Playstation Network Compromised
I know a handful of you on the site own PS3, so this is a PSA, but also an update.
For the past week or so, PSN has been down. And Sony has been pretty mum on the subject. I've enjoyed it because nothing like seeing internet fans snap! But they posted this on the site today http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/...-and-qriocity/ And knowing that you had a potential breach of personal information for over a week and not informing your consumers is just terrible business IMO. But won't condemn them, just wanting people who use PSN to know so that when the servers do come back online, they could change their information. And perhaps double check your credit card statements. |
Re: Playstation Network Compromised
Thanks for the heads up. I had heard PSN was down, but hadn't heard of the security breach. I took their advice and put a fraud alert with the credit unions.

Re: Playstation Network Compromised
Pretty freaky stuff.
|
Re: Playstation Network Compromised
They have said they only found out about the personal information yesterday, and released the information today.

There's been a lot of anecdotal reports floating around that people who use PSN have had compromised credit cards during the past week. Whether it is coincidence, straight up BS, or the truth...it still does not change the fact that the personal information should have been better protected. ![]() We're sorry. |
Re: Playstation Network Compromised
I'm just so glad that I never used my credit card on their PSN Store. I was THIS close to buying the Scott Pilgrim game on PSN. Now I'll just buy those cards at GameStop and use them. And I'm Glad that they are making improvements to their service.

Re: Playstation Network Compromised
As far as a reason for unavailability, sabotage and theft is a pretty decent reason.
It's things like this that make me not trust merging my technology with my ability to control my money. |
Re: Playstation Network Compromised
PSN... Can we pull over and get some dinner? I at least like to be wined and dined before you FUCK ME!

Seems like Sony can't catch a break during this whole ordeal

Re: Playstation Network Compromised
Conspiracy Theory:
Microsoft is responsible. It could happen. :p |
Re: Playstation Network Compromised
I don't think Sony is handling this well at all.

Someone sabotaged them. They clearly need to make improvements to security on all fronts after this, and that will obviously take some time. It won't just be a 2 day layover and then a "Well, that was neat" sort of speech. |

May 31st.
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/116/1166810p1.html Now I really think this is taking too long. When the system comes back up online it better be flawless and extremely monitored. There's rumors Anonymous will try to hack it once again as soon as it comes back up. |

And non-update update that it will be a few more days. |
Re: Playstation Network Compromised
I just want to be able to play Portal on my PC, the way it was meant to be played. Not to mention I cant play co-op whatsoever. There isnt a workaround for the PC version that comes with the PS3 version being tied to the PSN account, is there?

Re: Playstation Network Compromised
Update! New Firmware 3.61. Change of password mandatory and information on how the process of bringing the PS3 back up will be done.
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/14/pl...-includes-onl/ *Second update* Check your state. If it's green then it has PSN. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/...on-begins-now/ |
Re: Playstation Network Compromised
So it's up. The PSN store is till not up, I think everything else is. So I haven't been able to get every single freebie that will be mine with that plus month. I'm getting eager to get my hard-waited freebies. XD
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/...on-begins-now/ |
Re: Playstation Network Compromised
What type of freebies?
Also, I'm totally okay with the fact they were only down for a month. As long as they keep the online to being free. I think it would be a little selfish and spoiled for anyone to bitch and complain towards Sony about not having their online up fast enough when they're not paying for it. I'd gladly take 11 free months of online, and not have it for 1 month every year rather than paying to be able to play every month. |
Re: Playstation Network Compromised
Someone said it best in joystiq.com: "I don't feel entitled to anything from Sony but I think it'd be nice if they gave us something for our patience" more or less. And some of the things (I think PS3 Themes) said they were free for the PSN Plus subscribers. I'll see all the things that are free for plus users and grab them. The fact that the store is the only thing still left down makes me think they're checking all that out to not give away a horrendous amount of freebies, which is fine with me.

Honestly, most people, are pissed about the security breach, which got picked up by a ton of major news networks and sites. This is a way to get people back to using their service and serves as a free ad for PSN + |

Re: Playstation Network Compromised
Is the PS Store up yet so we can claim these games? It is not up for me. I just wanted to know if it'll go up in some areas first or if it's still not restored.
|
Re: Playstation Network Compromised
I imagine the PS Store is still down while they figure the logistics of everyone downloading these games. I also imagine their trying to ascertain what will be available during this free PS+ period.
|
Re: Playstation Network Compromised
Just as an update, back, all features.
And free games are now available. |

Re: Playstation Network Compromised
I downloaded Dead Nation and Infamous. If anyone wants to play online, let me know.

Re: Playstation Network Compromised
What are the best 2 games to get? I am currently downloading Infamous right now, cant decide which of the others to get. I have never played any of them, even little big planet.

I like how another million users were hacked on the Sony Picture's website. By a basic SQL injection.
I wouldn't trust Sony with anything important...like my password. |
