besides Vancouvers game. does any of the rest that are still going acutlaly matter?

Joeiss 04-06-2003 05:48 PM

Nope.

nWoCHRISnWo 04-06-2003 06:49 PM

Actually, I'M the one who won this thing last year. :)

And anyways, the Vancouver game is done and the series you have up there are all right, so here goes:

West~

Dallas over Edmonton in 6
Detroit over Anahiem in 5
Colorado over Minnesota in 6
Vancouver over St. Louis in 7

East~

Ottawa over New York Isles in 6
Boston over New Jersey in 7
Washington over Tampa Bay in 6
Toronto over Philadelphia in 7

_______________________________________________

Well there could be some pretty intense first round series... the Oilers and the Stars ALWAYS produced some awesome series, and after playing eachother eight billion times, they just plain hate eachother. Then there's Minnesota, who I don't think anyone wants to play in the first round. They could really suprise some people, but Colorado is pretty strong. Vancouver and St. Louis should be pretty exciting, watch for Bertuzzi vs Pronger. In the East, I picked my first upset with Boston over Jersey. It all depends on Boston's goaltender (Sheilds has a SWEET mask eh?). I also picked Toronto over Philly in what could be called an upset, but I see them as pretty equal. That should be one sweet ass series anyway, LOTS of physical goodness. Washington over Tampa Bay could be considered an upset as well, but it's not like Tampa Bay should be in third place anyway... And Yashin returns to Ottawa... But will get stomped all over. :)

I had the balls to pick three teams who were lower than their opponents. Do YOU?

The Germanator 04-06-2003 07:09 PM

Dallas over Edmonton in 6
Detroit over Anaheim in 6
Colorado over Minnesota in 7
Vancouver over St.Louis in 6

Ottawa over NY in 5
New Jersey over Boston in 7
Tampa Bay over Washington in 6
Philly over Toronto in 7

Joeiss 04-06-2003 08:13 PM

~West~

Dallas over Edmonton in 5
Detroit over Anahiem in 5
Colorado over Minnesota in 4
Vancouver over St. Louis in 6

~East~

Ottawa over New York Isles in 7
New Jersey over Boston in 6
Washington over Tampa Bay in 5
Toronto over Philadelphia in 7

What chris said. :D .... Um, I just don't think Edmonton is strong enough to last more than 5 games against Dallas. Anahiem in the playoffs? Not for long... Minnesota is gonna get beat in 4, but they will be great games... And go Vancouver! I would pick St. Louis, but I want to see a Canadian team advance!

Ottawa vs. New York Islanders will be a low scoring series, and it will be a long 7 games... New Jersey will be Boston, just because I don't think that Boston is ready yet. They will get 2 wins, but that just won't cut it. Tampa Bay sucks, lol... Washington will beat them quite easily...

And for the most anticipated first round playoff game of this year : The Leafs will win, but it will be the toughest round they will have to play (besides the Cup Finals of course.)

Seth 04-07-2003 12:07 AM

~West~

Dallas over Edmonton in 5
Detroit over Anahiem in 4
Colorado over Minnesota in 5
Vancouver over St. Louis in 6

~East~

Ottawa over New York Isles in 5
New Jersey over Boston in 5
Tampa Bay over Washington 6
Toronto over Philadelphia in 7

gak...that Van vs LA game really pissed me off.

Crono 04-07-2003 03:18 PM

WEST:
Dallas over Edmonton in 6
Detroit over Anaheim in 5
Colorado over Minnesota in 6
Vancouver over St Louis in 6

EAST:
Ottawa over NYI in 5
New Jersey over Boston in 5
Washington over Tampa Bay in 6
Toronto over Philly in 6

Providing that Toronto can get back some of their injured players before the playoffs begin, I'm sure they'll do just fine.

Perfect Stu 04-07-2003 06:14 PM

[WEST]
(1)DAL vs EDM(8)
-Dallas in 5. Should be some hard fought games, but Dallas is the better team by a visible margin

(2)DET vs ANA(7)
-Detroit in 4. Ouch...sorry Ducks fans

(3)COL vs MIN(6)
-Colorado in 5. Peter Forsberg for the Hart!

(4)VAN vs STL(5)
-Vancouver in 6. Osgood won't be able to stop the big line, but St. Louis will hang on for 6 games

[EAST]
(1)OTT vs NYI(8)
-Ottawa in 6. The Islanders have the better mental and physical toughness, but the Sens have a hell of a lot more talent

(2)NJ vs BOS(7)
-New Jersey in 7. I anticipate a really good series, and I can see this one going either way...making this the hardest prediction

(3)TB vs WAS(6)
-Tampa Bay in 6. Ick. This should not be a playoff series.

(4)PHI vs TOR(5)
-Toronto in 6. Toronto will win this tough, low scoring battle.

ZebraRampage 04-08-2003 03:22 PM

Well based on what has happened in previous years I can tell you all this. The Flyers are most likely not going to make it to the second round because they suck ass in the playoffs and it pisses me off......every year.

Yeah, I hear that bro...Though, we've been scoring like crazy since the Amonte trade and our defense and play on the road has been solid all year, hopefully Hitchy can get us pumped for the playoffs and we can actually win...

Joeiss 04-08-2003 09:25 PM

Hopefully not, for Dougy's sake.

Joeiss 04-09-2003 09:37 PM

GO LEAFS GO!!!

A-Mog with the hat trick... Good stuff Leafs! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Germanator 04-09-2003 10:05 PM

Well, at least the Flyers have surpassed their playoff scoring total from last year.

Perfect Stu 04-09-2003 10:27 PM

GO LEAFS GO

nWoCHRISnWo 04-09-2003 10:40 PM

Well three of the four away teams won so far.

Jersey/Boston- I watched some of it, pretty boring stuff here. I hate New Jersey games for the most part. I think Thornton got hurt, I don't think he's injured badly or anything though. Brodeur plays good as usual and Langenbrunner got two goals, continuing Nieuwendyke's and his hot streak over the last month or so.

Ottawa/Islanders- I just saw the hilites. Not too suprising that Islanders won so convincingly, but I still expect Ottawa to come back strong next game and play like everyone knows they can. They'll still win the series.

Toronto/Philly- I saw a short bit of the game and all the hilites. Looked like an awesome physical game with lots of goals. Already people are starting to get injured... Whoever comes out of this series (Toronto) is gonna LIMP out. I think Leafs have a good chance of playing for the Cup. Mogilny with the trick!

Oilers/Stars- EDMONTON WINS! EDMONTON WINS! EDMONTON WINS!

GO OILERS! GO LEAFS! GO SENATORS! AND tomarrow, GO CANUCKS!

Seth 04-09-2003 11:34 PM

Anyone else set up their shrine yet? I've got a canucks diddy in my room...along with other canadian team stuff. Candles and such.

Canucks tomorrow...it's going to be a crazy game.

*drinks some blood*

Seth 04-11-2003 12:31 AM

Wow....that game sucked. Oh well, game 2 saturday.

nWoCHRISnWo 04-11-2003 12:47 AM

Well holy ****, other than New Jersey every upper seed lost game one. Who'd have guessed that?

And who else saw the Ducks vs Wings game? TRIPLE ****ing Overtime, Detroit had like 60+ shots, they were getting outplayed, outhit, outworked, everything, but J.S Giguere was in the ****ing zone. Then Paul Kariya scores after over 100 minutes of action, SWEET stuff.

Detroit in 4. Ouch...sorry Ducks fans

Detroit over Anahiem in 4

:) Go Ducks!

Seth 04-11-2003 12:57 AM

Ya, Detroit dominated that game....but giguere was on fire. Sweet for ducks though.

mickydaniels 04-11-2003 11:28 AM

I don't know too much about this season but I actually think at least half of the higher seeds will lose in the first round, like the 98 season.

Joeiss 04-11-2003 02:59 PM

Ducks are still gonna lose though.

Seth 04-11-2003 03:28 PM

I think it's just a coincidence that the higher teams lost their first games. There's still a lot of hockey left to play in the 1st round.

nWoCHRISnWo 04-11-2003 05:46 PM

Well for some teams like Ottawa and Vancouver, I think the pressure was just too much in their first games and they'll definitely get better. Colorado wasn't terrible, it's just that Minnesota is a good team and they played the way they usually do, got a few PP goals and once they get the lead, they will win. Detroit ran into Giguere, if not for an absolutely spectacular game from him, then Detroit wins this game in regulation. Philly is pretty much equal to Toronto in my view, so I don't see that as an upset and nor do I see Philly coming back and beating the Leafs, but it wouldn't be too suprising. And Dallas, they just got outworked by the Oilers. :)

Null 04-11-2003 05:49 PM

actually its quite common the lower place team takes game 1. Happens quite a bit.

this the first time i seen so many lose game 1 at once. but still.

Quite often its a wakeup call for the higher place team, its like slappin the monster in the face and saying Hey, Wake up!

As for detroit. We learn to live with it and not really be bothered by it at all.

In all 3 years the wings have won the cup... 97 98 03 ..... They have trailed in at least 1 series during thier playoff run. sometimes like last year. they've trailed in 2 rounds. sometimes its kinda needed to keep the fire going.

But thats not to rule a lower place team out at all. Any team has the chance to beat the other in hockey. much the reason why i think the Hockey playoffs are more interesting then others. anything can happen

Trends in hockey have a weird way of working themselves. Oilers seem to relish in being the 8th place team and taking out the 1st...... Expecially when the 1st place team is either Dallas or Colorado.

Dragon-Fly 04-12-2003 09:57 AM

Dal-Edm: Dallas in 7
Van-St-L: St-Louis in 6
Detriot-Anaheim: Det in 5
Col-Min: Minn in 6

Ott-Isl: Isl in 6
Bos-Nj: Bos in 7 (though if they loose game three their out)
Phi-Tor: Tor 6
Tb-Wash: Tb in 6

Who ever says Nj has already won, since their leading 2-0, they should be ashamed, because it's not over till it's over.

Uhh nobody said that... And it's not over until it's over for EVERY team, not just Boston.

And after seeing them go down 2-0 to Jersey, you still actually THINK they'll win? I think it's more a case that you WANT them to win... I never understood that, why do people always PREDICT their team to win, like ALL the time? A prediction is who you actually honestly THINK will win, usually people say "but I'm biased" and that doesn't make sense to me. How does liking one team make it more likely that they are gonna win? Like the Toronto fans that "predict" they'll win the cup ever year. I wonder how many actually think they will win the cup? I love Edmonton, but I know the chances of them beating Dallas aren't that great so I predicted Dallas to win the series.

I know this is just for fun, but still...

The Germanator 04-12-2003 06:20 PM

The Flyers looked mighty good in game 2. I'm confident that they can also take both games in Toronto, but we'll see.

Seth 04-12-2003 08:26 PM

Ya, the ducks are ahead 2-0 in the series. What a surprise. ...Knowing Detroit though, they'll probably win the next 4.

Null 04-12-2003 08:31 PM

its called Irony...

Yzerman said before the playoffs. he thinks losing the first 2 last year helped em..... As luck would have it. they run into a hot goalie again and lightning strikes twice.

Seth 04-13-2003 01:06 AM

HIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

2-1
Sucks that Cloutier didn't get the shutout. He didn't have much of a chance on the blues goal....screened really well.

Anyway, the Canucks really dominated to start out the game.

...Micinnis looks like he might have a seperated shoulder or broken arm.

Joeiss 04-13-2003 11:14 AM

Yeah, they say he has an "upper body" injury... No specifics, though.

nWoCHRISnWo 04-13-2003 05:58 PM

Boston's 0-3 now. I thought they were gonna make it more of a series than this... Pat Burns is, in a coaching type way, destroying Boston.

nWoCHRISnWo 04-14-2003 12:38 AM

Well holy ****, did anyone else see that Oilers/Stars game 3? One of the most exciting games I've seen in the last two years. The fans in Edmonton were ELECTRIC, acting as a seventh man out there it seemed. Turco has not played well throughout the series so far, he's let in a bad goal in all three games, and in tonight's game he could have prevented one goal if he just would have poke checked Laraque on his goal, and he almost created a goal-against on one of his puck-handling displays. Irony at it's best, Turco's supposed to be awesome at puck-handling, when he almost cost himself a goal or two, while Salo created a goal from his puck-handling. Series is now 2-1 Oilers. Go Oilers go!

Perfect Stu 04-14-2003 09:40 AM

Oilers are really impressing me
I expected a lot more from Turco, too (although I heard he has played very well in a few periods this series). For the GAA record-holder, he looks really meh.

I'm going to be at the Philly@Toronto game tonight :). I'll be one of 19+ thousand who will act as the 7th man on the ice for the Leafs. GO LEAFS GO

Joeiss 04-14-2003 05:12 PM

YOur going to the game?!?!?! WOW man... that is spectacular.

It won't be as spectacular for him when the Flyers win. ;)

Now I feel more confident that they Flyers will do fine. We just need better goal tending sometimes, it seems as though the offense is better and the defense is great. I have faith in them now.
