Its the obvious that stumps ya...

I like to think of myself as an experienced gamer, having been playing steadly since I was 3 years old. But there still comes times where the seemingly easiest things in games stumps me for hours, or until I give up and check a guide. Things that even a videogame novice has no trouble figuring out. Take a recent example, Star Fox Adventures. Im about half way through the game, and I need to go to Krazoa Palace to release a Krazoa. Im thinking alright no problem until all of a sudden I cant remember for the life of me how to get to Krazoa Palace. I Had gotten there before, I remember being there, but I could not remember how I got there. I wandered around for a good hour until I finally rememberd the obvious. This has happened to me many times before, easy things, that you just cant seem to figure out. So tell me some of those rediculously obvious puzzles and such in games that have had you stumped.

or maybe im just the only idiot that this thing happens to:confused:

I know exactly what you mean man. I have the same problems too and I have been playing games for 13 years now... (I am 16)

Well, I can't remember any right now but when I remember, I'll post them for sure. Also, go to the warpstone if you already forgot again... ;)

GameMaster 11-03-2002 11:53 PM

A recent situation as a matter of fact...

Playing Mario Sunshine and throughout the game you bump into the squid boss a couple times. Well, my second run in with him, I completley forgot how to pull his tentacles off. I continue to approach him, jump on one, and then repeatedly tap the A button. I never can grab one! I proceed for 15 minutes when out of fatigue, I happen to tap more slowly and I see that Mario got hold for a second. Then I remember! You tap once, and pull back. Man, was it frustrating! :D

Edit: 20,000th post in the General Board!

Dyne 11-04-2002 03:39 AM

Don't worry buddy. I had the same problems with SFA. It's probably your eyes popping out at the beautiful graphics that stops your thought process. ;P

Yeah, I completely stalled at the second last level (the EarthWalker's palace... forget what it's called) where you're supposed to get the sun stone and the moon stone. I crazed trying to figure out how to get them, let alone the two puzzles you had to complete. Finally after half an hour I realised you had to look at the thing through the scope. *rolls eyes*

Angrist 11-04-2002 07:16 AM

Hehe I always have these things. I always do easy things the hard way.

Remember the first dungeon in Ocarina of Time?? There is somewhere a long rotating bar with spikes on it. Under it is water. On the water, a raft floats from this side to the other.
The bar throws you off when you stand on the raft. So me and my bro figured "You have to jump over it!". So we kept trying a back flip over it. And it worked after 5 tries. :D

Only later we discover there's a switch to lower the water...

I'll come up with some more.

Perfect Stu 11-04-2002 03:08 PM

I never thought I was that good of a gamer. I've only turned into a harcore gamer in the past 2-3 years. Once you go online with games, you'll realize how you stack up against the competition. I'm good in Madden, pretty good in SOCOM and not so good in Tony Hawk 4. But they key is, I love playing all 3. Oh and since I barely ever play PC online FPSs, I get my ass whooped badly whenever I make an attempt to compete in them ;)

and I know what you mean. I get stumped in games quite a bit, but I usually just keep playing them until I either find a way around the problem, or I get so pissed off I put the game back on the shelf for either

*cough*

I had some trouble in SFA as well.... I couldn't find the rock candy. I looked all over but it took me a while to think of checking the store and buying it :p

There's several other times as well though I can't remember any more at the moment...

DarkMaster 11-04-2002 08:41 PM

cant really think of any. most of the time it usually just takes me a few minutes to solve any problems that i would have in a game. there are some times where this sorta thing would happen, but they are too small to remember.

TheGame 11-05-2002 12:42 PM

Well, there was that time in FFX when I didn't know how to use a save point ;)

Now I'm stuck in some place where I gotta place spheres in some area to do somthing or other *shrugs*

*thinks about getting a strategy guide*

you gotta be kidding me.....

Crono 11-05-2002 04:57 PM

If you ask me, there is no such thing as an experienced "gamer". Eveyrone has different types of games that they like. Take me for example, I love RPGs and Adventure (like Zelda, etc.) games, and I consider myself experienced at them (especially in the rpg department, I've beaten a few psx/ps2 rpgs and many snes ones). However, I'm not afraid to admit that I suck ass at FPS's, Action games, and sports games. I'm sure most people are like this too. People are usually experienced in only certain types of games. I can only see a person being experienced overall if they are someone that works for a gaming magazine, game site, or have just been playing games for a VERY long time (like people that are like 25 years and older who have been playing games since the NES era, and can actually remember beating games on those systems.) But anyway, that's my opinion.

oh..and also, yes, I too have been stumped by the most obvious things, it's embarassing...

In Resident Evil (GCN) I didn't know that you had to check items from mulitple angels...

Stu, I knew someone would say that.

Nope... in the first part of the game I would run right past the save point... it took 3 tries before I figured that crap out... that was valueable lesson.

And I probably will be getting a strat guide for those puzzles. I'm not one to wander around one hour trying to figue somthing out with no progress....

heh, no offense...but those sphere puzzles are pretty much all common sense. And instead of buying a straetgy guide why not just look on gamefaqs? if that's the only reason why you want it. (FFX is a very easy game anyway).

lol... GameFaq's guides are too confusing....... as far as the sphere thingy being common sense, I dunno, I've tried evrything that is sset up to try... hell I evne put the sphere in the door slot again.

When I relized how much times I wasted not getting anywhere I kind of quit... but like the topic sais... maybe I'm missing somthing that is obvious. *shrugs*

Who the hell are you? Probably one of Angrist's little friends.

Anyways.... Yesterday, while playing some offline SOCOM, I had to not set off the Prison Alarms.... I have been stumped by this for so long.... But today, I just went the totally opposite way around the prison, and the alarm didn't go off!

those sphere puzzles are quite simple, you just have to pay attention to everything that is said and to all the little details. you're probly giving them too much credit, if you think something should be this way, then do it, thats the way they trick you, they appear to be so obvious that you think "no way, couldnt be" but most of the time it is. just use your head :)

certain spheres do certain things. just keep putting different spheres in different places and paths will open up. thats how I figured it out...

Well I got one useable sphere left (the other is up in a door)... and I put it everywhere... maybe I will put it in each place and search for an opening.

Some GameFaqs guides are better than others. Have you read more than one or is there only one availble to this game?

There are a lot of them... they are just so huge.

Finding my part is too hard.

DarkMaster 11-07-2002 03:29 PM

here TheGame, if this doesnt help you, then i suggest you take the game back, because it only gets harder from then on.

1) Move to the back of the first room and examine the Glyph Sphere and an opening will be revealed on the right.

2) Go down the stairs then examine the overhang on the wall to get the Glyph Sphere. Move to the bottom of the stairs and insert it in the door to open it up.

3) Take the Glyph Sphere from the open door and use it in the next spot to reveal the destruction sphere. You don't need this right now. Just keep going.

4) Examine the runes to reveal a Glyph. Examine it again to open a new area. Search it to find the Besaid Sphere. Insert the besaid sphere in the pedestal to open another area. Push the pedestal.

5) Now leave the pedestal there and go find that Destruction Sphere. Place it in the slot where you found the besaid sphere to reveal a hidden chamber.

6) Go to the new opening in the wall for the ROD OF WISDOM.

7) Now go back to the pedestal and push it all the way in until it sinks into the ground.

GameMaster 11-07-2002 06:33 PM

Another thing that stumped me was in the harbor level. Where you have to ground pound fruit from the machine and get one for Yoshi. Then you have to spary the fish and they turn into platforms for you to reach the caged shine. Now I know this, of course I visited GameFaqs.

LOL, I had just figured it out right before I logged on right now... but thanks for posting it anyway. :D

Besides this game, Xenogears is the only other RPG I have given more than a rent (well, and Pokemon, but I don't count that). So I'm still kinda new to the RPG game.

Well, you're in the right place because in my opinion, FF is the best place to when you're new to RPGs. I find that FF's gameplay design are much more simple compared to other RPGs, so maybe after beating FFX you may want to pick up FFVII, VIII or IX..

BlueFire 11-07-2002 09:29 PM

And good thing for you, FFX is generally easy :p

Jewel02 is not one of 'my little friends', I don't know her.

GameMaster, I have a brother for such problems. I remember he used some trick like, hold R and press A... huge spray or something. :)

GameMaster 11-08-2002 08:34 PM

I wish I had a brother :( My sister doesn't play video games.
