Nintendo to Announce "Breakthrough Technology"

Matt (IGN) Got this e-mail from Nintendo:

"[Nintendo wants] to make you all aware that Nintendo representatives will be in Las Vegas during the time of CES -- January 9 and 10 to be exact -- to unveil its latest technological breakthrough."

Matt says he really has no clue what it is. Though he specualtes they might demonstrate GBA player.

GameKinG 12-23-2002 11:20 PM

Also to note, later in his thread he reports that Factor 5 is busy at work on a few projects.

Happydude 12-23-2002 11:23 PM

nice double post ;)

lol...anyone have any clue to what this could be?

GameKinG 12-23-2002 11:26 PM

Nintendo does. They are the only people who know.

Other then that, I found the other news later, and didnt want to edit. :p

Null 12-23-2002 11:31 PM

ah, i know of this technological breakthrough...

what they have done. is invented the first speghetti thowing device to mount on your gamecube.

you may ask well why speghetti?

well in the next mario game, thats what mario will be throwing. and to get this real 3 dementional feel. when mario throws speghetti, the gamecube will throw it at you.

Now where does the GBA come into play? well.... you gotta fight back somehow...

12-23-2002 11:52 PM

but i dont know what it is

Dyne 12-23-2002 11:52 PM

*resists shouting Megaton in a crowded firehouse*

Null 12-23-2002 11:56 PM

GameKinG 12-24-2002 12:03 AM

Or maybe it could be a backlit gameboy advance, with the same battery consumption, or even better than the current models.

Well, I hope it's something good.

fingersman 12-24-2002 07:38 AM

Megaton!!! BAhhhhhhhhh..............I mean what could be more megaton than the confirmation of Mario Kart........and if it's confirmed then they'll show Gameplay and screenshots and if they do that then that means they would be pretty far in the development cycle *starts to talk fast* whichmeans that thegamewillsoon berealeased and i can buyitand playit andplayit overoverand overagainbwahhahahahhaha

*faints from excitement*

Crono 12-24-2002 09:25 AM

Mario Kart would be a pretty lousy megaton...Iwant the megaton to be something that will make me happy for owning a GCN...

And anyway, I bet they will be showing off the GBA Player, as someone said...

DeathsHand 12-24-2002 10:26 AM

showing off something they've already announced doesn't sound like they'd be announcing a "breakthrough technology"... but I bet this will be some other crap like megaton crap that goes on and on like crap for a craptacular long time...

Speaking of Virtual Reality, it was brought up in PSM's 2003 discussion... Well, a "new kind" of Virtual Reality... A konami "Team-Director" of Silent Hill 3 brought it up in a small interview in the PSM feature, and said:

"I think 'Virtual Reality' will return as a popular trend. However, it would be a new kind of VR. I daydream that there might be a head-mounted display for use at home. If we could make Silent Hill with this kind of hardware, our ideas would be booming."

And infact, Sony apparently has some kind of gear set for release in some territories that could act as a new kind of Virtual Reality... stuffs... for PS2... Sony's 'PUD-J5A motion-tracking glasstron display' (which is already out in Japan) and Essential Reality's 'P5 Glove' (Scheduled for release next Spring... in Japan, I'm assuming)...

Of course that's PS2, but yeah...

Just thought I'd mention it... Cuz Gamemaster brought up VR...

This is interesting...right when you think the Megaton news is slowing down, slowly being forgotten, BOOM. We get news like this from Nintendo themselves. When they say latest UNVIEL thier latest technological breakthrough, that sounds to me like it will be something big, and something we havent seen before(Not the GBA Player) but thats just me.

Jonbo298 12-24-2002 11:59 AM

I was gonna say basically what DH said. I don't think the breakthrough will be the GBA player. Its already been announced. Unless something that has to do with the GBA player is breakthrough? But ummm....MEGATON!:D

Shadow_Link 12-24-2002 12:56 PM

Heh, maybe it's the NES/SNES/N64 player. :D

GameKinG 12-24-2002 01:21 PM

Backlit GBA isnt exactly breakthrough...
