Big GCN Announcement Pending?

Derived from IGN:

Big GCN Announcement Pending?

One of Japan's biggest magazines hints at big things to come later this year.
September 30, 2002 - The latest issue of V-Jump, a monthly Japanese magazine that combines videogame coverage with comics, features a miniature one year anniversary celebration of the GameCube (yes, it's been a year since Nintendo's purple console launched to Japan allowing IGNcube to bring you such stories as Journeys of Box). Included as part of the festivities is a tantalizing hint at big things to come in GameCube land towards the end of this year.

The magazine states that, in addition to seeing more detailed coverage on its pages, the GameCube will also see something of "mega-ton level" (that means like a nuclear explosion, kids) happening at the end of the year. Above this little blurb is another, seemingly speculative pondering by V-Jump: "The start of a super-big project that will cause a worldwide boom for the GameCube?"

Yes, we are all very excited. And thankfully, as the end of the year is fast approaching, the wait for clarification may not be all that long. Stay tuned.

What could it be? Online gameplay? A hovering scooter? New out-of-this-world technology? This is the place to speculate. Only time will tell.

CrOnO_LiNk 10-02-2002 12:35 AM

I have 3 predictions...

1. Earthbound on the cube...

2. Pokemon Online

3. A Nintendo + Square deal... *Crosses fingers*

This is big news for all Nintendo fans. So do you think IGN will announce this once they get ahold of it? Also, when do you think it will be announced...

"The start of a super-big project that will cause a worldwide boom for the GameCube."

Now I am very curious...

A Nintendo + Square deal? Whatcha mean? Like a game developed by Nintendo and Square?

Anyways... I have no clue what it could be... :hmm:

A super-big project that will cause a worldwide boom for gamecube?

I doubt earthbound would do that... pokemon online maybe... although I think normal pokemon would be bigger cuz it would be accessable to more people...

But hmm I dunno what it could be :hmm:

Maybe they gonna announce a realistic looking Zelda game? :sneaky: hah they wouldn't do that when the current Zelda they're working on isn't even out yet...

Uhhh... hmm...

Super big project? Aaahhh what da fudge could it be? You'd think that Zelda, Mario, and Pokemon would be like the biggest things Nintendo has... a Mario game was just released and it wasn't anything super-big, Zelda is already a ways along and is coming out early next year... so I guess the only one left would be pokemon...

Unless it's some kind of cross-developer thing or maybe a Kingdom Hearts-like game starring Nintendo characters ;)

Or maybe there's not really gonna be a big announcement, or maybe they're just hyping the announcement to be something bigger than it will really be... :sneaky:

GameKinG 10-02-2002 01:06 AM

Maybe, Maybe, Maybe....

GameMaster 10-02-2002 01:23 AM

Whatever it is, I bet it's going to change the video game industry forever.

Edit: Okay, so maybe I'm a little caught up in the excitment. Like DeathsHand said, this could just be some little thing being blown out of proportion, like Pikmin 2 or something  However, I don't think it will involve any existing cast of characters, I think it will introduce a brand new cast of characters. Who knows? :D

One Winged Angel 10-02-2002 01:27 AM

Maybe Nintendo will quit making consoles and start making games for X-Box and Ps2...?

While most people here would say something to the effect of "Yeah right  " or "LMAO THAT'LL NEVER HAPPEN OMG HAHAH!"

I'll say it's always a possibility, but I highly doubt it ;)

:sneaky:

And Pikmin 2? That wouldn't be a major thing!? Y'gotta be kidding me! ;)

I know that. I was referring to a Pikmin 2 when I was talking about your idea of something little being blown out of proportion. Then I followed with an unsure face to show how that would be dissappointing.

Super-advanced online play! Play all your AGB games online with up to 16 players! Built-in expansion set for online SSBM multiplayer! A secretely developed shooter with superb multiplayer, 4 players on 1 Cube vs other groups!!

Guess not :(

fingersman 10-02-2002 09:15 AM

THE GC can now play Ps2 games with better graphics. I'm sure this is what Nintendo will announce...of course they will annouce it secretly so as to avoid lawsuits...but we will still know.
Damn Nintendo's smart. ^^

On a serious note I wonder what it could be this time? Is it something really revolutionary?? Or is the magazine just hyped up over nothing?? Could it be a game that redesigns how games are made?? Or is it a Pokemon game where Pikachu gets a new move where he shoots from out his @$$???

Stay tuned to the end of this year to find out. Same website .....same forum.

TAaddadadaddadadada. :D

DarkMaster 10-02-2002 10:43 AM

its obviously a new Indiana Jones game. like think about it, its been done before but it sucked, nintendo is gonna blow us away by making the first good Indiana Jones game. it'll make Harrison proud, and before you know it Indiana will be cool .

jeepnut 10-02-2002 10:59 AM

Well, I guess all we can hope for is that this isn't just a bunch of hype.

BlueFire 10-02-2002 01:18 PM

*Everyone hypes it*

*Nintendo announces another Interaction game*

*everyone.. is.. uh..?*

;)

Nah
I'm excited about this too. It's gotten me kind of eager. I wonder what it is :hmm:

Professor S 10-02-2002 02:48 PM

Uh, that was announced allready a long time ago...so...that aint it...

Im at somewhat of a loss as to what it could be, maybe an announcement of some big game in ultra secracy for a long time, something thats been in the works for like 10 years...something that will make us piss our pants just hearing the name...

Shadow_Link 10-02-2002 03:10 PM

Firstly, there has been a Nintendo-Square deal of sorts, FF:CC...

The only 'other' thing I can 'think' of is, another Final Fantasy for the GC, maybe FF 12. Or Dragon Quest 8, maybe the next installment of MGS, MGS3, a remake of MGS1 with updated graphics, maybe a remake of FF 7... A proper 3D, RPG Pokemon game with online options...

Well yeah... Those are the kind of games that would probably make GC go 'boom' :D...

Whatever it is, it must be related to the money gained from the Rare deal. So they could be buying exclusive content for the GC, or maybe a certain company, maybe capcom...

Then again, best to wait and see what this 'announcement' is to see if it's blown out of proportion or not...

Why do you say that? Even though they made something like 180 Million from selling Rare, wasn't it still not enough to meet their expected profits or something like that?

I dunno, but still :p

Crono 10-02-2002 03:28 PM

heh...I wouldnt be surprised if there wasnt any announcement at all. But I hope its good

Mr.Nobody 10-02-2002 03:49 PM

Maybe Nintendo will be announcing some new RPG's. Square might be making another one, Enix might make an RPG, Golden Sun might be brought to the Gamecube.

Maybe it's a Nintendo buy-out of a company. The one that comes to my mind the most would be Capcom or Sega. Think about it Microsoft gets Rare and it's exclusive gamesand in return Nintendo buys out Sega and screws X-box out of sequals to all of theire sega games.

I hope this isn't the magazine overhyping it though.

When I meant related, I meant to say that they would probably be using the money gained from the Rare deal to help gain support or something like that. I did say that in my previous post, I should have made it a bit more clearer. :D

Sega is way to big for Nintendo to buy. Sega is worth more than Rare and Capcom put together. As for Capcom, they are vulnerable, but I would be very surprised if MS wasn't already all over that at least to try a blocking strategy. MS has a history of doing 2 things to dominate their industries:

1) Creating a superior/competitive product (I don't care how many bugs Windows may have, it can do 10 times as much as Mac)

2) Buying the competition

I would be surprised if MS didn't immediately smell blood when it heard about Capcom's losses. And wouldn't it be funny if MS bough Capcom and then Nintendo wouldn't get Perfect Dark 0 or Resident Evil? I think it would (Yes, that was fanboyish, but in direct response to Mr. Nobody's comaparitive statements about Sega)

Mr.Nobody 10-02-2002 04:15 PM

That would suck.

Although, I don't think it would happen .

Capcom is a Japanese developer who believes more in Japanese company than American company's. They pretty much make Japanese type games. If Microsoft bought them they would have to base their products more on American gamers. I really don't think Capcom would do that.

But, Possibly Nintendo or Sony could buy out Capcom. I personally wouldn't mind if PS2 bought Capcom. Atleast Capcom wouldn't be selling out.

Jason1 10-02-2002 04:36 PM

Maybe the next Sonic Game will be exclusive to Gamecube, or the next couple of sonic games...that would be pretty big...

Nah not really...

At least not nowheres near as big as they're making the announcement sound... ;)

bobcat 10-02-2002 06:11 PM

Hmm.............

*wonders*

I don't.............know.

Joeiss 10-02-2002 07:03 PM

Lol. Just hearing all of these guesses makes me think back to the pre-space world 2K time..... *sniff*... I loved those times.

Yeah, and how overhyped people were with the exagerating of everything *sniff sniff*

FMV quality graphics, returning to the glory days of SNES

good times *sniff sniff*

..... :sneaky:

10-02-2002 07:50 PM

I don't think any of that is big enough. this sounds huge, and people (at least I) am not very impressed by new series anymore. Nintendo is either buying sombody or (and this would be cool) making a harddrive for the cube, those are my guesses.

GameMaster 10-02-2002 07:59 PM

I bet it's a revamped, modernized version of the Virtual Boy virtual headset for Nintendo Gamecube. Allowing one to be in the game. Putting the virtual headset on would submerge you into a 3D world where you are on the quest. Totally separting you from the outside world.

Gamer 10-02-2002 08:17 PM

I think , and heard from a source that Nintendo is buying out a company, the company's name has yet to be named, but that is what happened, they are using the money that they got for rare, and are using towards this new and possibly promising developer.

BlueFire 10-02-2002 08:41 PM

heh...

Maybe we should stop expecting so much so we won't be disappointed.. :p

This very well could be. Nintendo buying out Capcom? Probably not. At first, I was thinking a price drop to $100?? Probably not. I guess i have no idea what it could be.

I don't get it, I don't even see how buying a developer (unless it was a very very popular one, which won't happen... although... rumors that FFXI won't make it to US shores... No details on FFXII yet... what other projects is Square working on for PS2? Nah I doubt it would be Square anyways) would be so AMAZINGLY AMAZING as they make it sound...

I mean mega-ton deal?

For some reason I doubt anything will live up to the hype of being a "mega-ton deal"... :-o

As for price drop to 100 dollars...

a: That wouldn't be worldwide

b: Nintendo said no more price drops soon

c: That wouldn't be mega-tonnish ;)

I mean like a cross developer thing liek you mentioned in your post. Now wouldn't that be great..? Think Kingdom Hearts with Nintendo in it... You go to Mushroom Kingdom and Hyrule. Planet Zebes and Dinosaur Planet. With a few expectations from some Nintendo starts such as Diddy Kong, Ness, Samus, Mario, Link, and the others.

True, that's also one of my predictions. It could happen. Remember Sega..? Anything's possible.

I am 110% sure it's not that. I know, I know... You were being sarcastic. But imagine how much it will suck if that was the major announcement.

Microsoft's deal to buy out Rare was a pretty good deal. With the new funds Nintendo has earned, I am sure it has something to do with this "Big announcement." I highly doubt Capcom would go 2nd party. Although it'll be awesome, I remember reading an email saying "Capcom has no intentions going 2nd party."

I really hope they buy Square... I don't think it can happen but seeing as the whole world has gone insane this year, it's a small possibility.

It might even be a new franchise Nintendo is working on... Probably a new RPG franchise to out-stand Final Fantasy...? Whatever it is, I just hope it's something good.

Blix 10-02-2002 10:49 PM

Muy guesses are:

1)Mario Kart Online. With lots of new cicuits to play in. And up to 12 players can play online.

2) The GameQ is coming states side and will cost the same as a regular cube. This way Nintendo would discontinue the regular model asnd replace it with the Game Qs. Tough I think they would name it the Game Cube anyway. Will most probably not happened but that would be cool tough.

3) An action game developed and Published by Nintendo. That would be surprising.

4) Nintendo buys MS. Tell me that wouldn't be megatonish. :D
