RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
heh.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,96797,00.html yup. this makes the RIAA look much better. altho i dont think anything will come of it, because she's underage and all. Possibly might sue the parrents instead. which makes me wonder now. how the hell did they get her name? the ISP would be under her parents name anyway. :hmm: ah well. |
Re: RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
maybe she registered as a user under her name on kazaa or something.
anyway, the RIAA are stupid, instead of closing off kazaa and other file sharing programs and FTPs and a sh*t load more stuff...they aim for the individuals who are just using the programs and have no idea that it's even ilegal. the RIAA will never win because one way or another music will always be stolen no matter what, it could even be someone buying a CD and burning it for 10 of his friends which burn it for 10 of their friends and so on. same with games, but most modern games have copy protection no the CD so it can't be burnt, although programs exist to crack the CDs. all i'm saying is that the RIAA doesn't see the big picture: it can not stop music from being copied/downloaded or anything else. you can even get music from your TV...just record a clip on DVD and your done...more ilegal music. ohh well...i hardly download any music anymore anyways, i got all i need and dont have time to listen to even that. so i could care less. |
Re: Re: RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
actually they cant shut down a lot of thoes programs. that is the reason why they are now going after individuals.
They already lost the battle over thoes programs. this is thier plan B |
Did anybody read this?

Re: RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
well it says the media showed up at thier house. so i would assume there is a little girl.
but it says they paid like $30 for thier kazaa. never seen that scam before. if its true they paid that. kinda sucks for them cuz they were tricked. |
Yeah, this is really stupid.
And I think a 12 year old girl would say something like that. My brother is 12, and he would say something like that, and hes not even smart. I really dont think the RIAA should even be able to get peoples names from their ISP. Thats a little invading. |
Re: RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
Screw the RIAA. I am boycotting purchasing CD's and other mediums supported by the company.
Ha..if the majority of P2P users boycott RIAA goods,,,then they will have a real reason to cry about there sales! So boycott the RIAA |
Re: Re: RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
Yeah, I can't understand either how or why they paid $30 for it. Either they are trying to horribly lie their way out of the lawsuit or they got scammed.
But oh well, people need to figure out that KaZaa Lite is the one to use. At least it can block ip ranges of companies who search for share'rs and can keep your ip address from being shown. |

Re: Re: Re: RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
not that i know of...but im in canada, aybe they're not goin for us canadias :)
|
And now its settled.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,96890,00.html $2000, $2 per song. Which im not sure about, I think they shoulda talked to thier lawyer first, because im still not sure about this sueing a 12 year old thing and if they really coulda won it. |
Re: RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
....the vorizon president and the other guy are funny :)
|
When the girl downloaded the songs, did she even know that they were illegal?
|
Re: RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
honestly a 12 year old girl isnt going to know the law that well. she might of known they were wrong. but then again she might of just thought it was the internet.
From the sounds of it, they got scammed into paying for the free file sharing program and thought since they paid it was a legal version. like some of the pay sites. (itunes for example) |
Re: Re: RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
Well some 12 year olds have quite a grasp on the law and legal system. My little brother knows better than to download music. But still they shouldn't be able to sue for $2 a song. Thats outrageous. I mean if the cd only contained 10 songs it would still be like $14 - $18 dollars. I mean they should break it down to like every ten songs and rate it like that.
|
Re: Re: Re: RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
im not saying she did or didnt. but most, kids around that age dont fully grasp the legal concept in its intirety.
And they didnt sue for $2 a song. That was a settlement. From what i read they're sueing for a LOT more then that per song. i read in the thousands dollar range. |
Re: Re: Re: Re: RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
I guess the RIAA wanted to try to keep them from looking to harsh on the wee ones. But what respect they have isn't there:D

Hmm... That be a hella lot of money for just downloading music. When will they ever give up ?
|
The RIAA sues little girls for $2 a song when they price 30 cent CDs for 60 times that amount. Very noble.

yes, she (or actuall more like the whole family) had 1000 songs. All 261 people the RIAA sued had over 1000 songs for others to download from them. |

Music firms have paid the entire fine for the 12 year old girl. it sounds like many people have chipped in and helped pay it for them. Thats nice. :) |
That's cool...I know a similar thing happened earlier when a college student was sued by the RIAA for $12,000 and friendly people ended up giving him all the money back.
|
Re: RIAA sueing 12 year old girl.
The musicians piss me off. They or should I say one musician is going to make a song on the mentality of the file sharers.
In a new song, "Something for Nothing," Mr. Wainwright makes fun of the mentality of file sharers, singing: "It's O.K. to steal, cuz it's so nice to share." They make me sick. |

its just to get attention. Actually most Artists dont even care. the musicians themselves make VERY LITTLE off cd sales. http://www.bidclix.net/ads/79.html?c...&forced_click= Quote:

Further more most of the music artists themselves dont like what the RIAA is doing. (they may not believe in filesharing) but they surly dont like the RIAA going around and sueing THIER fans. thats not good for any musician if thier fans get sued. There was a nice little thing on CNN about it the other night, even CNN says the RIAA wont win, and eventually they will have to use filesharing to help them, instead of fighting it. |
