just to make sure, you guys do realize that the big sales were heavily influenced by the fact that some stores were selling the system + free game(s) for really low prices, right?
|
So I suppose it depends on whether the stores decide to keep that deal.
And that depends on how much Nintendo is selling the consoles to retailers for. Like some people here, I predict that this won't last. Just for starters, what big games are out on the PS2 in Europe right now? I haven't heard of any, but one of them is all it's going to take for the PS2 to start wiping the floor again. Or maybe it won't even require that. Nintendo games have tended to sell big in opening weeks and then disappear from the charts rather quickly. In general, I take this news the same way I take news about the Xbox beating the GameCube in Japan for one week. It's no big deal, it won't last and it's not even really an indication of a good future. |
Just so you know, Argos WILL be keeping this deal, and they won't be dropping the cube.
This also means that many other retailers WILL follow suit because of their price match promises. The only group dropping supposedly dropping the Cube is the Dixons group. The rest are keeping it. This only means one thing, this deal will do for the Cube that the other deal did for the Xbox, and it's starting to show. Like I said before though, time will tell. It seems to be running in Nintendo's favour at the moment though. I don't think it will maintain sales these high every week, but it will definately keep the sales atleast as high as the Xbox's, and maybe even nearly as high as the PS2's on average. Again, we can only tell in a few months. Quote:

This is good news. With Nintendo topping PS2 for a week in Japan and now the UK, all there is left is the US to top for a week or more. And with Zelda just now released recently, I want to see how well its doing in the US. And Perfect Stu, I know you're trying to aggravate me into making a biased reply that you want to blow out of proportion, but its not gonna happen;):D

I could turn every piece of news about PS2 dominating Gamecube into a personal insult towards each and every Gamecube fan - especially the pathetic ones like you... Is that what we want?...cause I'm game |

Yes, I know some of it is the low low price thing. But even with that, PS2 could have still over-whelmed it. I think thats the first time either system beat PS2. Except maybe GC's launch.

 funny stuff Btw I think this will only last for a while but hey if it continues then I guess Nintendo would have something to be happy about |
Yea this is very good news for Nintendo this month but I am a little scared about what is going to happen when all the cut price stocks of Gamecube has gone and it goes back up to it’s full price again. It can only be a matter of a month or two till the Gamecube is back at full price and then who is going to buy you tell a customer he can no longer have £60 off with a free memory card and game and see what they think. Or this could totally go the other way and sales stay higher dew to an upturn in market presents.
Which ever way the next few months are going to be fun in the UK :D |

I wonder when Nintendo will 'officially' cut the price? You're right though, 'tis an exciting time in Europe. |
