Castlevania: Lords of Shadow thread

This is my most anticipated game this year, and has been since it was shown at E3 2009. Reboot of the series with a new storyline (still a Belmont character in the lead though), and Kojima has been involved in the development.

Release date is set for October 19th, 2010.

Cheesy voice-over by Patrick Stewart. :p

Some parts look cool, but the hack&slashing looks boring.

Meh looks like Castlevania: Lord of Quicktime Events.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow thread

Amazon is offering the same pre-order deal on this that they did on Reach: pre-order and you get a $20 coupon towards a video game related purchase.

So I'm going to use my Reach coupon towards this, then my Lords of Shadow coupon towards the new 360 controller. win-win-win

Very long trailer, all in game footage.

This game is looking insanely good.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow thread

So basically Hideo Kojima wanted to do medieval once and he decided to use the Castlevania name?
Don't get me wrong, it looks good. But more like MGS with monsters.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow thread

How is this remotely like Metal Gear Solid?

Also Kojima didn't make this game, he was an adviser.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow thread

All blabla and not much gameplay. If the trailer is anything to judge by.

Here;s an extended look at the game.

That actually looks pretty good. :) Although they stole half of the puzzles from Zelda. ;) And the platforming from Prince of Persia. That should actually be a good combo!

Edit: Only 20 hours long? :(

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow thread

What's wrong with 20 hours of gameplay? Sounds like plenty to me.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow thread

Yeah apparently it is. EuroGamer says it might even be too long (because they reuse a lot of concepts just to fill the time).
I'm just always comparing it to the Zelda standard of 40+ hours. :) But when I think of it, I've played lots of good games that are shorter.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow thread

Well crap.

At some point the release date got changed from what I thought it was (October 19th) to October 5th.

I only pre-ordered it last night, and missed the $20 special offer from Amazon.

*bangs head on desk*

I'm not sure if I want to watch that game play video or not...I don't want to spoil much more than I already know about the game.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow thread

So, this game is great. One of the most amazing looking games I have ever played, and the combat is great once you get used to noticing enemy attacks and dodging them - makes things very fluid.

My only complaint so far is that this game does one thing that some games do that really annoys me: too many paths to take. If I'm exploring a dungeon or area and I come across two paths, I like for one to be relatively short and lead to a dead end with an item or something.

In this game that's not the case, there are a lot of branching paths which are long and intricate, and makes it easy to miss stuff. Fortunately the game lets you replay any level any time you want, so it's easy to go back and run through the level again and choose different paths.

Also, having Patrick Stewart read to you during loading screens is awesome. Every game should do this.

I actually believe those are branching paths and you are supposed to pick one and stay on it. At least what got from the GT review.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow thread

Yeah, that's what I've been doing, I haven't tried to explore every path, I just pick one and go.

But you need to collect these gem things that can boost your overall health. So far I've missed 3, and I'm pretty sure they are on the other paths, so I need to go back and do those.

Edit: I actually do think it's a pretty cool concept, having multiple paths to take, but my perfect collection syndrome does not enjoy it.

I know exactly what you mean. I always need to know what's behind the corner.

Played the demo to this and I think this game is basically amazing. It also has the best graphics I've seen this gen other than God of War 3 hands down.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow thread

If anyone has been looking to pick this game up, I was going to purchase this for my brother for his birthday, and I did a quick search online to see if any of the stores were offering any deals (I was doubtful, as the game has only been out a week) but much to my surprise, K-Mart has the game on sale for both Consoles, for $39.99. This is both online and in store, but its only through October 30th.

Really a great deal for a great game that has only been out a week. Also of note, My K-Mart still had it listed at 59.99, but I just asked an employee and they scanned it and it came up at the sale price.
