Madden 2004: How it differs

Well, some of the details were known, but this is taken from the interview at IGN.

On PS2:

Quote:

On the PS2 side we haven't spared any expense for the online experience. Last year we had a real stable game online out there, but this year it's even that much better. We're going to make it a better experience by getting rid of cheaters and cheese play and have added the ability to use USB voice chat. We'll also have Tournament mode and Messenger to add to the experience.
On the Cube:

Quote:

The Cube has the Gameboy advance connectivity that's pretty cool. There are actually two levels of connectivity. One, when you just plug your GBA in, and one when you plug in your GBA with Madden GBA in it. This will enable you to unlock exclusive content depending on whether or not you have the cartridge plugged in. There are some hidden teams, special Madden cards, and things like that. We also have this play assist thing on at all times so when the GameCube is connected to the GBA you're getting a lot of extra information on the screen like what plays you should call and things like that.
On the Xbox

Quote:

But Xbox has some great things, too, as we take advantage of the hard drive, we take advantage of the machine's power and texture memory, and it's just a beautiful game on the Xbox. Out of the three, I think the Xbox version looks the best. We also have soundtrack support on Xbox, so you can rip your own songs and drop those into Madden as well. The Xbox and Cube are also 480P, but not the PS2.

I'm hella-looking forward to this game.

Won't be long now.

Re: Madden 2004: How it differs

Soundtrack support is good for Madden. 2003's songs were too few and got annoying after awhile. I bet these "special" cards and "special" teams unlockable in the 'Cube version with the GBA are probably still unlockable in the other 2 versions.

Quote:

IGN: Are those hidden teams also available on the PS2 and Xbox, but just obviously unlocked in some other fashion?

Jeremy Strausser: No, they're exclusive for GameCube. We did some exclusive things for Nintendo.
That's according to the interview.

I'm hoping EB has some copies in today. This game will consume a large portion of my life.

I will get it on the 11th.. but I sent in my PS2 to get fixed.. So I won't play it until the end of August.

Thank you stu. That cheered me up!

lol.

And I am not sure if I am still gonna get Madden. I mean, I rented 2003 a couple of months ago, and I really sucked at it. And sucking at games is frustrating.

It's out on the 11th? Nice. I was thinking it came out on the 14th for some reason.

Uh, what about, like... Putting it on an easier difficulty setting thing?

Re: Madden 2004: How it differs

It was supposed to be on the 14.. but now 11!

And yeah.. might try that.. lol.. I just played the game without resetting the options.

Re: Madden 2004: How it differs

chosing between the Ps2 and Xbox version was HARD... but being able to get the real rosters in NCAA and having online play in both Madden and NCAA made me go with the Ps2 versions.

I have yet to reserve Madden though... hopfully I can get on release without many problems.

well damn. you didnt even list the PC version. that rather hurts :(

it has the best of all 3 versions.......well, except the gba connectivity.

question for anyone whos maybe heard anything..... The PC and PS2 versions of FFXI can play together online...... any word on any of the EA sports games playin together online between PS2 and PC? be fun to play some of ya sometime.

Joeiss 08-09-2003 06:24 PM

Re: Re: Re: Madden 2004: How it differs

I doubt it. If it was, they we probably would be hearing alot of it!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Madden 2004: How it differs

well me thinks thats something they should try for 2005 then. cuz it woudl be cool

Jonbo298 08-09-2003 08:52 PM

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Madden 2004: How it differs

If EA actually put it online for the 'Cube also, it could do a 3 way thing. PC, PS2, and 'Cube players on the same servers. XBox people are out of the equation because of MS's closed servers.

Null 08-09-2003 09:17 PM

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Madden 2004: How it differs

lol. a nintendo game online? unlikely :P

but yea. it could be done between thoes 3, and it would be nice if they start doing that. would be a slight deterent from doing closed networks on future consoles.

Jonbo298 08-09-2003 09:19 PM

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Madden 2004: How it differs

If EA and Nintendo can ink a deal by 2004 (for Madden 2005) to where EA or Nintendo hosts the games, then it would be possible. Either that or a LAN setup with GameSpy handling the tunneling for online play.

Null 08-09-2003 09:29 PM

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Madden 2004: How it differs

usually for sports games online. one of the players hosts. they dont usually set up servers for online sports games

The PC version actually has a lot to offer as well. It has its own online offering, which is very different that the PS2 offering because its more PC focused with clubs and leagues. The game on the PC is more mouse-driven, we support the mouse wheel this year, we have right-clicking, and it's like a series of interactive web pages. The other thing we've added to the PC this year is the play editor, with its own PC interface. Out of all of the versions, the PC version might be the most powerful. The graphics are set to the highest end, it has all of the same features as the consoles including Owner mode and Playmaker control, and it's something that we're really proud of here. It doesn't get a whole lot of attention, but if you own a PC, you shouldn't overlook Madden.
There's the PC version.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Madden 2004: How it differs

mouse controls. lol. that would be strange. i use a PS2 controller myself.

cant imagin actually using a mouse to play a sport game.

I think sports games are generally MUCH better on consoles. Playing on my TV with digital sound and online play with voice chat, having a memory card to take to friends' houses etc. are all big bonuses.

Yes, Consoles are usually better for sports games. But the PC can still do all the things mentioned;) S Video or Component video out to TV from PC, digital sound from PC, online play and voice chat (too obvious), and either a floppy or cd-rw to store and restore your settings. *walks off wondering why I had to point out the obvious......*

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Madden 2004: How it differs

yes a PC version can do anything and everything a console version can. use any console controller it wishes. Can do it in MUCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Higher resolution and graphics. smoother, Much higher frame rate. nothin like lookin at the beauty of one of these games on a nice 1280x1024 resolution with a perfect frame rate. ;)

plus the extras consoles dont have. downloads, easily used roster updates, patches, upgrades, add your own music. example in hockey game. i can add my own collection of music that the game will play while play is stoped.
i can create my own teams. draw up my own team logo's and add them to the league.

and no need to save a game or stats or anything to a friends house. just email him and it'll be all set when ya get there. ;)

ahhh needless to say i'd MUCH rater have it on PC. Most do tend to love pc versions when giving them a chance. PC's just arent known for thoes types of games so everyone over looks em. but hey, its not for everyone.
as i said i'd just be happy with a way to play the pc vs console people on a sports game.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Madden 2004: How it differs

My PC setup doesn't have a TV out, digital sound or a headset. Even then, I'd more than likely still prefer the PS2 version.
