NBA Jam: Boom Shaka Laka

Ahh one of my favorite games growing up (Also a fan of the spiritual successors NBA Streets)

I love the graphics, and the facial expressions.

I however, want to know if it offers more for full retail price.

I loved the old NBA Jam. Sooo much.
I still remember every pitchy tone in the announcers voice when you'd miss a 3 pointer, or shoot from "doooowntoooown."
Occasionally I still miss getting told I am on fire.

It even made ESPN!
This will be good or bad for EA.
So many old-school fans.

Oh you know how it goes, people get hyped up for a revival of one of their favorite games, and then it either doesn't live up to what they expected or isn't as good as they remembered.

The people who are pumped on the revival will be excited the remake exists at all.

Also: "It will be good or bad for EA" is a hilarious statement.
What else could it be?

Ooooh yes.

I wonder if they'll want to win bonus points and make a turbo edition too.

EDIT: Meant tournament edition

NBA Jam was the reason I hooked my Genesis up last year and man oh man was it worth it.

That game was the shit and the only basketball game worth playing.

I'm not digging the new announcer. Probably because I remember the old one so fondly.

Re: NBA Jam: Boom Shaka Laka

Quote:

- classic mode: play all 30 NBA teams (with three current stars per team), including 2 on 2 boss battles against NBA legends (Magic Johnson, Larry Bird)
- Remix Tour, double the length of classic mode, boss battles against other characters, big changes to rules/modes
- counter added to the shove move
- the player with the ball can now roll away from the defende
- triangles that indicate when players are off-screen, and change size depending on how far away they are
- players run faster when off-screen
- reflections off the stadium TVs on the court surfaces
- crowd still features low frame animations, done on purpose
- each player has a collection of 2d faces: two dunk faces, a happy face, a negative face, plain front/back/side shots, blurred face shots for transitions
- lots of unlockable content and cheats
- big head mode is available as soon as you finish the tutorial
- over 100 unlockable characters, teams, privileges and bonuses
- semi-achievement system called 'Jam Challenges'
- complete challenges to unlock goodies
- 4 difficulty levels
- 10 to 20 hours gameplay
- Remix Tour lasting up to 35 hours
- huge boss battles where you have to recognize patterns
- likens the boss battles to Punch-Out!!
- Remix Tour might have different modes than 2-on-2, different camera angles, half-court games, elements that pop up on the court
- modes that cater to heavy dunkers, shooters, all-around players, and a mode built around the 'defining moments' of NBA Jam
- legal issues aren't stopping the devs from including all sorts of special players. EA is going through the trouble to make these deals happen
- hints at classic NBA players returning
- 60 FPS
- ANT animation system used in all big EA Sports games
- going with the 2d heads and stiff crowd animations save processing power, and allow for other bells and whistles
- pick-up and play nature
- focused on Wii, but could come to other platforms
- looking into online play, but not confirmed
- pouring over 1,500 fan submissions
New details.

Re: NBA Jam: Boom Shaka Laka

I was reading on the original NBA Jam right now, and I totally forgot that the Wizards used to be the "Washington Bullets".

And this is just classic:

Played it today. This game kicks ass. Just as fun as it ever was, and in full 60fps.
