my pc keeps quitting games n stuff
 

yeah i dont know alot about how computers work and stuff but ever since i got this new graphics card and i try to play new games it just messes up in some way. like it just returns to the desktop or it gives me an error thingy
i think it might be to do with cooling or something
anyone know anything i can do?

the error message would help.

What graphics card is it? What OS r u using? Is the card plugged in?

If so it's probably not compatible with the AGP slot/motherboard ur using.

What are ur pc specs?

Basic things to do is check the website for latest drivers, and compatibility with the card. Also if u got XP, run a h/w compatibility report and it should point out some things.

Also u running Direct X? Which version?

and also name the game(s) it does it on

errr i dunno all i know is its a cheap ass geforce4 64mb ddr and 1.2 amd duron i think oh yeah and 256mb ram. i got it second hand. it does it on..... cnc generals, splinter cell, cnc red alert, the sims, operation flashpoint, and im sure theres more but i cant think of them right now
does that help?

i just remembered something else too ive got win98
and it somethings just freezes, sometimes gives me that blue screen thingy, and sometimes a fatal error message

gfx card might be faulty. i dont like second hand stuff for that reason.

goto the nvidia website, www.nvidia.com and grab the latest detonator drivers

i would just say reformat, and install XP...or just upgd to XP. them see how it works...

xp works better on a fresh install. sometimes problems carry over in an upgrade.

say your using WinME, and upgrade to XP, XP wont work good cuz its upgraded off the worst windows version ever. :P

i personally dont think it has anything to do with ur video card

just format ur comp, and ull be alright

The reason your having problems is because you yourself say you don't know a lot about computers and how they work, and then you gave yourself the alias Human Virus on these message boards. You're not a human virus and you never will be. Computers don't like arrogant kids who lie, if you want your machine to function properly, then change your name to something like Melvin or Soiled Pants, then it should start working correctly again.

Don't upgrade through the "upgrade option for XP".

I've had problems first hand whereby it brings up an error msg each time it starts looking for a dll file from a program I never knew existed. It makes more sense to start off fresh

I'm thinking XP is going to be complete **** on that Machine...

1.2 GHz proc. and 256MB of Ram. Oh man, that's going to be so slowwww... Thank god for 1 gig sticks of ram! Whoot!

:wtf:, uhhh, i'm running a PIII 866 on xp and it runs just fine thank you very much, and thats with 256 *SD*RAM not DDR, and it runs very smoothly, u just gotta know how to tak ecare of it.... I recommend upgrading to XP, much more advanced.... and the upgrade worries isn't an issue unless u have gator stuff and other spyware already installed, in which case its a pain in the a*s, so u might as well reformat

i have an old P2 400mhz computer in the corner that has 256MB of SD ram on it....... We use it as a server for the LAN sometimes.

but anywho. it has XP on that and runs perfectly also. XP doesnt require much. it only requires 128MB of ram.

Hmm.. thats harsh.. But human virus should be left for those with umm.. computer knowledge. But my advice for your computer is what I tell most people who call Earthlink Tech support install the computer explode button and push repeatedly

Please do shut up.

1) Try rebooting your PC, if you haven't already

2) Reinstall the card and make sure you have current drivers for it

3) Scan for viruses and spyware. Remove any you find

4) Defrag your PC. It will be in you Accessories section under Programs

5) Get XP. Professional if possible.

PCs run fine if you take care of them. Learning only a few maintenance techniques will keep your PC running like new for years regardless of what you do with it.
