Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

You ever hear those rumors about a FFVII-2 in the vein of FFX-2? Guess what; they were true... Kind of.

Square-Enix is making a sequel to FFVII, but its not a game like you would think. Its a straight to DVD CG movie called Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

There's nothing on the story so far. But there are several screenshots containg Cloud and Sephiroth.

Sephiroth looks...wierd to me....

Oh yeah...

What's with the short hair? He looks like a chick...

I think Cloud looks to real... if you know what I mean...

Eek! Its Aeris's church!

Cloud, dressed as Auron, looks on at the ruins of Midgar.

I don't know. I don't like the style... Sephiroth looks wierd and Cloud looks to real. The shots of the church and Midgar are neat though.

I personally have high hopes for this. I thought a lot of the reason the Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was so disappointing was because it wasn't FF enough. Since this is based off of the world of a FF game, I don't see how Square could mess it up too badly...

I love you(in a non sexual way) + rep for posting the pics..the second one is so going on my desktop.
and they do look a little off but.... FFVll RULES.:)

DeathsHand 10-04-2003 12:20 AM

Yeah, FFVII's style was sorta not very detailed and anime-ish, now this is all realistic... I think it looks pretty neat...

Too bad it's not a game... I woulda prefered a game to a movie if they did anything... I never thought I sequel to FFVII would be bad in any way... Infact just seeing those screenshots makes me want another game set in the FFVII universe so much...

Re: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

This is a stupid idea :P I would rather have a game.. And is this a sequel or a movie based on FF7?

Ginkasa 10-04-2003 12:29 AM

This is a sequel to FFVII.

Re: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

If any FF movie were to have come into the theaters, it should have been something like this, not that Spirits Within attempt. Maybe you did, but I didn't like that movie.

The only thing is that they kind of look weird now. Like the faces don't match all the prior FFVII character drawings.

The first shot of Sephiroth looks like he belongs in some kind of RE game.

Gamespot has more info on the movie.

FFVII: Advent Children Info

According to them, the short haired guy is not Sephiroth but instead is a brand new character. I don't know... Maybe a re-incarnation?

It also says that this takes place two years after FFVII in a more or less peaceful world except for a physcial illness called Seikon-Shoukougun. Cloud is living alone apparently, so no word if Tifa and co. will show up or how big a role they will play...

Re: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

Word from Square is that the person in the trailer who resembles Sephiroth is another clone, like Cloud. Of course it'll probly be more in depth than that.

And the person in the wheelchair is apparently Jenova or some kind of Jenova reincarnation.

Also most of the characters from the game will be returning in this movie, including a few characters which Square deems "will make you wonder why in the heck they are there".

And personally, I like the fact that its more real now. I never really did like cloud's super deformed anime design.

Ginkasa 10-04-2003 03:37 PM

Well, I never liked the SD characters during the actual game either. But I see no reason why they should change the look of this movie so much from the style of FFVII's FMVs.

*shrugs and walks away*

Because the style of FFVII's FMVs is over 6 years old? If they had today's technology back then, I'm sure the game would look something like Advent Children.

FFVII GAME

FFVII MOVIE

I suppose it's a matter of opinion, but I'm all for the AD design.

I've never played FFVII :-o but I plan on doing so. :D
I forgot about Cloud being a clone of Sephiroth... but I don't blame you for spoiling it, every gamer should have played the game by now. :)

The movie looks promising!! Imagine how much you will recognize from the game! :D

DeathsHand 10-05-2003 01:14 AM

Oh yeah, not exactly on topic, but I think this pretty much proves that at the end of FFVII, not everybody died... I remember people saying that's what happened... But I never remember there being ANY evidence of that, but people kept saying that's what happened that's what happened... But if this takes place 2 years after, and you see Cloud and such, I think it's pretty obvious that's not the case :p

Happydude 10-05-2003 09:22 AM

how did the people that said everyone died think so?

*spoiler for Canyarion*

you see the meteor not reach the ground to make a impact, it's held back by the spirit thingy...

*end spoiler*

Ginkasa 10-05-2003 11:39 AM

Everybody in the game was talking about how Holy might destroy all the humans as well as Meteor because it might perceive humans as a threat to the planet. It never really says in game whether Holy kills the humans or not. I think most people just assumed that Holy did judging from the very very end with Red XIII, seeing as there are no humans around.

not only is there no evidence for it, but rather evidence against it as Ginkasa said. I wonder whether the whole "ancients" angle will have any role in this movie...god....i'm getting tickets like 3 months in advance, i AM NOT missing this....ok ok....cool down.....*jumps out window*

There is a possibility that the movie is a prologue of sorts for an actual game sequel.

Ginkasa 10-05-2003 07:50 PM

Yeah, but that scenario is very very unlikely. Its best to stop now before you inadvertantly start some massive rumor or something that won't go away -_-

what would be really nice, is if they remake FF7, graphic-wise, and then make advent children into a game and put them together. that would sell like crazy!

It's what I heard, that's all. A Square rep mentioned it at TGS.

A Square rep also mentioned that if the current hardware was unable of supporting the original FFVII game, they would consider a remake. So basically, if PS3 doesn't support PSone game playback, then you may see an FFVII remake. Otherwise, not likely.

Also, take into consideration that if they screw this up, Sqaure would receive MASSIVE (and boy do I mean MASSIVE) hatred from the millions of FFVII fans expecting to see the perfect, amazing, FFVII story continuation. Which is also a main reason why they don't really want to make a video game sequel, cause if it sucks, game over, one of the most cherished games in history has been soiled. So lets hope they get this right, even if it is only a movie.

*shrugs and walks away*

I didn't think the end-scene with Red XIII pointed to all humans were dead... Didn't it say like 500 years later or something before that scene (meaning Red XIII was the only FFVII character still living)? I thought the reason it was there was to show Midgar all abandoned and overgrown... Saying that it's been that long since Meteor ravaged the city, and after the whole ordeal there's no more Shinra, there's no more Midgar... No more city killing the planet and it's been 500 years (or however long it said) and they still havn't rebuilt... So yay the planet is happy...

Or whatever...

I think if you let something completely new destroy something that's already great to you, you've got problems...

I'm just predicting that Square is pulling a Disney by making a crappy sequel so the fans will buy it.

I thought the story was great enough. Also, didn't Holy wipe out all of humanity?

Read the whole topic... some people have mentioned that...

When I played FFVII, I never saw any evidence saying that Holy wiped out humanity... People said "ooo it wiped out humanity, blah blah blah, and it's proven when in the future, Red XIII looks at Midgar and there are no humans", but no, what it proves is that Midgar was just abandoned and stopped sucking the life out of the planet after it was ravaged by Meteor and Shinra fell...

That's what I always thought that scene was meant to show... Then when I went to messageboards people talked about how it destroyed humanity and I was like "What!? o.O" and this sequel proves that wasn't the case...
