BioShock 3 Revealed
I believe we have friends of this BioShock series, who knows anymore
http://www.whatisicarus.com/index.php This time it takes place in a floating city. |
Re: BioShock 3 Revealed
I would be skeptical is it wasn't Irrational making the game. There are a ton of opportunities to expand game play by placing the game in a sky city.

Re: BioShock 3 Revealed
I still haven't played the second one because I don't think it can live up to the first, and here they are already announcing a third.

Re: BioShock 3 Revealed
I for one am very excited. I thought it was funny timing because I started BioShock 2 last night and was just lamenting how it didn't pull me in like the original... but this announcement has reinvigorated my interest.
I love the fact that Infinite is essentially a new IP disguised as a sequel. While BS2 feels pretty solid so far, I just didn't feel a return trip to Rapture was...necessary (and i know im not alone). I feel just as mystified by the Infinite trailer as I did playing the original BioShock's demo, which is what originally made me interested. Can't wait to see what Irrational does with this...oh wait, I'm gonna have to cuz its not due for TWO YEARS. seriously though? its already had 3 years dev time, we are talking an Alan Wake timeline now... |
Bioshock Infinite
I was rather disappointed by Bioshock 2, still havnt finished it, but this looks real nice. Apparently this is a prequel, set in 1912. I wonder if Andrew Ryan will be in it at all. edit: Didnt see that there was already a thread about this. Oh well, mine is better anyways. |
Re: Bioshock Infinite
Yeah yours is better, it has a video! Not that I watched it...
|
Re: Bioshock Infinite
BaB's had a video too, it just wasnt embedded.
|
Re: Bioshock Infinite
I like both threads, but I can actually watch this video. The other kept messing up on my shitty laptop.
Wow, super-swisher. I'm excited. |
Re: Bioshock Infinite
And I have the power to merge em.
Sadly, my thread stuff will be on top since posted first, but hey his had the official name of the game so there's that. |
Re: Bioshock Infinite
I really like the look of the game, its on my radar for next year now

Re: Bioshock Infinite
I thought it was going to be the same essential game, until I saw the developers talking about it, and they said (something like) "Just because It's called 'Bioshock', that doesn't mean it will have anything to do in any way with the previous games' technology or storyline."
That sold me on the idea. Because I really really liked Bioshock, because it was new. Bioshock 2 (which I'm still playing through) just seems like the same game, because it basically is (In the sense of universe, tech, characters, etc). So I'm glad they're changing it up. |
Re: Bioshock Infinite
I'm curious about what the political overtones might be. I loved how they wrote the first Bioshock story. It was more philosophical than political, and they treated all characters and ideas involved fairly, I thought. Looking at the images from this game, there is obviously a lot of red, white and blue flying around, which might lead one to believe that the overtones might be critical of America, which would be a shame. Not out of any sense of nationalism on my part, but only because its been done to death and I think they could do better.
The time period and propaganda throw a lot of possibilities in the mix, though, including the early 20th century progressive movement that highlighted some less than moral dalliances with eugenics (hence the "Do Not Burden Columbia with your Chaff" poster). That would very much fall in line with the philosophical plot themes established in the first Bioshock, and avoid any terribly overt political statements (aside from the obvious immigration debates that continue). |

The first game play footage from Bioshock Infinite. |
Re: Bioshock Infinite
Hah, they had low frame rate problems on the demo PC?? :D
|
Re: Bioshock Infinite
Well, according to Game Informer, the world of Infinite will be about a harshly nationalistic floating American city that is intended to show world dominance and the people hate immigrants.
I'm glad they avoided any overtly political statements... Honestly, this disappoints me greatly. Not because I'm American, but because this type of thing has been done to death, and the original game was so artful in its philosophical storytelling. This just seems cheap and uninspired. |

I mean, if you remove the whole "How USA is today" thing from it, it makes for a pretty good horror scenario. A floating city [that also happens to be a floating warship disguised as a city] broken off from the rest of the world because it's too politically extreme, now the citizens of that city are completely weary of outsiders because of previous campaigns [and you happen to be an outsider in the game] and are at a constant civil war with eachother over power, corruption, and ideology. And I mean, hell - the idea of the game is still relatively similar. A failed utopia that is not on solid land is now over-run with corruption, super powers, freaks, and giant scary monsters. |

I will say that the floating city is very reminiscent of Teddy R's "Great White Fleet", but it remains to be seen how nuanced the story will be. All I can judge right now is what they have revealed, and at this point it feels uninspired, but perhaps they'll expand it a bit. If Irrational has earned anything, it is the benefit of the doubt. |
Re: Bioshock Infinite
They could have at least altered the flag so comparing it to the stars n stripes would be stretching. If the citizens and ideologies are so nationalistic, why can't the world less reflect that of 1912 America. I mean shit, it's a floating city.
I agree with Typhoid in that it looks really cool as is, but Prof's got a point, having the glaringly obvious at my eyeballs from start to finish won't exactly help the experience. The only way I see this not deterring from the enjoyment is if they manage to turn the game's attention continually away from what appears to be the beating of a decomposing horse. It's a floating city. I just bought a phenom X4 965be and a crosshair IV to mb up the goodness. Now I just gotta source parts at a bargain scouring leisure. Since I overspent on the cpu/mb I'm going to shovel less for a gpu, but it needs to be one that gets it on in crossfire. I'm mostly looking at radeons for the obvious reasons. But if anyone here knows differently about the g line I'd love for your opinion. Right now it's between the 4890 and the 5770. I haven't found a cdn distributor who has the 4890's in stock yet. I got the MB because I'm hoping AM3 boards will be compatible with the upcoming integrated chips that both are going to release Q2 '11 At 230 cdn the crosshair board was worth it to me. Also the X4 965be is killer, easy to oc at 4ghz/core, something at 180 didn't seem so bad. newegg.ca was much cheaper than tigerdirect. Also I'm a not-know about good cooling setups. I'm going with fans but it will have to chill like an Edmonton January. So if you know of any exceptional cases at decent prices or specific fan brands, feel free to pitch. Re: Bioshock Infinite
Yeah, don't get me wrong - I can see where you're coming from Strangie.
But I read the setting on wikipedia the other night, and not one part of me was currently thinking about "This is like today!", rather "this is a cool concept for a horror game." If the Setting and Plot have already been posted, my bad. Quote:
