E3 2013
So, what are you looking forward to?
For me it's this: - Nintendo Direct on the 11th - Seeing how M$ will try to save the XB1's reputation Nintendo already revealed so much in the last months, that it makes you wonder what they saved for E3. We know the following is coming: -3D Mario U -SSB4 -Mario Kart 8 Then we still have the following previously shown games: - TWW HD - Yarn Yoshi - X (Monolith's new game) - Shin Megami Tensai X Fire Emblem - Bayonetta 2 - Wii Fit U - Sonic Lost World - some multiplatform games - some Ninty games that should have been out months ago I bet Nintendo still has a few surprises. My guess: - Wii Sports U - Retro Studio's game (new IP?) - F-Zero (maybe co-developed by Shin'en?) - Wii/Mario Party U - Miyamoto's new IP Now that I look at my own list, that's actually a huge amount of Wii U games. It's almost worth buying a U just for this. Anyway, I don't expect them to show anything more than a teaser of Zelda U. That would steal the thunder of TWWHD and 'ALttP2'. |
Re: E3 2013
I'm primarily looking forward to all the Nintendo Direct stuff. I will be eagerly watching their YouTube channel.
Other than that, I want to see what kind of drama will unfold surrounding the other two. I don't expect many awesome games to be shown for the new systems, other than Wii U, since it's the start of the generation. |
Re: E3 2013
I'm looking forward to the Big 3's conference
While MS is on EXTREMELY shaky grounds, it does seem like they are opening the check book for games. I expect we'll see a lot of stuff there I just hope they focus on variety. Already sad that we've had announcements of more Kinect music games (Fantasia) and shooters (Titanfalls). Which are two things I don't feel the Xbox was lacking. Sony is always up in the air for me. They tend to show the most game. A ton of variety. But never know how to present their information well. It's such a chore to get through their events at time. Nintendo... oh Nintendo. I honestly don't know what I expect from you these days. Really you're output is always fine for me. I need some evidence that not all 3rd parties have left you for dead. Because you don't release games often enough to be the sole contributor |
Re: E3 2013
GTAV, I guess.
Anything new from Valve. It looks like the new consoles are going to be fairly terrible for at least the first year. |
Re: E3 2013
I am of course excited to see what they are doing with the New 3d Mario. Im really hoping they show whatever Retro is working on.
And if Half Life 3 made any sort of an appearance, it would be pretty amazing. |
Re: E3 2013
Mostly looking forward to FFXIV: A Realm Reborn and GTAV as far as games... I also want to see how Microsoft twists their issues in the press conference, and how safe Sony tries to play it on the issues.
I have no interest in anything Nintendo or EA has to show. NBA 2k14 for next Gen consoles may be interesting though. |
Re: E3 2013
GT is set to kick off in 2 minutes with some Vita news
Then top of the hour with Rare's game |

Re: E3 2013
There at the end I half expected that Sony guy to pull out the severed head of some Microsoft employee. The grin on that guys face when they brought up the used games and no connection require slide was hilarious.

Re: E3 2013
I think Sony just won everything ever.
|
Re: E3 2013
Well Sony bought their A game

PlayStation 3
PlayStation 4 Price 400 bucks No DRM stuff Multi behind a paywall

Re: E3 2013
Need to add Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3 for Ps4, and they announced XIV will be 'exclusive' to Ps3 and 4... I'm assuming they're just saying it won't be on home consoles since it's already on PC.
|
Re: E3 2013
I'm curious if KH3 and FFXV will be exclusive to PS3. I feel like no, since they didn't say that explicitly.
Regardless, I'm more sold on PS4 than ever. Killzone, Driveclup, Infamous, and The Order all look like really great launch titles. Also, I really want to buy a Vita. The only thing holding me back is that it uses those stupid expensive proprietary memory cards instead of regular SD cards. I won't buy one until they fix that. |
Re: E3 2013
Nintendo making me so happy right now.

And I was hoping this show would remedy it in some fashion They have a good line-up But it also kind of represents the system for the next year or so.. and there isn't enough 3rd party titles there to kind of... fill in the huge voids between releases. |

But even the Wii got some cool and novel 3rd party titles Boom Blox, No More Heroes, Deadly Creature, de Blob, etc And it doesn't even look like getting those But we'll see |
Re: E3 2013
Actually never played any of those. :p
Wii U has some stuff from Platinum Games though - Bayonetta 2 & Wonderful 101. Also have a Splinter Cell, Raymond Legends, Xenoblade sequel, and several eshop games. |

And most of those sans the Ubisoft stuff... are all first party The eShop has potential, but right now it's still warming up |
Re: E3 2013
BaB, those games you mentioned were all released pretty late in the Wii's life. Certainly not within the first year.
I think 3rd parties were pretty skeptical about the U so far. And the slow start of the console didn't improve things. Now with all these great Nintendo games announced, I'm sure the console will pick up sales. And developers are going to stream back to Nintendo. |
Re: E3 2013
So, it is clear the Xbox One is on a collision course with failure. I wonder if the Xbox division has become too bureaucratized within the Microsoft hierarchy to such a point in which most major decisions are now made by business professionals and not videogame professionals. Seems a somewhat likely cause given their strategy and subsequent reaction.
On the whole, this next generation just seems uninspired and rather awful. |
Re: E3 2013
XBone seems terrible compared to the PS4
Combine and I have been having some truly great and epic rounds of battlefield 3, and it looks like 4 should be great. That being said, I think after 2 Xbox's it might be time for a change....... |
Re: E3 2013
So im too lazy to really look to be positive, but im assuming that Retro is working on the new Donkey Kong for Wii U?
I have to say this is SLIGHTLY disappointing. Im the biggest fan ever of what they did with Donkey Kong Country Returns, but I really wanted to see them back at work at a new Metroid or possibly a new IP. That being said I know this new Donkey Kong will be amazing. Im also SLIGHTLY disappointed that the new Mario game is more like Mario 3d Land than Mario Galaxy. I LOVED Mario 3d Land but I think it's better suited for the 3DS. It basically looked exactly like 3dLand only in HD. I would have rather seen them back to Galaxy only on a bigger scale. But that's my 2cents. Sony basically killed it with the used games announcement and the fact that you wont have to be online to play offline games. That's just stupidity on Microsofts part. Plus its $100 cheaper. Only thing I didn't care for is that PS4 online multiplayer will require a PS+ membership. I'll get over that one because PS+ has really been offering a lot of perks lately (so many so ive been close to actually joining myself). Plus, it sounds like you WILL NOT have to be a PS+ member if you just want to stream Netflix and this like that. And it sounds like you will have to subscribe to Xbox Live to do basically anything on the Xbox One. |
Re: E3 2013
Plus Bill Gates will watch you through your Kinect while you sleep.

I will say
This was my absolute favorite image of all of e3 ![]() |

Re: E3 2013
If the Xbox One fails it will have nothing to do with DRM, internet connectivity, or "spy cameras". Outside of gamers and geeks, no one cares about any of that. Outside of the used game issue all the complaining is a self-contained echo chamber of nerd rage. If MS can convince families that the XBox One is a replacement for the DVR, remote control, Blue Ray player, streaming media player, etc. it will succeed.

Re: E3 2013

This is why I think it will fail. #1: Higher price #2: Bad publicity from DRM #3: Bad publicity from home security issues (aka kinnect) #4: Forced internet connection (Believe it or not, a lot of people have systems without a broadband connection) #5: Too much focus on non gaming features. As Sony pointed out, it's been tried before, and at the end of the day it's the games that mainly move the system. I don't think it's a lock to fail... but it doesn't look good right now. Most of that stuff MS could turn back on before launch too, but you know they won't. |
Re: E3 2013
The price point is a pretty big deal for non-core gamers.
|
Re: E3 2013
Meh, I don't see the Xbox One failing miserably, and here is why: Just like Nintendo, Microsoft has enough fans that for whatever reason LOVE their Xboxes, and wont buy anything else. There are people I work with that have been raving about the Xbox and when I mention some of these issues they either didn't even know about them or just shrug them off with something like "But the Xbox will have Halo" or some crap like that. Honestly I really do hope it fails because I think it pushes the medium in the wrong direction.
Also, I still believe that in the poorer communities of the world there are a LOT of people that don't have internet, and that could hurt its sales. |
Re: E3 2013
The only thing I wonder about this grave Microsoft is digging for themselves is whether it will be big enough to hold all the unsold Xbox One consoles.
Seriously, the backlash has been universally negative. I think even if MS did a complete 180, the damage may be irreversible. The thing about the camera having to be connected all the time is more than just creepy, it's clumsy. Dealing with the Wii sensor bar pisses me off enough as it is. MS is the anti-Apple when it comes to the value of simplicity. |

In my experience though, the negativity is already seeping through. It may not be a big issue for people. But when folks hear buzz words like they won't "own" their games or they are just "renting" property... it does start to catch on Hell not even trying to defend MS' policy but had to clarify it for several of my friends already because they only know what you can't do with the system I also think the price is a huge barrier to entry even if it replaces all of those devices. |
