Beer question

Ok just curious as to what just happened and i figure soemoen around here will probably be able to explain it
Ok.. first i put a warm beer in the freezer because well it was warm  then i forgot about it and came back a few hours later and put it in the fridge and it was still a liquid then when i took it out of the fridge about 20 minutes later as i was holding in my hand in my room it was slowly turning to slush/ice from top to bottom. Took about 30 seconds to do the whole thing....

Uhh.. its a light beer.. Corona  stupid light beer

Anyway.. uhh.. whats everyone around here fav type of beer? or alcoholic beverage?

Stonecutter 06-03-2003 11:30 PM

I....dunno, actually, I didn't think about it at all....

Beer.....ewww.

Now, Wine, on the other hand.

I prefer red wine and I like it dry.

GameMaster 06-04-2003 12:08 AM

I don't drink alcohol. It's bad for me.

One Winged Angel 06-04-2003 12:16 AM

I like beer... taste good

I like Wine... taste good

... Smirnoff is one of my favorites

ZeroCool51 06-04-2003 12:19 AM

I don't really like the taste of beer. Vodka is really good when you want to get wasted fast.:beerchug:

Mushlafa 06-04-2003 08:06 AM

I drink red wine like everyday
Nobody knows what happened to it tho?

Happydude 06-04-2003 12:05 PM

i don't drink...much...martini is my fav i would say.

gekko 06-04-2003 12:10 PM

MGD, yummy. Not picky when it comes to beer, but I hate Coors Light.

Professor S 06-04-2003 01:09 PM

This is what happened:

The contents were under pressure from the sealed can. The temperature of the beer was sufficient to freeze it, but the pressure inside the can was too much to allow the liquid to become a solid state. Once the can was opened and the pressure was released, the liquid as still below freezing and was now able to freeze. My guess is that is also wuld have bubbled up and overflowed as it slushified (if you didn't start drinking it immediately).

Beer cans tend to be stronger than soda cans, and will not break when frozen, unlike soda cans. Soda's will burst in the freezer to allow the liquid to expand and freeze.

Just call me Mr. Wizard. :D

Jason1 06-04-2003 02:28 PM

Eh...Ive only had like 3 or so kinds of alcohol...my fav out of them would have to be Captain Morgan, but im sure there is way better stuff out there.

Rndm_Perfection 06-04-2003 03:01 PM

I'm with Stoney C on this. Beer doesn't sound like a cup of tea. I'll just have to wait and see though.

*waits for stonecold to post on this topic* I'm sure he has something priceless to say on this.

marionette 06-04-2003 03:05 PM

I don't drink, so I couldn't tell you which one is my favorite

Professor S 06-04-2003 03:09 PM

My favorite beer is Yeungling, which is local brewery around The PA, NJ area, but they just opened a brewery in Florida.

Other than that I mainly drink Miller Lite when in clubs or just Vodka and Club.

Joeiss 06-04-2003 04:06 PM

Good old Molson Canadian always does the trick. I also like Rickard's Red... Good stuff.

Basically, all alcohol rocks.

Perfect Stu 06-04-2003 04:56 PM

I don't drink much, but I do enjoy a good glass of red/white/ice wine and my favourite beer is either 'Sol' (Mexican) or Sleeman's Dark. I prefer light beer, though, as a refreshment during hot summer days.

Jonbo298 06-04-2003 11:55 PM

I've still got 3 years before its legal for me:unsure:

The Germanator 06-05-2003 01:56 AM

Never really had much beer, don't think I ever will. I'm a fan of the occasional glass of wine or champagne if the mood is right though.

DeathsHand 06-05-2003 02:07 AM

I've never had beer... People I know say it tastes like piss...

I've only had a sip-o-wine which tasted eh... ok... and half a glass of rum and coke which tasted like nasty medicine...

I think drinking to get drunk is stuuuuupppiiiiiiiidddddddd :D :D :D

bobcat 06-05-2003 05:33 AM

And smoke weed is better. At least the liver repairs itself, lol.

Stu, light beers are for pussies.

Jonbo, only pussies wait to be of age to start drinking.

Moral of the post : Drink beer or you are a *****.

:)

BlueFire 06-05-2003 05:20 PM

The liver repairs itself to an extent.. :p I mean... that's if you're an alcoholic..
I'm gonna shut up now..

I tasted beer once. Tastes ****ty. Wine's cool though. It tastes pretty good.

bobcat 06-05-2003 06:00 PM

Your taste changes when you get older. When I was 16/17 I hated wine/beer, but nowadays @ 23, it's the best with certain foods.

Actually it is... At least when compared to drinking to get drunk (light drinking might not be as bad)... Unless you believe the crap that the government and anti-weed programs shove down your throats... "The average joint contains 4 times as much cancer causing tar as a cigarette"... True, but they forgot to mention that even a heavy pot smoker smokes a hell of a lot less weed than a heavy cig smoker smokes cigarettes... And most pot smokers don't use it heavily anyways... Then there are other half-truths, and straight out lies they have...

But for your information I only smoked weed 4 times then stopped because I didn't see the point to it...

Mushlafa 06-05-2003 09:20 PM

Smoked weed like maybe 15 times tops... been about 2 months since i have... i dont see how people get addicted to the stuff... maybe i just havent had enough of it
So if it isnt addictive i dont see the harm in doint it every once in a while to get your mind of isht
I like most alcohol... i dunno.. im strange.. most people i know hate most alcohols... maybe its cuz im russian

Didn't catch the keyword I mentioned, did ya?;) I've had an occasional drink. But not much lately.

Because they don't... It's not addictive... Well, it is to a certain extent... as in like less addictive than caffeine... Or was it sugar? I forgot... but basically less addictive than something that's not very addictive at all... I guess that's another half-truth they can use...

"IT'S AN ADDICTIVE DRUG!!!" They just won't tell you that it's not very addictive at all

...

And it doesn't lead to harder drugs either... The 'gateway theory' was based on an old, sloppy study that showed that many people who did harder drugs did weed... It was also done back in the day when the government was saying all this complete crap about weed just because the public would believe it... How does that prove anything? Weed is easier to obtain, and it's also cheaper... And less dangerous... So if you're gonna do harder drugs, why not smoke weed too? :p The only way it's a gateway drug is because people buy it from shady dealers who sell harder drugs, and might talk them into trying it... But that's just a maybe, and if they legalized it and people didn't have to get it from shady dealers, that wouldn't be a problem at all...

But I'm getting off topic here (^-^

BlueFire 06-05-2003 10:16 PM

I'm just curious. Where do you get your information and how are you so sure it's true?

The Germanator 06-05-2003 10:20 PM

All I know is that the anti-marijuana commercials out now are hilarious. I love the one where the guy hits the little girl on the bike, or even better is when the girl gets so stoned that she gets knocked up...it's funny stuff.

gekko 06-05-2003 10:26 PM

DsH, perfect example of a druggie in denial. Blind to the obvious.

I don't even do the drug  And what's obvious is I know plenty of people who do the drug and they don't constantly do it because they're addicted, they don't do harder drugs (or have the urge to do them)... etc...

As for where I get the information, for all I know they could just be pot sites trying to get it legalized or get more people to do it or something... But there are just various FAQs and stuff around the net that list a bunch of stuff and they also mention sources (various studies and stuff)... And while I admit the information could be false, I'd say the stuff the government and anti-pot groups say has just about as good a chance as being false... But I know people who do it and they're perfectly fine... And I had no trouble saying "This isn't for me" and stopping...

And yes, those commercials are hilarious :D What about the one with the kids and the gun... My brother said he saw a comedian joking around about how it looks more like an anti-gun ad and would "Rather be in a room full of stoned teenagers than in a room full of teenagers with guns"... :p

gekko 06-05-2003 10:50 PM

The studies aren't false. They don't apply to everyone, but they aren't false.

Not everyone who smokes weed moves on, but many people get introduced into the world of drugs with weed. Most 13-16 year old kids, the age that they would typically do weed for the first time, do it because one of their friends does. The same friends who could easily talk them into doing a harder drug, or they work their way down the line. Friend of a friend, start smoking with them, then moving on, eventually finding the hard drug users. Smoking weed doesn't make you want crack, but it's usually smoking weed that begins the cycle which will eventually lead them to hard drugs.

At one point they had 2 choices, smoke weed, or not. Choosing no means the dumbass (read: drug user) friend goes off with someone else for a smoke. Chances are they wouldn't keep asking him, and he'd probably never do any drug, much less a hard drug. If he chooses yes, he smokes weed, and he's much much more likely to go to hard drugs.

As for addiction, you don't need to constantly do it. People who smoke a cig a day can be addicted, just like those who smoke a pack. Like any other addictions, they grow over time. You and your buddies are still young, you can be addicted and still not smoke constantly. There's also a very good chance they're not addicted. Not everyone who drinks or smokes is addicted, not everyone who does drugs is addicted. But many are.

If you continue to do a drug there's a good chance you're addicted. While you may not do it daily, there is something that is pushing you to do it again, the start of an addiction. Whether it escalates from there or not really depends if they continue to do it. The only drug you could really make an argument against doing but not having any addiction to is heroine. If you don't possess a certain gene, you don't get addicted to heroine.

DeathsHand 06-06-2003 12:16 AM

I hate debates...

That cycle can't really be proven to actually get people doing harder drugs, although yes doing weed can open up access to harder drugs because, as I said, SOMEONE down the line gets it from a shady drug dealer... But if that can be used as a thing against pot, you could also say that after kids try weed and find out it's not this crazy evil bad thing that people made it out to be, they could be blinded by that and would be more likely to think that harder drugs aren't as bad as people make them out to be either...

I guess weed could be considered dangerous to people who don't do their research and would do a harder drug if offered one...

And I'm not saying harder drugs should be more accepted by the public, but I mean cigarettes and Alcohol are just about as dangerous as weed, the only big problem with it is it's image...

"You and your buddies are still young, you can be addicted and still not smoke constantly."

First I already told you I only smoked 4 times and then stopped... And that was back in August... And when I talk about people not smoking a lot, I'm talking going weeks or months without smoking once... And not having it bother them... And turning down the opportunity to do it... Then eventually doing it again because the opportunity came up and they want to... *shrugs*

The Germanator 06-06-2003 12:36 AM

My friends actually do smoke weed multiple times a day...Like, they get really pissy if they run out of weed for a day or two. If they aren't addicted, then I don't know what addiction is. I know they'll never do cocaine or anything though, they're smart enough to know that....I think...

Joeiss 06-06-2003 05:09 PM

I used to smoke weed a couple of times a week. Some of my friends moved on to other dugs, I just quit. I smoke occasionally, but not too often.

Beer is my drug of choice now.

And DsH, countries cannot legalize marijuana, or else they would be violated some UN law... But they can decriminalize it if they really wanted to.

The Germanator 06-06-2003 06:05 PM

Didn't a province in Canada legalize possesion of half an ounce of marijuana? I'm almost sure I heard that...

Perfect Stu 06-06-2003 06:54 PM

I normally prefer Sleeman's DARK over Light Beer...as a refreshment when it's hot, however, I do some Light beer or non-dark stuff like Canadian and Export. Jackass ;)

Im pretty sure you still get fined or somethin i dunno...

Canyarion 06-07-2003 04:23 AM

I like wine better than beer, there aren't many liquors that I don't like... I probably haven't tasted them all. :D

I don't smoke or use (soft) drugs.

Professor S 06-07-2003 06:09 PM

If your looking for a gateway drug, take a look at alcohol. It is proven to be more addictive than marajuana, do more damage than marajuana to your brain (most effects of marajuana to the synapses will disappear once use stops. Marajuana, or more accurately THC, does not kill brain cells, unlike alcohol). I would challenge you to name a drug user that doesn't also drink, and/or didn't drink before starting use of harder drugs.

Marajuana is far less dangerous than alcohol, being that you would have to consume nearly your body weight in order to overdose.

Marajuana is illegal and alcohol is legal for basically one reason: Those that made the laws back then drank, and marajuana was considered a "slum" drug, much like opium.

BTW, I do not smoke marajuana and have not smoked weed in 3 years and never regularly.

Seth 06-07-2003 09:51 PM

While Canadian beer commercials are funny and it's pretty much a part of our culture, i'm kind of embarrassed at times from the way we act towards beer(like it descended from heaven)

My mom is a social worker. She has to deal with a lot of families who are just making it by on well fare because the dad and mom's are alcoholics. Beer ****s you over just like pot and makes people do stupid ****. You don't read many incidents where teens die from smoking and driving. Beer's addictive(quite addictive). Weed isn't.

I don't drink beer cuz i don't like the taste. I also don't do pot. but, if i were to start doing one or the other I'd pick weed. I get buzzed and high on other things in life. I don't need to ruin my body to do that.

Oh, and i live about 4 hours east of Vancouver in the Okanagan Valley. Basically, everyone here does weed. If a police man sees some dude smoking a big joint in the park or on the street they're just happy they aren't on crack or drinking and driving. I can't see the governments reasoning when it comes to wee legalization. Alcohol is much more dangerous. Cigarettes are just as harmful to your lungs(more harmful considering how much users smoke it) and it's highly addictive. It doesn't make sense to me. A non addictive drug isn't legal but alcohol(which is just as much a drug) is addictive and it causes people to do stupid stuff.
