Re: This or That: Star Wars Series
You can't really beat the original trilogy...it really does have that "classic" feel to it, no questions asked.
Still, Episode 3 holds a huge place in my heart for the hype leading up to it, and the presentation of how they played out Anakin's tragic fall. I say 'presentation' because they left a hell of a lot out of his turn that's found in the Episode 3 book. Still, the music and screenplay were great. But the biggest "oh SHIT" moments both belong to Episode 2. Yoda pulling out his lightsaber, and Mace killing Jango. Still, there's no Han Salo equivalent in the newer trilogy, and the "chemistry" between Hayden and Natalie was laughable. Mostly because of the horrible writing for Anakin. You forgot:
![]() :p I loathed Jar Jar with a fiery passion. I havnt seen the IV, V or VI in a very long time, so ill have to go with III as my favorite and I as my least favorite. |
Re: This or That: Star Wars Series
Gotta say Empire is my favorite. Least favorite is II.
I haven't seen the ORIGINAL original trilogy in years cause I lost the VHS tapes I used to have in a move or something. I need to find that immediately. Also there's like a 50 gig download somewhere of all 6 movies in HD from some British broadcast. Totally getting on that. |

First off I love all Star Wars. I'll clear that up right away. I'm a big Star Wars fan. That said, I like episodes I-III a lot better than IV, V and VI. The only good thing about the original trilogy was Harrison Ford. And his character was only good because George Lucas gave him the right to edit his own lines on a "Han Solo wouldn't say this" basis. The writing in the original trilogy is pretty terrible. Anyone who doesn't agree is relying too heavy on the nostalgia factor. The "Noo" that Hamill gives when he finds out Darth Vader is his father is laughably painful to watch. But my friend made a good point by saying "Maybe bad no's run in the family." Personally I'm also a big fan of the Clone Wars TV show, despite being CGI. It's well done, and it explains a lot about what happened in the big gap. ANd fills the void of Star Wars. I'd say my favourite was easily III, and it has my favourite fight scene, which is the lava lightsaber battle. My favourite part is when Darth Vader throws Palpatine over the edge, because it shuts up everyone who thinks Luke is the chosen one. It's Darth Vader. Always has been. I don't really have a least favourite. Probably one of the original trilogy ones, but I don't dislike any of the movies. |
Re: This or That: Star Wars Series
I'm also a big Star Wars fan, but to be honest, the writing is horrendous in the whole series, not just the original Trilogy.
My favorite part is probably the final fight scene between Obi Wan, Jin, and Maul in Episode I. |

Re: This or That: Star Wars Series
Really, people like the 3 new movies? Hayden Christensen played the world's most annoying douche bag, and the writing was -AWFUL-. Sure, the writing in the original trilogy was campy, but the 3 new movies took bad writing to a whole new level.
Seriously, the only movie with shittier lines than the new Star Wars films is Batman & Robin. And what is this?: And this: This pretty much how I feel about the 3 new films: Yeah. The 3 new movies killed everything there was to love about the original 3 Star Wars films. The fun, campy, fantasy adventure has been reduced to a boring love story with one of the world's most annoying actors. And CGI overkill. Light saber battles in the original movie where like the pistol duals in the old Western films; they were used sparingly and in a climatic way. Look, I enjoyed the 3 new Star Wars films, they were pretty to look at and if you turned off your brain they were enjoyable. But they pale in comparison to the original films. |
Re: This or That: Star Wars Series
I totally agree with KG, george just sucked all the magic out. Too much green screen, and he created the worst character ever to be in a movie. The dreaded Jar Jar.

Re: This or That: Star Wars Series
Return of the Jedi has gotten most of my love so far. Lush forest, awesome green lightsaber, wraps up the series with a good story and nice characters.
I should watch Episode III again, I liked it but I've only seen it 3 times. Least favorite is of course Episode I. Terrible Anikan "AAARE YOOOOOOOOOOOOOU AN AAAAAAAAAAANGELLLLL??????????" Skywalker, cold atmosphere. Favorite fight... either Darth Maul vs Obi-Wan (& Qui-Gon), or Anakin vs Obi-Wan. But those fan-made fights are even better of course. Favorite character is probably Luke Skywalker. Eager and good-hearted kid who ends up as a hero. Favorite scene... not really sure, I'd have to watch them again. Some that come to mind: "No, I am your father", the space battle of episode VI... There was a time where I liked the SW games better than the movies. But lately all these games have been disappointing. |
Re: This or That: Star Wars Series
Does Knights of the Old Republic count?
Knights of the Old Republic is basically a movie and it was awesome |

Cam, you're the only person I've ever heard talk smack about KoTor 2.

Interesting.... the consensus ive heard is that its not too great. I personally encountered numerous bugs, and have read about a bunch of other ones. I think its more to do with the first one being so good, and then the new developer (Obsidian) making the second one not even close to the standards of KoToR. |
Re: This or That: Star Wars Series
I like the story and basis of the second one much better than the first.
It's by far the best interpretation of what the force is, and how it works etc. We'll settle this with pointy hot sticks, Cam. |
Re: This or That: Star Wars Series
LMAO in KG's first youtube video @ 2:04 - "PSP?!?!?!?"
I can't believe I didn't notice that.... I've loved star wars since I was a kid. No doubt my favourite has to be Ep. IV. Its the old story about some kid being thrusted into a life he's in no way ready for. And even though some of the lines are corny and some of the effects are cheesy, it made space seem like it was the new wild west. Outlaws, and all. Second has to be Ep. VI, RotJ just had some classic moments, like Han saving Lando when he was half blind or Ewoks pWning Empire AT-STs. I guess it might just be nostalgia, but truth be told I was something like 13 when Ep. I came out, I really didn't know what to expect, sure I'd watched the original 3 before, but I didn't really walk into the theater with a plethora of movie critical knowledge, more just going in because I loved sci fi in general. That original feeling that space was a whole new world waiting to be explored seems lost in the new trilogy. In fact its only in games that I still find that feeling as far as Star Wars go. With a series like star wars, however, one more question needs to be asked BaB, whats your favorite game(s), lord knows theres been enough. The ones that really caught my imagination has to have been: Shadows of the Empire for N64 Dark Forces (and all of its sequels, including Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight 2, and Jedi Acadamy) and of course, a game I spent at least 100 hours with: Tie Fighter...might still be the best space sim yet IMO EDIT: of course, and KoToR I and II...i don't know how i forgot those.... |

Just to be fair, Obsidian was really rushed by LucasArts to release the game by the holiday season. They had planned for a lot more few more worlds and a better explained ending. I blame LucasArts for KotORII, not Obsidian. |
