 11-10-2003 08:15 PM

Re: How are your grades so far?

Yes, Vampyr is correct about the name.

Having more than one is kind of weird though.

valedictorian (n)
:the student usually having the highest rank in a graduating class who delivers the valedictory address at the commencement exercises

(From Merriam-Webster OnLine dictionary)

I believe it's always been just one student anywhere I've gone. Meh.

I think normal kids should give the graduation speeches because they better represent their class wheras the strange 4.0+ kids who "compete" for the role are outcasts ostracized by the fellow peers for being so obsessed with school.

I agree...

I mean, the smartest people I've ever met didn't get the BEST grades in school...the people most dedicated and focused on SCHOOLWORK are the ones who got the highest grades.

If I worked my ass off on schoolwork, I'd probably raise my average 5-7%. But I'd have a LOT less free time, I'd probably be miserable, would have to cut down on my hobbies like gaming/sporting/socializing/TV/movies. Not even CLOSE to being worth it.

85% average (when I know I can raise it a bit) is more than fine with me when I'm having fun.
