Shine Done!

I have finished SMS. I agree with other sites. The final battle was pretty lame. But at least it was good enough. Now all I need to do is get the rest of the Shines:D But umm....yeah. Has anyone else beaten the US version?

Don't smile. It actually sucks, a lot. Beating the same thing twice for hidden shines, getting 100 coins, and getting all the blue coins sucks major ass.

JamesDark 09-01-2002 07:19 PM

Replay value is meaningless if it consists of doing things that aren't enjoyable. Games shouldn't be a chore.

Jonbo298 09-01-2002 07:27 PM

So....should I keep it or exchange it for another game at EB? I only get 1 exchange so it better be good. Thinking about SMB2 since I don't have a Multi-Player game (even though I have 3 controllers:() Is there anything special I get for getting all 120 shines? If not, then this game is going back for another.

Jason1 09-01-2002 07:35 PM

I actually enjoyed getting all 120 star's in SM64. Why should SMS be any different? BTW, I havent noticed a way to check how many blue coins you have in a certian level: Is there?

And will getting 100 regular coins get you a shine?

gekko 09-01-2002 08:49 PM

Getting 120 in SM64 was enjoyable. Getting any remaining story shines in SMS is enjoyable. The rest of it is not.

Anything special for 120, no. And why is SMS different? Easy enough. Once you have all regular story shines, and shines from the crap in the town, you end up with a couple things left. 2 hidden shines per level, most of which consist of you going back to the old-school style board and playing it again, this time collecting 8 red coins on the level for the next shine. Annoying. Collecting 30 blue coins per level is very annoying. And collecting 100 coins in the levels is not exactly that fun.

GameKinG 09-02-2002 12:03 AM

Oh yeah...well I got 30 shines in 6+ hours...

Is that good?

DamnRaccoons 09-02-2002 10:54 PM

I've had 76 shines for a couple days now, and I'm able to get to the final boss. I don't think I'll play it again until the day before Animal Crossing comes out. I don't know why I plan on doing this, but whatever.

Jason1 09-02-2002 11:18 PM

Well it has to do something for getting all 120 stars...it just has to, why would they cheat us so much? Oh well, I will prolly end up collecting all 120 stars, for lack of anything else good to do. Im up to a good challenge.

60 shine's right now and counting.

etoychest 09-05-2002 05:10 PM

That is exactly where my wife and I are at in the game. We finished the import a while back, and arenow trying to get all the shines and blue coins to truely feel fulfilled. :)

DarkMaster 09-05-2002 06:02 PM

if nothing happens when 120 is collected (besides the satisfaction of getting everything) then I will personaly find shiggy and slap him. getting 120 shines aint not easy!!!!! anyone who has gotten 120 can back me up on that.

etoychest 09-05-2002 06:24 PM

No kidding it isn't easy. Those blue coins alone drive me nuts.

Crash 09-05-2002 07:15 PM

I have 62 stars.... on pace to beat in time for star fox

ITS SHINE'S, NOT STARS!

ahem...im at 73 shine's and counting...some of the last story shine's are really difficult(most consist of collecting the 8 red coins....and what is this about 2 secret shine's in each level?

TheGame 09-06-2002 01:37 AM

I have 39 shines... haven't played the game in 6 days...

Gekko, I think you are right about the Blue coins, they suck, I got 27 for the first level, and have no CLUE where the last three are.

Collecting Gold coins isn't bad, you just have to know the right level, and how to kill enymys to get the most coins out of them. Also, from what I've seen, the hidden missions arent that bad... well, not as bad as blue coins anyway :p

I haven't touched level 2, 3, 5, 6, or 7 even though I got them all unlocked.I like to go one level at a time, but in this game I may make an exception.

there are 8 story shines, 1 secret shine, and 1 100 gold coin shine in each level. the secret shine is basically (from wut i've seen so far) going back to one of the bonus levels in the real levels and beating that over again by collecting 10 red coins in i think 3 minutes.

btw, has anyone beat that bonus pinball sorta level in the hub that u reach by using the boost nozzle to enter under the water bridge? holy **** that is a hard one!!

Jason1 09-06-2002 03:44 PM

Yea, I beat that one. It was pretty tough, took me prolly 30 minutes or so. TIP: Wall climb up the launch area if your going for the coins on the left. And use your hover nozzle.

DarkMaster 09-06-2002 04:12 PM

dont you need the boost nozzle to get into the level?

There's 2 hidden shines per level. And most end up being red coins, but a few are literally hidden. And no, you don't need the boost nozzle to get in there, or even the hover nozzle. You ride the boat and jump. And yes, I've beat it.

how exactly are they hidden? do you just find them somewhere in the level? dont spoil any locations though

Jason1 09-06-2002 05:37 PM

one question...how do you have any clue which story to pick to look for the hidden shine's in a level? I mean, we have to have some clue as to what to do for the hidden shine...dont we?

They're referred to as hidden shines because they're not story shines, so you can't just select a story and accomplish the objective like most, you gotta find them. And yes, they're in the level. It's not like they're hidden behind a tree and you gotta find it though.

And generally. Wait, in every level where you enter the old school stage and lose your pack, go back in. If there's 2 levels, that will get you both. If there's only 1, then no, you won't get a clue where to get it. I'm guessing the villagers tell you or something like that, where it's hinted at. But remember, I'm playing the Japanese version, so I don't know how that all works out. But I do know where they are.

Jonbo298 09-18-2002 06:01 PM

Over the weekend, I had a resurgance in playing SMS. I went from 69 to 94! The main thing left is the Blue Coins. Damn blue coins. meh, I will find them eventually. But ummm....yeah. 94:unsure:

BreakABone 09-18-2002 06:49 PM

Um, I guess I might as well reply. I beat the game like last week, felt the final boss was a joke, got AC and lived happily ever after.. so far...

Jonbo298 09-19-2002 12:31 PM

Still waiting to get AC. Need Monies.
*Edit* Oh yeah, got another Shine. Up to 95.

DarkMaster 09-19-2002 03:07 PM

i just got 120 shines, nothing happened so i got pissed off and bought Kingdom hearts
