No more PD, Conker, Banjoo Kazooie:(
Thats right, Rare owns those 3 franchises.
Im really the most pissed about the Banjoie Kazooie tho...I was looking forward to the sequal... oh well... http://www.planetgamecube.com/news.c...n=item&id=3446 |
Whatever...Im interested in seeing what Gamecube makes of DK (IGNcube says nintendo is already begining in-house dev. on it, so hopefully no more Banjo/DK64 engine!)
And it still gives no answer for KI :( |
What happened to Kameo? Was that cancelled or is Rare switching is to the XBOX or does Nintendo own it?
*shrugs and walks away* |
Argh please stop it!!! :mad2:
Too bad... :( |

Well I got all 3 consoles. So I'll just wait and c. |
Kameo and Jet Force Gemini are all Rare properties also. I looked it up on a government trademark site.
|
Well, since i heard the news i thought it fit to post my opinion on the matter (although you will have to guesse what i am saying) **** **** mother ******* piece of **** , why the **** did they go and ******* do that! ... sorry bout that, had to release the anger inside.
|
I wanted to see Timba have his own adventure... :(
|
Perfect Dark(and Goldeneye), Banjo, and Conker are the only games from Rare that I cared about on N64...
DK and KI I could care less about. Maybe I'll want a sequal to SFA, but who knows... My chances of getting an Xbox just increased from 100% to 101% |
My wanting of an X-Box has increased from not wanting one at all, to will take one if given for free...
:burger: |
I'd be happy to pay for one and break it. :)

If somebody offered me an XBox for free or won it in a contest, I'd be very VERY happy.
But I dont think Ill buy one until XBox is less then $100, Rare will have neared competetion of their first game by then. |

Rare apparently had Xbox and Ps2 development kits at the end of 2001 also... that just makes the chances even greater. |
Yet there is no telling if this deal happened then or a month ago. There is also no telling that any of those games were in development. And theres ALSO no telling wether they waited for the word that these games are indeed theirs and Nintendo can't find a way to get them.
Though, I dont doubt they have made plans/ideas, maybe started some basic framework. |

I Dont think nintendo WANTED them. not saying they were bad or anything. But you got to remember Nintendo was and still is in Good terms with Rare, its not like they had a big fight and broke up. Nintendo kept the characters THEY made, and the ones they've always had. No way to tell how this went down. last i heard Rare would have to buy many of the characters from nintendo. in which case i also beleive nitnendo would of sold them the ones they should have. Nintendo sold Rare, rare did not leave nintendo. there would be no reason for the two companies to fight over the games. |
True, Rare did say they maintain a good relationship with Nintendo.

I agree... but, I saw no reason for Nintendo to sell Rare. They are just getting rid of talent... then selling the best three series Rare made on N64. Plus, Rare thought up and made all those games by themselves.... meaning that they have the potiental to create future great origanal content.
But oh well, Hopfully Nintendo puts the money towards a good cause, like supporting online play maybe. |
I didn't care for Banjo-Kazooie too much. I though it was just Mario 64 in a costume, figuratively speaking. Not to say Mario 64 was bad it's just I thought Banjo Kazooie lacked originality. :-o

Most of the people that thought of PD and GE are gone from rare to Zoonami and Free Radical.

"Rare" can make a true sequal to Perfect Dark, holding all options and modes from the old game and just adding to it. And it wouldn't be considerd a rip-off. If FRD would have made a game that had all the same modes as Perfect Dark and made a few new upgrades they would be condemed for ripping PD off. That's why they made timesplitters so different. IMO, if perfect Dark just had updated visuals and a faster frame rate on a newer console (and online play!!!) it could kill off most other FPSs on any console. That's what Perfect Dark 2 should be... just add some new features and a new one player game and it's all good. M$ has quite a few first party developers that could council Rare on it's FPS if ther did lose too many developers. Hell, give bungie the rights to perfect dark and it's a killer app just like that. |
I find PD's engine is out-dated. They better find something really good...
|
Quote:
How is it out dated? Example of an Out dated engine: Madden 96... 3 buttons, Tackle/Dive, Turbo, and Pass.... New games have to have more buttons than that because it is required to make the game more realistic. How does Perfect Dark fall into this category? |
Im saing there should be more to the game then traveling through a building completing 2 objectives and getting to the end.
|
I had begun to wonder why no further information on the GBA Banjo title was ever released. I don't mind so much that Rare owns the licenses, as long as they bring a Banjo title to the Xbox.

2. How could there be more to the single player game? Give an example of what a new FPS has in Single player than PD doesn't have and that it honestly needs. Perfect Dark's multi player challenges kill off any FPS, including Timesplitters 1 and 2. |
This sounds an awful lot like sour grapes from Nintendo fans to me. Now that Rare has left, no one cares. When Rare was a Nintendo second party, Nintendo fans always bragged about it. Lets get real.
Rare is one of the best if not the best development house out there. While they may take a long time in between games, their track record of excellence speaks for itself. While some of the games may have not sold well, you can't say they weren't quality titles. Will losing rare hurt Nintendo? Probably, but not that much. I think this deal will have more of a beneficial effect on Microsoft than a detrimental effect on Nintendo. Microsoft needs console pushers, and Rare is one of the few developers that consistently makes them. |
Quote:
The effect on Nintendo (a negative effect I would say...not financially, but they're losing a lot of would-be quality titles) won't be as large as the effect on Microsoft, which will obviously be a positive effect. And GameKinG...you think Perfect Dark is outdated? Compared to what? And even if it was, PD was so ahead of its time when it was released for N64, especially the multplayer options. Nobody has ever seen anything remotely close to that on a console, even to this day. I mean, would you NOT buy a new Perfect Dark game if it came out for the Cube? C'mon...it sounds like you're just a tad bitter ;) |

Well, since Ill have an Xbox by next summer, I'll be glad to give Rare's games a rent. Seeing as Xbox is the most pwerful console, I'd like to see how things turn out, even if I'm not a big fan of them.
|
Lets not forget that Rare has ownership over Jet Force Gemini and Kameo.
|
I don't know about the trademark thing. Rare always had ownership of PD and Conker, so why the news? Who knows how the details went down. It's quite possible Rare kept it, but it's also quite possible that Nintendo took the rights to those.
Anyway, PD I wouldn't worry about. If they make it like the N64 game it'll be a giant flop. FPS on consoles have changed, and while on N64 the game might have been good, it won't be the same this generation. But we're talking Xbox, the name will sell it ;) Conker on N64 sucked. Although rather funny, the game itself sucked ass and was boring as hell. Not to mention poorly designed. And Banjo-Kazooie, I don't know how well this will do on Xbox. Highly likely the anti-kiddy-Nintendo Xbox fanboys will start wacking off over the game, like they do with most exclusives. But aside from Oddworld (****) and Blix (future ****), they don't seem to be into platformers, they just hype whatever's exclusive. And BK even had mixed feelings in the Nintendo world. Some loved it, others hated the scavenger-hunt game. I thought the first one was good, but the second sucked ass. |
Would you like some sugar with those sour grapes?
Rare owns thr trademarks to the following for sure: Conker PD Banjo and Kazooie (Don't care really) Kameo Jet Force Gemini You can research it here: http://tess.uspto.gov Its the governements Trademark research site. An excellent research tool for many things. |
Rare was the ones who thought of Banjo, PD, and Conker... But I personally think Nintendo could make a new franchise that will beat Rare's... I mean, Pikmin and Animal Crossing are great ideas for games.
It does suck to see such a good franchise to go away but that's life. We will see newer franchise that might beat Conker and Banjo in the future. |

I'd rather it stick to it's roots than go off and try to copy Halo or any other FPS. The (non-online) Multi play is better than anything I have seen to date. Plus there is no flaws I see with the gameplay. The one player game can be fixed... Rare will acctually get help from other FPS giants this time (I wouldn't consider Nintendo or Hal any help compared to Bungie). Anything else I can even think of wrong with PD could be solved simply by putting it on a new console... like the AI problems and the visualls. |
And a jump button for added action. Perhaps some bullet time effects.

Breaking off from the current topic of how Rare games on X-Box will be horse poo, and how a rare game that IGN gave a 9.9 sucked ass, Rare has updated their site, and it is now in a flash format with a new movie showing someone who I assume to be joannah Dark (although she dosnet look at all the same), Conker, and Kameo.
Just thought Id point that out... |
Its supposed to be a younger Joanna Dark, hence the name Perfect Dark Zero. It takes place before the first.
