I don't think it's in reference to other modems. It means in reference to all internet connections (cable, dsl, dial-up).

1.9mb/sec now.
new internet server we have now.... have to wait and see what it averages out as. it said 2 when i first tried, 1.8. then 1.9. now it says i've run all my tests for the hour or something. *sobs* |

Perhaps, its in reference to 14.4, 28, 56... You don't have a 14.4 modem on your computer do you... :hmm: We have a very, very old skool Macintosh with a 14.4 modem. Browsing with that is very frustrating. It came around about the same time as public internet started appearing and back then most sites were just text so it's all relative. |
i believe (note i had to read about these things in acient history books) that a 56k modem, doesnt mean it connects at 56k.
you look at the icon when you log on, it can be logged on at any speed, be it 14.4, 44.4 is frequent, or 36. etc. mind you i might have to check with some really old people to check this info out. |
Hey...mine is 33.6 and i think it's fine for forums and most sites i go too, I've been thinking of getting a new computer but i'm fine with the one i have now at least until it stops working.:p
|
It seems forums take a whole lot longer than most corporate web sites. Even a 500k gamefaq is done quicker but thats just text so I really don't know mine connects at 42.6 usu.
