Metroid and RE0 owning all
http://www.planetgamecube.com/news.c...n=item&id=3735
Well, they are not really owning but they are selling at an exceptional rate. And all of this in a weeks time not bad huh?? Of course by the time I post this you guys would have probadly read the article already. |
Yeah the GameCube is doing great! I've read on C-E that GC almost sold as many units as PS2!! :D
Very interesting! :D |
Gamecube released the game of the year plus RE0 and it still doesn't outsell PS2....I wouldn't exactly call that impressive
250K in a week is good for a Gamecube game though |
I never said it was impressive...I just said it wasn't bad considering the user base the supposely kiddy image.
|
I think I'll say this is better than their normal sales. Pretty good, though :D

here is a press release clip of how GC is beating @$$
REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 27, 2002 – After waiting eight years for a return visit from their favorite video game heroine, a quarter million Nintendo GameCube owners in North America purchased the hit title Metroid Prime in its first week of availability. Coupled with the concurrent launch of Capcom’s Resident Evil Ř, also a Nintendo GameCube exclusive, well over half a million teen and older gamers will have purchased the two new games by the end of Thanksgiving weekend. The appeal of these and other popular Nintendo GameCube titles has boosted Nintendo GameCube into second place in total system sales so far in November, according to a number of retailers. "While Nintendo retains its legacy as the destination of choice for family gamers, we're also making substantial inroads with more mature players," says Peter MacDougall, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America Inc. "Both of these games are selling through at rates well beyond any game launched this year for Microsoft Xbox, which is skewed almost exclusively at older players." In addition, Metroid Prime is selling through at a unit rate approximately 50 percent higher than Microsoft's Xbox Live online service. Both products retail at an identical MSRP ($49.95), and debuted simultaneously in the market. |

Oh.
My bad. :D:p |
The general consumer does not know metroid is Game of the Year, and may not recall how great Super Metroid is. As well, RE1 wasnt really too much of a hit, so its not a very good argument to say this is in any way, bad.

2) the RE series was a huge success on PSX...I don't see why it shouldn't be on the GameCube... 3) honestly, how many big 'hits' have there been on the Gamecube? |

Metroid could be selling more than it is now, if Nintendo knew how to market a game. The're marketing is pathetic, they spent a whole crapload of money on a cool comercial, but I have only seen it once, they dont include any qoutes from websites or mags or anything, and you see a damn X-Box commercial every 2 seconds, where if I see the Prime commercial again I will be surprised because its almost never on...
|
There was a Cube-ad this morning in Holland... for Zelda, Metroid Prime and FF:CC... Those won't be released until somewhere next year. Better than nothing though.
They better start advertising SFA! |

I've seen the Prime and Fusion commercials at least 20 times each... And I have seen print ads at stores, too. I'd say that Nintendo's marketing of this Metroid has been great.
|
i see the MP and MF commercials at least 10 times each day, and i dont watch much tv. at stores i see tons of MP posters, carboard stands, demos, special prices for MP, its endless.
|
What channels are you guys seeing it on? I have seen it like once on Comedy Central, and another time on UPN, and I also saw the Fusion commercial once
|
yeah.. im not seeing it much either.. but then again.. i only watch tv during basketballl games... and weekdays from like 6-8...
|
hmmmm I see it on MTV quite a lot. I also see it on cartoon network the most and a little on comedy central. er when I was saying "it" I guess I meant "THEM"
|
Oh good golly you should see the advertising in the mall. In Coquitlam Mall over here, near where I live, they have HUGE ads of Samus and Metroid Prime hanging from the ceiling--you absolutely can't miss them if you were to walk by. Plus, they're in four different places! Some others ads for Energizer batteries (with a big GBA, go fig! :p) in other places. I do wonder how much NOC payed for those... And yeah, I've seen the commercial on T.V. 5 times despite the fact that I don't watch it that much.
Oh yea, I really think MP is going to be game of the year... why? I haven't seen one bit of advertising for Splinter Cell. |
Last week when the Daily Show (on Comedy Central) was still new, they had a Metroid Prime commercial like once every day during that show... I don't watch much more TV besides that...
As for Splinter Cell, which Dyne mentioned, this week I've seen the commercial about... 3 or 4 times... And again I really don't watch much TV... plus I've been doing a lot of junks with people... :o You just gotta be on da right channels!... Like the crummy ones I watch! |

I watch an hour TV in a week so... :-o |

Question: What does advertising have to do with Game of the Year? Advertising can boost salesness... but if you wanna talk salesness, GTA:VC has them both beat... So many of you seem positive that Metroid will be GotY... It'd be funny if it's not :p |
Haven't you figured out that I'm an idiot yet?
Well I linked the two items because Nintendo is actually proud of the game. Damn proud for sure, it's one of the best games Nintendo has ever put out. Now, look at Ubi Soft... do they look confident? Or Microsoft for that matter? (It's not even their game, is it? Just on the Xbox for the moment, huh? Huh? They've only bought a licence for the coming months.) I played SC a few days ago and I couldn't really call it completely jawdropping. And that's not comparing it to anything, especially Metroid Prime. But, they both merit good marks, and if I do say so myself, I'm liking Metroid Prime a little better. The support from Nintendo is fantastic, whereas Microsoft is almost 90% focused on Xbox's "Live" capabilites. Plus, I don't think sales positively hinder the score in the end, don't you? Even if every household had a copy of GTA:VC, it doesn't mean it's the best game possible. There's something called "Word of Mouth" advertising where biased individuals praise certain things, and sometimes inexperienced opinions about one game may completely cancel out the obviously better game. Besides, I never really had the "WHEEEEE" factor in either SC or GTAVC. |
