GamePro for Free

Thats crap!!! It asks you to fill out your country but at the bottom it says, "Note, only citizens of the U.S. are elligable to apply" or something to that extent. So, why doesn't it say that at the top and why does it ask you to fill out what country you're from. Shouldn't it say state instead?

I found that odd too but I tried it.

Got an email for that a few days ago. Ordered my GamePro, kinda odd they never ask for a state. Anyway, I'm leaving in 2 weeks, well before the first issue arrives, and I have no intention of reading any issue after it. It's kinda like the free Computer Gaming World subscription I have, also through FilePlanet, I've never read one.

That is a little strange, but as long as they have your zipcode then they have enough information to send something to you. I know cuz my dad works at the post office.

BreakABone 07-30-2003 01:00 PM

Am I the only one who was asked for his state then?

BlueFire brought up the same issue to me yesterday, but mines ask for a state :uhh:

Don't care if the magazine sucks, it's free :D

Sorry to say, but only young teens at a Gaming forum would think as such. Free magazines are a sign of trouble. By signing up for free magazines, you'll - more likely than not - get pulled into a subscription. And, if you stop the subscription when they start charging you, you'll probably get loads of junk mail (hotmail style, but through the slug mail).

Free stuff is just a way to suck people in.

EDIT: OK, I went to the site to "investigate".

We like you. We really, really like you. That's why we've teamed up with our pals at GamePro Magazine to offer you a special gift: a complimentary 1-year subscription* to one of the most read video game magazines in America.

That's right -- NO COST. No hidden offers. No extra charges. No crazy direct e-mail sign ups. Just fill out the form below and we'll fill up your mailbox with GamePro**. There's only one catch -- the offer won't last forever. You've got to act now if you want to cash in.
*As I thought, it's a subscription. After the year, they're going to start trying to charge you. The only good thing is that you didn't have to give a credit card number just to sign up. But... I'm sure they'll find a way to corner you into paying for at least one month after that year. And from there, they can charge you without you asking for the magazine.

**Heheh, that's not all they're going to fill your mailbox with come the 1-month mark, methinks. Though, they may wait out the whole year.

People who sign up, lemme know what happens.

gekko 07-30-2003 02:55 PM

Re: GamePro for Free

Well I have yet to see any public link offering this subscription. FilePlanet members were sent the link, and as a subscriber, they offer the free subscription.

And after a year, you don't have to pay a thing. Unless you choose to renew, they have no way to charge you money. Usually free subscriptions are free for a year, and if you don't cancel they will renew it for you. In this case, they can't do anything.

Jason1 07-30-2003 06:16 PM

There's NO WAY POSSIBLE they could make you pay if you havent given them a credit card #. And they cant bill you because you havent actually subscribed for anything more than that free year. If they do, it would be aginst the law im sure.

What's so bad about GamePro? I read a couple that a friend brought on a trip, I thought they were just fine. Nothing special, but not bad.

I got my GamePro the other day. Came with an AOL 9.0 CD....Oh well, I need one anyways just in case AOL craps out on my computer and I have to reinstall.

But then again, my processor is fried so I can't do **** anyways.

Dyne 10-08-2003 06:51 PM

They're still giving away CD's? Wow.. I haven't seen those for ages.. :p

I use to have a stack of them. Then I burned it. :p

After I get a job and have some extra money laying around, I wanna buy a cheap, old microwave, take it out back, plug it in using multiple surge protectors. Then I want to stick in a **** load of AOL cd's, crank on the microwave and laugh evily as the microwave pops and burns. And if the microwave is ready to live through a second round, I'll throw in more crap until it ceases function.:D
