Joeiss 04-23-2003 06:35 AM

Woah... Mario Kart is shaping up nicely... But too bad I couldn't tell the difference between Pikmin 1 and 2.. lol

fingersman 04-23-2003 09:44 AM

Why do they have two people on the cart? Well NM...it looks nice, especially when I see Koppa tropper in there. :D

BreakABone 04-23-2003 09:45 AM

I think these are larger

I heard it also supports LAN

And the official name is Double Dash

GameKinG 04-23-2003 09:53 AM

I like the car idea, but what is luigi driving in that last one? He is so whipped by daisy.

BreakABone 04-23-2003 09:56 AM

Quote:

The latest in the acclaimed Mario Kart series is here, and this time, you won't be racing alone! Each kart holds two racers, so choose from Mario, Luigi, Peach, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Yoshi, Birdo, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Koopa, and Paratroopa and pair them up any way you see fit. The character in front handles the driving duties, while the character in the rear doles out damage with six normal items and eight special items that only specific characters can use. Racers can swap places at any time, so switch it up on the fly to make the best use of your items as you tear around curves and over huge elevation changes.
From Nintendo's official e3 2k3 site. First info on Mario Kart: Double Dash.

So according to this, any of the 16 characters can be teamed up. Bowser and Mario? Peach driving Bowser's get a way car? Peach and Daisy in a Kat Fight?

Also, I guess you control both of the characters and have the abilirty to switch in and out.

Canyarion 04-23-2003 09:57 AM

I wonder if you can make any combination of characters.... Cause we see Mario & Luigi pairs, but also Mario & Peach...

Haha Baby Mario & Baby Luigi!! :D

Edit: BreakABone posted just before me. :)

The graphics are pretty decent by the way.

GameKinG 04-23-2003 10:11 AM

According to the magazine, it could have LAN. I dunno japanese though...

BreakABone 04-23-2003 10:20 AM

And as sad as it is, this is a thread for PikMin 2 as well and found it only right to talk about that as well.

Quote:

Captain Olimar has returned to the planet where the Pikmin live, and he's all business this time!
The company he works for is going bankrupt, so to save it, Olimar must salvage the treasure buried all over the planet. His company's debt is a whopping 10,000 pokos- luckily, Olimar brought an assistant, so if the two of them can delegate their work well, they should be able to erase that debt in no time! Of course, they'll need the help of the Pikmin to do that-these two can't do anything by themselves. Alternate controlling the main characters-Olimar and his assistant-as you command your Pikmin to defeat enemies, propagate more Pikmin, collect precious doodads, and solve puzzles. With no time limit, new colors of Pikmin, and two-player cooperative play, Pikmin 2 improves on the original in every way.
Well this sounds cool. Will Nintendo allow for both olimar and his assistant to control two different groups of PikMin for some puzzles?

No time limit? The game could be longer/shorter?

Co-op play? Is that Nintendo's word for the year?

*Goes back to staring at Mario Kart screens*

Canyarion 04-23-2003 10:22 AM

Makes me wonder... is Mario Kart co-op?? Does 1 player steer, and the other attack?? Then how would they do 4 splitscreen, like in the first screen?

GameKinG 04-23-2003 10:22 AM

NO TIME LIMIT!

tarakan69 04-23-2003 11:19 AM

Is it me or they are on a buggy

Dyne 04-23-2003 11:35 AM

Good god.. Mario Kart looks reeeaaallly good

Pikmin.. meh.

I like this combination idea a lot. See, now that we have Diddy in this game, it's like Mario Kart and Diddy Kong Racing. :p But yeah! Good to see Nintendo still has ideas up their sleeves.

BreakABone 04-23-2003 12:57 PM

Well this is the fully translated article from Famistu.

Quote:

Scoop #1: “Mario Cart GC” (tentative title): First Available Screen Shots of Long-Awaited Game!

Title: Mario Cart GC (tentative)
Platform: Nintendo GameCube
Release Date: Undetermined
Price: Undetermined
Ok, the name is no longer tentative as it's titled Mario Kart: Double Dash.

Quote:

The GC version of “Mario Cart” has at last been announced to the public! Unlike previous installments, this one features two characters riding the carts simulatenously – one in back and one in front. The number of selectable characters has grown to 16, opening up the range of races to be had even more. Furthermore, there are items that can only be used by certain characters, as well as those that only can be utilized depending on the combination of characters chosen. Choosing the right character to ride behind you and using the items effectively will be the key to victory.
Well 16 characters is what, double the number the other games had?
Certain team combos? Does that mean Mario and Luigi will make a better team than say Mario and Birdo?
Also this double character car racing will give a whole new meaning to backseat driver..

Quote:

Special Focus:
Increased Multiplayer Options?

Famitsuu would like to turn reader’s eyes to this game’s incorporation of LAN-based competition, an experimental effort involving competitive play though network technology. As it’s been made clear that Nintendo is working on a network-based plan of their own, it’s safe to say that this game will be one of those to take advantage of this plan.
Although multiple GC units and copies of the soft will be necessary to employ it, LAN-based competition features no time lag and allows for greater multiplayer possibilities. Look for Nintendo to elaborate on this at E3.
Well, it's finally confirmed that Mario Kart: Double Dash will feature LAN support, but what I find even more intriguing is the fact that this doesn't sound like the only game Nintendo got planned to take advantage of this feature. I wonder with this added emphasis on co-op gameplay...

Quote:

The heart-pumping races of Mario Kart featuring simultaneous 4-player competition come back to life!

Mario Kart for the GC will of course feature simultaneous four-player competition, with the screen to be split into four parts as shown in the picture. Looks like the number of carts and courses has increased as well!
Well ofcourse there are more karts since every character seems to have their own custom one.
I don't know how they can tell the number of courses, but you can see some from Isle Delfino.

Quote:

Check out the picture of Mario looking to the side as he uses an item. This and the other screen shots would imply that items can be used in whatever direction – forward, back, right, or left.
I figured that's why the second character was included to give you manual aim at weapons and what have you.

Quote:

Point 1:
New strategy comes to life with two characters riding the same cart – one in front and one in back!

Take on the various courses with an extra character riding in the back of your cart, an option unavailable in the previous Mario Kart games. This amazing new option allows for the two characters riding the same cart to switch positions, and only the character seated in the back is alloweed to use items. The items that can be used change according to the characters chosen, making the selection of the racing team to be used a major point.

Point 2:
The characters that have been confirmed to appear are…

Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Yoshi, Catharine, Wario, Waruiji, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Koopa, Koopa Jr., NokoNoko and PataPata 16 characters in all. Perhaps there are some secret characters as well…?

Point 3:
The advantage of LAN-based competition

LAN-based competition will allow a max of 8 players to play simultaneously. Loooks for more details to be announced at E3.

Jason1 04-23-2003 01:06 PM

Its looking great. Im surprised to see all this stuff this early, but im not complaining!

TheGame 04-23-2003 01:22 PM

Mario Kart looks gay as usual...

I'm looking forward to Pikmin 2 though.

DarkMaster 04-23-2003 03:44 PM

if mario kart was online, I'd buy it the day it was released. But now, I'll probly just rent it whenever it comes out and play it with some friends. looks cool, but without online compatability, I'll probly get bored of it fast, because at the end of the day, mario kart is a racing game, and I'm not a big fan of that genre. unless it was online, damn that would be sweet.

pikmin 2 looks bleh. thats all I got to say about that game.

Stonecutter 04-23-2003 03:44 PM

And this game is supposedly done? What the hell? How can zelda and metroid look so good and this game look so.....bleh. TEXTURES. Jesus, what do we have to do for a little bump mapping here and there.

I'm sure the game will be fun but I'm really think we've earned the right to expect a little more from our games in the graphics department.

Oh yeah, this would have been impossible for 8 players on broadband

Shadow_Link 04-23-2003 04:01 PM

Er, you do know that you can use the LAN feature to play this game online, Gamespy have just signed on to do such things.

Crash 04-23-2003 04:19 PM

omg omg omg omg omg mario kart whoa whoa whoa whoa AHHHHHHH!!!!! :boing: :WHOA:

Yeah......matter of fact I mentioned that in another thread.

But it's still no where near as good as a nintnendo supported dedicated service.

Well, I doubt the game is complete, just look at the screenshots and you can see that the orders of racers isn't in order in most of them, which atleast tells me it's a work in progress,

And I don't know, I never really found out where people want Mario games to go graphical, sure it can be cleaned up a bit, but eh.

Idiot 04-23-2003 06:18 PM

It would appear that yet another Nintendo-produced videogame masterpiece is imminent then.....

True. Infact, I heard that the networking code would have to be top notch, and allow for a higher banwidth (or some jargon like that), so that lag wouldn't be a pain in the arse.

But if it worked for Halo, then who knows :D.

Mushlafa 04-23-2003 11:50 PM

Always been a fan of mario kart games... il prolly buy it or at least give it like 6 rents over GC's life cycle if its good... sit down with a couple friends and play this game all night is kina fun :)

GameMaster 04-23-2003 11:56 PM

Mario Kart looks great! Go Bowser! :D

And having no time limit in Pikmin 2 may make it worthy of buying. A lot of you guys are too fixed on the non-updated graphics since the last one though. Graphics aren't everything.

Blix 04-24-2003 01:56 AM

The addition of Link and Zelda would've been nice IMO. The only thing I don't like is the Karts' desing. Other than that, the games looks as fun as a Mario Kart game should be. I kinda like the two characters per kart thingy already. I'm still a little disapointed that the game will not feature online play. I don't have broad band so I can't get online. Anyways, the four player mode has always been fun-as-hell and that will keep me satisfied for sure. And, IMO, it would be cool if Zelda and Link were secret characters in the game.

DeathsHand 04-24-2003 03:01 AM

The vehicles in Mario Kart look like Power Wheels... Custom made Power Wheels...

And Pikmin 2 looks like Pikmin 1...

And you want me to believe you're the leader of the free world?

Don't waste my time...

Now where'd I leave my ham sandwich?

Yeah, I don't know what nintendo's deal with that is. I'm getting really sick of the mario kart/golf/tennis rosters, I wish they'd put the smash brothers roster into these games.

Nah, I dunno, there is somthing about imagineing Link/Gannondorf playing Golf or Tennis that doesn't sound right.

As for Mario Kart, I wouldn't give a rats ass either way.

I think Mario Party could fit everybody in, but Golf/Tennis probably should just stick to the "Mario" world of guys.

tarakan69 04-24-2003 05:31 AM

Well generally I think Nintendo should stop the stupid Golf/Volley spin offs.

I for instant am NOT intrested... I don't exactly get all too horny and erected about playing as Mario in a Golf or Volley game.

I also won't be getting Mario Kart cause it has no descent single player... but it is a karting game so I should complain.

Idiot 04-24-2003 06:57 AM

Ah, happy summer days playing Mario Golf, happy winter evenings spent playing Mario Tennis. Of course, it would have been cheaper and healthier for me to buy a racket and tube of balls or set of 2nd hand golf clubs instead, but I couldn't really care less, I prefer my sports to be virtual.

bobcat 04-24-2003 08:20 AM

Mario Kart was never out to impress anyone graphically, so I don't really mind that much.

I just want this game. The LAN feature sounds neat, considering the small size of the GC (and the handle).

Pikmin2 on the other hand....well I don't really care

viruscool 04-24-2003 09:19 AM

I just dont see your problem. Mario kart is not suposed to be a realisitc looking game. You need to think again, if it has the gameplay i dont care about what the graphics look like. If i wanted a graphical racer i would go for a F1 game with a crappy multiplayer mode. In my eyes its gameplay over graphics, and thats what mario kart will give us i essure you.

Shadow_Link 04-24-2003 10:01 AM

The game is called 'Mario' Kart. Only characters from the Mario universe will be in the game. Link and Ganondorf are not in the Mario universe. Same with Mario Golf and Mario Tennis (bloody good game).

GameKinG 04-24-2003 10:11 AM

Mario Golf and Tennis are excellent games. I think mario golf is probably the second best golf game I have ever played, and the only tennis game I have ever played was also Mario. Good, good games. I think they were also good sellers on N64.

Anyway, you cant change the roster to anything outside Mario, other wise it wouldnt be Mario Kart. Besides, Link racing in a kart is just not fit.

How does hi res textures and smooth models necessarily make for a realistic looking game? The difference between a realistic looking game and a cartoony looking game is the art style. Gameplay > Graphics, I agree...but that shouldn't give Nintendo the excuse to bail in the graphics department.

Before you throw large pointy rocks at me, Mario Kart should not disappoint in the gameplay department.

I agree. Well except for Mario Golf coz I haven't played it. But Mario Tennis IMO is easily the best tennis game overall going around.

Much more better than Virtua Tennis :errr:

Without a doubt
